The naranjilla plant is attractive, with large elongated heart- or oval-shaped leaves up to 45cm in length. The leaves and stems of the plant are covered in short purple hairs. Naranjilla are delicate plants and must be protected from strong winds and direct sunlight. They grow best in partial shade.
The fruit has a citrus flavour, sometimes described as a combination of rhubarb and lime. The juice of the naranjilla is green and is often used as a juice or for a drink called lulada.

Naranjilla or Lulo: Eva's Exotic Fruit Reviews 1
I love fresh fruits and vegetables and am excited to share any new ones I find during my travels. In this video, I review my experience of a fruit called Naranjilla in Ecuador or Lulo in Colombia. Solanum quitoense is the species name. It's high in Vitamin C & from the nightshade family. I learned how to make the REAL version of this drink at this awesome Airbnb experience: https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/3386292
Here is a recipe for the genuine drink:

NARANJILLA TASTE TEST
Our first Naranjilla finally ripened! Our growing season here is shorter than required for this peculiar plant, so I had to lift one out of the garden and pot it up for the winter. It found a nice home in our bathroom garden and has been hanging out there for a couple months now.
Once the first one finally got bright orange and a little squishy, we knew that it was time for our first bite of a Naranjilla. In this video, Papa Pepper and the four oldest Little Peppers enjoy a taste and tell you what we think.
