Motherwell is the headquarters for both North Lanarkshire Council, which is one of Scotland's most populous local authority areas, and of Strathclyde Police "N" division. These organisations cover an overall population of 327,000 people (59,000 in Motherwell and Wishaw) throughout the 183 square miles (470km2) of North Lanarkshire.
History
The main Roman road through central Scotland ran along Motherwell’s side of the River Clyde, crossing the South Calder Water on the north west side of today’s town. At this crossing a fort and bath house were erected, but the Roman presence in Scotland did not last much later than this. There were definitely people living in the area from an early point. The name comes from an ancient religious well, the Mother's Well, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The site of this well is now marked by a plaque on Ladywell Road. The name "Moderwelt" appears on a map of Lanarkshire made by Timothy Pont some time between 1583 and 1611 and printed in the Netherlands in around 1652.
From 1918 the constituency consisted of "The burghs of Motherwell and Wishaw, together with the part of the Middle Ward County District which is contained within the extraburghal portion of the parish of Dalziel."
APOEL FC (Greek:ΑΠΟΕΛ; short for Αθλητικός Ποδοσφαιρικός Όμιλος Ελλήνων Λευκωσίας, Athletikos Podosferikos Omilos Ellinon Lefkosias, "Athletic Football Club of Greeks of Nicosia") is a professional footballclub based in Nicosia, Cyprus. APOEL is the most popular football team in Cyprus and they are the most successful with an overall tally of 24 championships, 21 cups and 13 super cups.
In 1985 the Company started managing third party funds. In 1989 the Company established a partnership with Germany’s HypoVereinsbank
who acquired a 50% stake in the business; this stake was increased to 90% in 1998. In 2000 Eureko purchased HypoVereinsbank’s 90% stake and in 2001 went on to secure 100% control and consolidate their asset management activities with those of the Company under the F&C brand.
In 2004 ISIS Asset Management merged with F&C Management Limited to form F&C Asset Management and the combined business was then listed on the London Stock Exchange.
In 2008 Friends Provident announced its intention to divest its shareholding in F&C Asset Management. This was completed in 2009.
On 7 May 2014, F&C Asset Management plc was acquired by Bank of Montreal through its wholly owned subsidiary, BMO Global Asset Management (Europe) Limited.

Now More Than Ever: 2021/22 Motherwell FC season tickets
At the start of the 2020/21 season, we pledged to season ticket holders that they would see - in person - 19 Premiership matches at Fir Park in return for their purchase.
At that time, we were confident that supporters would be back home at some stage in the campaign, even as early as the autumn.
Now, as we know, that never happened, and we have played every match behind closed doors.
Despite that, our commitment remains unchanged. If you bought a season ticket for 2020/21, we will automatically give you a season ticket for 2021/22 for free.
You do not need to spend any more money. We will honour our pledge and send you a new season card soon.
If you didn’t buy a season ticket in 2020/21 but want to now, we’d be delighted to welcome you back for the new campaign. Season tickets are no...

We Own the Future (Motherwell FC Fan Ownership BBC Documentary)
A film looking at Motherwell FC as the first top flight community owned club in the UK.
The film looks at a football club doing things differently, fighting against the current climate of wealthy investors and making the bold jump of placing the fans and the local community as owners of their own club, through the supporter body 'The Well Society' who have a majority shareholding.
It aims to ask the question of what a modern football club is there for, who it belongs to and what purpose it can serve in a time of social and economic turbulence in towns and cities across the UK.

Wins over Dundee United and Kilmarnock kept the positive mood going around ML1, and also marked the return to prominence of Christopher Long.
Sidelined with a freak injury in recent weeks, the forward has been reunited with his number nine jersey and returned in kind with the decisive goal against Dundee United.
Perceived as a moody and sullen character, we speak to the Liverpudlian to get under the skin of what he's really like, and what drives him to succeed.
And with fans still locked out of Fir Park, we've been making improvements to the stadium.
Chief executive Alan Burrows takes us around the ongoing renovations in our John Hunter Stand, in preparation for the return of supporters.
