KIIS 1065 (official callsign 2WFM) is a commercial FM radio station in Sydney, Australia and is owned by the Australian Radio Network (ARN). The station was formerly known as 2UW, broadcasting on 1107 kHz AM, before converting to FM in 1994.
History
2UW
The station, now known as KIIS, began life as 2UW, commencing transmission on 13 February 1925 on 1125 kHz on the AM band. On 1 September 1935, the frequency changed to 1110kHz and in 1978 changed again to 1107kHz. 2UW was the home of many live radio plays and had studios for live programmes at Market Street in Sydney, near the intersection with George Street.
The management of 2UW moved the station to 365 Kent Street Sydney although for a time they retained the Market Street live audience theatre that had been used for live plays. One of its early breakfast presenters, Russ Walkington, had a character known as Gerald the Grasshopper who pre-dated Sammy Sparrow who appeared on 2UE with Gary O'Callaghan.
From the early 1960s, 2UW moved away from its older audience and actively pursued the youth market through the introduction of a Top 40 format in response to the music coming from the United States and Great Britain and to provide a vehicle for the up-and-coming Australian local rock scene.
A DJ mix or DJ mixset is a sequence of musical tracks typically mixed together to appear as one continuous track. DJ mixes are usually performed using a DJ mixer and multiple sounds sources, such as turntables, CD players, digital audio players or computer sound cards, sometimes with the addition of samplers and effects units, although it's possible to create one using sound editing software.
DJ mixing is significantly different from live sound mixing. Remix services were offered beginning in the late 1970s in order to provide music which was more easily beatmixed by DJs for the dancefloor. One of the earliest DJs to refine their mixing skills was DJ Kool Herc.Francis Grasso was the first DJ to use headphones and a basic form of mixing at the New York nightclub Sanctuary. Upon its release in 2000, Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto Presents: Another World became the biggest selling dj mix album in the US.
Music
A DJ mix is often put together with music from genres that fit into the more general term electronic dance music. Other genres mixed by DJ includes hip hop, breakbeat and disco. Four on the floor disco beats can be used to create seamless mixes so as to keep dancers locked to the dancefloor. Two of main characteristics of music used in dj mixes is a dominant bassline and repetitive beats. Music mixed by djs usually has a tempo which ranges from 120 bpm up to 160 bpm.
Audio mixing is the process by which multiple sounds are combined into one or more channels. In the process, the source signals' level, frequency content, dynamics, and panoramic position are manipulated and effects such as reverb may be added. This practical, aesthetic, or otherwise creative treatment is done in order to produce a mix that is more appealing to listeners.
Before the introduction of multitrack recording, all the sounds and effects that were to be part of a recording were mixed together at one time during a live performance. If the mix wasn't satisfactory, or if one musician made a mistake, the selection had to be performed over until the desired balance and performance was obtained. However, with the introduction of multitrack recording, the production phase of a modern recording has radically changed into one that generally involves three stages: recording, overdubbing, and mixdown.

I got an outside fee for this read as the fact it was being played elsewhere, in this case MIX 106.5 FM formerly 2UW 1107 AM now KIIS FM 106.5.
As it goes, I had a Hi Fi VCR to record off air, the Sony SLV-X810 and a Rotel RT 950 BX stereo tuner using an indoor aerial.
CBD reception from Crown St was pretty good but at the time, MIX had just begun broadcasting on 106.5 FM on April 30th 1994 after securing one of two bids for an FM licence conversion from AM.
At the time, I and others thought the on air processing on MIX 106.5 FM still had the old 2UW 1107 AM sound but on FM and for a long time had a very n...

At the time, I and others thought the on air processing on MIX 106.5 FM still had the old 2UW 1107 AM sound but on FM and for a long time had a very narrow stereo sound stage and almost over-modulated compression setting which on FM sounded a bit boomy and treated the dynamics with a crushing thud.
That's my subjective opinion on that, anyway it's ancient history.
I had to record a few hours worth and just kept the song outro and ad break up to the news for 9 & 10 am, news being cut short on the 10 am version, so this is all that exists from 3 hours recording.
My commercial read to me now sounds pleasant but a bit flat in expression ?
Trevor Sinclair was the only announcer to be kept from 2UW when he joined the station in 1979, through the transitions of 1107 2UW (1979), The New 2UW (1981), Magic 11 (1984), the return of 1107 2UW (1984), Classic Hits 2UW (1986), and the conversion to the original MIX 106.5 FM (post 1994)
I met Trevor Sinclair once in 1980 when he was at 2UW in Kent St Sydney, he did some 2SER FM promo's for their 1st Birthday radiothon and I was in the studio when recording, I think at the time he had just come back from Fiji or was due to go and my memory is a bit dim on this but I remember something about Fiji.

News reader Toni Matthews I'm sure I met at 2KA in early 1989, Toni is delightful as a person and a seasoned news presenter.
Toni Matthews now works for 702 ABC Radio in Sydney as a journalist/newsreader/presenter and the few times I've heard her on summer national news bulletins, it's always a delight to hear her voice as she lends credibility to news but also just a hint of personal warmth with immense charm.
