Tea, Taxes, and The American Revolution: Crash Course World History #28
In which John Green teaches you about the American Revolution and the American Revolutionary War, which it turns out were two different things. Find out how the tax bill from the Seven Years' War fomented an uprising, how the Enlightenment influenced the Founding Fathers, and who were the winners and losers in this conflict. (hint: many of the people living in the Colonies ended up losers) The Revolution purportedly brought freedom and equality to the Thirteen Colonies, but they weren't equally distributed. Also, you'll learn about America's love affair with commemorative ceramics and what happens when rich ...

Who Won the American Revolution?: Crash Course US History #7
In which John Green teaches you about the American Revolution. And the Revolutionary War. I know we've labored the point here, but they weren't the same thing. In any case, John will teach you about the major battles of the war, and discuss the strategies on both sides. Everyone is familiar with how this war played out for the Founding Fathers; they got to become the Founding Fathers. But what did the revolution mean to the common people in the United States? For white, property-owning males, it was pretty sweet. They gained rights that were a definite step up from being British Colonial citizens. For everyone else, the short-term gains were not clear. This video presents the
American Revolutionary War - a conflict between Britain and its colonies, which later became an international war.
Before the flare-up of the American Revolutionary War, there had been growing tensions and conflicts between the British crown and its thirteen colonies. To raise the revenue from colonies, the mother country took many measures, namely the Sugar Act of 1764, the Stamp Act of 1765, the Townshend Acts of 1767 and the Tea Act of 1773. These acts provoked great anger among many colonists, and consequently, a rally was held behind the slogan “no taxation without representation”.
Tensions and skirmishes ran high through many events, namely the Boston Massacre, the Burning of the Gaspee in Rhode Island, and especially the 1773 Boston Tea Party which provoked a crackdown by the British Parliament, including closing Boston harbor and passing some acts to restore order in Massachusetts.
In response to this, in September 1774, many colonial leaders including George Washington of Virginia, John and Samuel Adams of Massachusetts, Patrick Henry of Virginia and John Jay of New York gathered in Philadelphia to discuss the colonies’ opposition to British rule, but this First Continental Congress’s attempt to demand independence from Britain did not go so far.
Tensions flared up on the night of April 18, 1775, when British troops marched to Concord, Massachusetts to seize an arms cache. It is the “shot heard ‘round the world” in the Battles of Lexington and Concord on the next day that kicked off the American Revolutionary War.
In June 1775, Continental Army, with General George Washington as its commander, was formed in the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia. On June 17, American troops were defeated by the British at the Battle of Bunker Hill in Massachusetts. In late winter, the balance of the fight was shifted when British artillery was captured at Fort Ticonderoga in New York.
In March 1776, the British led by General William Howe retreated to Canada to prepare for a major invasion of New York. On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted a Declaration of Independence written mainly by Thomas Jefferson. That same month, a large British fleet was sent to New York with the aim to crush the rebellion. Two months later, routed by Howe’s Redcoats on Long Island, Washington’s troops were forced to evacuate from New York City. However, the surprise attack in Trenton and the battle near Princeton, New Jersey after that, marked another small victory for the colonials and revived the flagging hopes of the rebels.
In July, in an attempt to retake Fort Ticonderoga, General John Burgoyne’s troops suffered a devastating loss to the Americans while Howe troops moved southward from New York to confront Washington’s army near the Chesapeake Bay. On September 25, the British entered Philadelphia. On October 4, Washington struck back at Germantown (Maryland) but was compelled to withdraw to winter quarters at Valley Forge.
In the North, the story was different. After being defeated by American forces in the first battle at Freeman’s Farm (New York) and the second one at Bemis Heights (New York), General Burgoyne and his men were forced to surrender on October 17.
Following the American victory in Battle of Saratoga (New York), France and America signed treaties of alliance on February 6, 1778, in which France provided America with troops and warships.
On June 28, 1778, when withdrawing from Philadelphia, Henry Clinton, who replaced Howe to take over British forces, and his troops were attacked by Washington’s army near Monmouth, New Jersey. This battle ended in a draw, letting Clinton’s army get to New York safely. As the joint attack against British in late July failed, France and America besieged Newport, Rhode Island. The war was locked in a stalemate phase in the North.
In the South, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina were occupied by the British in early 1779 and May 1780 respectively. Later, on October 7, American troops led by Isaac Shelby and John Sevier defeated Major Patrick Ferguson and one-third of General Cornwallis's army at King's Mountain.
Following the Battle of Yorktown and Cornwallis’s surrender, the British still had its men stationed in some areas until the removal of their troops from Charleston and Savannah in late 1782.
The war officially ended with the Treaty of Paris on September 3, 1783, by which Britain recognized American independence, marking the end of the colonial era in the US.

In which John Green teaches you about the American Revolution and the
American Revolutionary War, which it turns out were two different things. John goes over the issues and events that precipitated rebellion in Britain's American colonies, and he also explores the ideas that laid the groundwork for the new American democracy. Also, you'll learn about America's love affair with commemorative ceramics and what happens when rich white guys take the reins from rich white guys and put together a society of, by, and for rich white guys.

Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on the early modern history continues with a video on the American Revolution - the War of American Independence in which we cover all battles from the Americas to Caribbean and from Europe to India. In the video we discuss the main reasons why the Thirteen Colonies rebelled against the British crown, first battles at Lexington and Concord, and then near Boston at Bunker Hill. In 1775 and 1776 the war continued with the siege of Boston, American Declaration of Independence, Fall of New York, Battle of Long Island, Ten Crucial Days, the battle of Trenton and the battle of Princeton, while in 1777 the tide turned with the battles of Brandywine, Germantown and Saratoga. France and Spain joined the war around this time, putting even more pressure on the British, who now had to defend their European and Caribbean holdings, too. Despite the fact that the battles of Monmouth Courthouse and Rhode Island were tactically inconclusive, the situation for the Britain continued to deteriorate. However, situation in the South, where there were more Loyalists and the British forces were led by Cornwallis, was better for Britain, which showed itself during the Battles of Savannah, Charleston, Waxhaws, Camden and Kings Mountain. However, the British situation continued to deteriorate leading to the famous battle of Yorktown, where the continental troops were led by George Washington. In the aftermath of the victory at Yorktown, the war continued, but the Americans now had the upper hand and were able to negotiate from the position of power, gaining recognition and becoming independent. We also cover the battle of the Sullivan island, Canadian campaign, including the battle of Quebec and Valcour island, Mohawk expedition, siege of Gibraltar, Second Anglo-Mysore War, Gulf Coast Campaign and Mobile campaign, Caribbean campaign including the battle of St. Kitts and Pensacola campaign, Siege of Negapatam and the Treaty of Mangalore.
The video was made by Antoni Kamerans, while the script was researched and written by David Ernenwein. This video was narrated by Officially Devin (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU0-VII-V376zFxiRGMeZGg & https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC79s7EdN9uXX77-Ly2HmEjQ). Machinima by Malay Archer.

Women's rights were unaffected, and slaves remained in slavery. As for poor white folks, they remained poor and disenfranchised. The reality is it took a long time for this whole democracy thing to get underway, and the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness weren't immediately available to all these newly minted Americans.

Lo-fi garage-psychedelia from Robert Schneider (Apples in stereo), Craig Morris (Terrapin Pond / Ideal Free Distribution), and friends. Slabs of fuzz guitar and troglodyte drumming, soaked in Mellotron seas and static: Thee American Revolution pursues a heavy psych-pop agenda. The American Revolution - Love has got me down (1968)

The band was made up by Richard Barcelona (guitar, vocals), Daniel Derda (drums), Ebbie Haddad (keyboards, vocals), and John Keith (bass, vocals). The albums was produced by Harley Hatcher and is quite heavily orchestrated with vocal harmonies. Hatcher was an exploitation film composer and a member of Mike Curb’s gang. The American Revolution-Show Me How To Cry
Awesome tune from a rare and underpublicized LP, circa 1968, on the Flick-Disc label, a division of MGM. Mike Curb and Michael Lloyd had some hand in the production. Although there's never been a legit CD reissue of this album, it's miraculously available on iTunes!
I don't know much about this band, other than what I've put in the description. Anyone have any info?

The Patriot - Battle of Camden Movie Clip (HD)
On the foggy morning of August 16, 1780, American and British armies clashed in the pine woods north of Camden, South Carolina, in one of the most important and influential battles of the Revolutionary War. An American victory would quash British plans to subjugate the Southern colonies and virtually guarantee the independence of the fledgling United States. A victory for the British would pave the way for the conquest of North Carolina and Virginia. After nearly an hour of frenzied, bloody combat, the British army emerged victorious, and American morale plummeted to its lowest point of the war. The rout at Camden was not a total loss, however, as Patriot forces eventually came away with a renewed determination to resist British advances, and the lessons from the defeat were applied to sec...

The American Revolution was a colonial revolt that took place between 1765 and 1783. The American Patriots in the Thirteen Colonies won independence from Great Britain, becoming the United States of America. They defeated the British in the
American Revolutionary War in alliance with France and others.
Members of American colonial society argued the position of "no taxation without representation", starting with the Stamp Act Congress in 1765. They rejected the authority of the British Parliament to tax them because they lacked members in that governing body. Protests steadily escalated to the Boston Massacre in 1770 and the burning of the Gaspee in Rhode Island in 1772, followed by the Boston Tea Party in December 1773, during which Patriots destroyed a consignment of taxed tea. The British responded by closing Boston Harbor, then followed with a series of legislative acts which effectively rescinded Massachusetts Bay Colony's rights of self-government and caused the other colonies to rally behind Massachusetts. In late 1774, the Patriots set up their own alternative government to better coordinate their resistance efforts against Great Britain; other colonists preferred to remain aligned to the Crown and were known as Loyalists or Tories.
Tensions erupted into battle between Patriot militia and British regulars when the king's army attempted to capture and destroy Colonial military supplies at Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. The conflict then developed into a global war, during which the Patriots (and later their French, Spanish, and Dutch allies) fought the British and Loyalists in what became known as the American Revolutionary War (1775–83). Each of the thirteen colonies formed a Provincial Congress that assumed power from the old colonial governments and suppressed Loyalism, and from there they built a Continental Army under the leadership of General George Washington. The Continental Congress determined King George's rule to be tyrannical and infringing the colonists' rights as Englishmen, and they declared the colonies free and independent states on July 2, 1776. The Patriot leadership professed the political philosophies of liberalism and republicanism to reject monarchy and aristocracy, and they proclaimed that all men are created equal.
The Continental Army forced the redcoats out of Boston in March 1776, but that summer the British captured and held New York City and its strategic harbor for the duration of the war. The Royal Navy blockaded ports and captured other cities for brief periods, but they failed to defeat Washington's forces. The Patriots unsuccessfully attempted to invade Canada during the winter of 1775–76, but successfully captured a British army at the Battle of Saratoga in October 1777, and the French entered the war as allies of the United States as a result. The war later turned to the American South where the British under the leadership of Charles Cornwallis captured an army at Charleston, South Carolina in early 1780 but failed to enlist enough volunteers from Loyalist civilians to take effective control of the territory while fighting partisans. A combined American–French force captured a second British army at Yorktown in the fall of 1781, effectively ending the war in North America. The Treaty of Paris, signed September 3, 1783, formally ended the conflict, confirming the new nation's complete separation from the British Empire. The United States took possession of nearly all the territory east of the Mississippi River and south of the Great Lakes, with the British retaining control of Canada and Spain taking Florida.
Among the significant results of the revolution was the creation of a new Constitution of the United States. The new Constitution established a relatively strong federal national government that included an executive, a national judiciary, and a bicameral Congress that represented states in the Senate and the population in the House of Representatives. The Revolution also resulted in the migration of around 60,000 Loyalists to other British territories, especially British North America (Canada).

The rout at Camden was not a total loss, however, as Patriot forces eventually came away with a renewed determination to resist British advances, and the lessons from the defeat were applied to secure future victories that finally allowed the Patriots to triumph in the South. This engaging new book presents the Battle of Camden as never before: through the eyes and words of American and British participants and contemporary observers. The events leading up to the conflict, the combat itself and the consequences of Camden are all described in striking detail. The cunning strategies of both American Major General Horatio Gates and British Lieutenant General Lord Cornwallis are revealed, as are a number of battlefield reports from soldiers on both sides. In addition to these compelling firsthand accounts, The Battle of Camden includes analysis of the battle and its effects in America and Europe from George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Lord George Germain. With this landmark text, author and historian Jim Piecuch offers a comprehensive consideration of a vital Revolutionary battle and its effects on the war for American independence.

"La Fayette" is a 1961 French-Italian biographical film directed by Jean Dréville and starring Pascale Audret, Jack Hawkins and Orson Welles. The film depicts the life of Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, in particular his role in the American War of Independence.
Siege of Yorktown, (September 28–October 19, 1781), joint Franco-American land and sea campaign that entrapped a major British army on a peninsula at Yorktown, Virginia, and forced its surrender. The siege virtually ended military operations in the American Revolution.
