The Early Cape houses of Wells, Maine, are a collection of 18th-century Cape style houses in or near the town of Wells, Maine. The town has a concentration of these houses that is unusual in the state of Maine. In the 1970s the town conducted a detailed street survey, in which 19 historically significant 18th-century Cape houses were identified either in or just outside the municipal boundaries. These buildings were subsequently listed on the National Register of Historic Places in December 1979.
Background
The town of Wells, Maine is located in York County on the coast of southern Maine, It has a land area of about 50 square miles (130km2), with a coastline that consists almost entirely of barrier beach. This lack of significant harbor facilities would play a role in the town's development. Wells was settled in the 1640s, and was from its earliest days a primarily agrarian settlement, while neighboring York and Kennebunkport developed economically around fishing, lumber, and seagoing merchant activity. The entire southern Maine area, with only a small population, was devastated in repeated conflicts between the British colonies of New England and New France, and was effectively abandoned after repeated raids involving the French and their Native American allies in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. As a result, there are very few buildings in the region that predate 1710.
Wells is a town in York County, Maine, United States. Founded in 1643, it is the third-oldest town in Maine. The population in 2010 was 9,589. Wells Beach is a popular summer destination.
History
The AbenakiIndians called the area Webhannet, meaning "at the clear stream", a reference to the Webhannet River. Edmund Littlefield, an immigrant from the wool regions of Titchfield, England, was known as "The Father of Wells," for constructing the first gristmill and later a woolen mill in the new land at Wells on the Webhannet River, where a monument to Littlefield commemorates his contribution to the area, today. In 1622, the Plymouth Company in England awarded to Sir Ferdinando Gorges, Lord Proprietor of Maine, territory which included the Plantation of Wells. His young cousin, Thomas Gorges, acting as deputy and agent, in 1641 granted to Rev. John Wheelwright and other settlers from Exeter, New Hampshire the right to populate the land from northeast of the Ogunquit River to southwest of the Kennebunk River. Following the death of the elder Gorges in 1647, the Massachusetts Bay Colony laid claim to Maine. In 1653, Wells was incorporated, the third town in Maine to do so, and named after Wells, England, a small cathedral city in the county of Somerset. It then included Kennebunk, set off the year Maine became a state in 1820, and Ogunquit, designated a village within Wells by the legislature in 1913, then set off in 1980.
Mill House, also known as Chinn's Mill and Hatcher's Mill, is a historic grist mill complex located near Middleburg, Fauquier County, Virginia. All of the buildings in the complex are constructed of stone laid in a random-rubble pattern and some are of mixed stone and frame construction. They represent a late 18th- to early 19th-century rural Virginia grist mill operation, that was later transformed during the early-20th-century into a "hunt country" estate by John Shaffer Phipps. In addition to the mill itself, the complex includes the miller's house, the cooper's house and shop, the mill owner's house, and what was likely a dairy/smokehouse.
Mill House is a historic home located at Milford, Kent County, Delaware. The house is located across from the Parson Thorne Mansion. It is a late-18th century, two-story, three bay, brick dwelling with a frame rear wing. It has a 2/3 Georgian side hall plan. It was owned by Delaware Governor Peter F. Causey (1801-1871) and was a rental property for the family.
Wells Crater is an impact crater in the Eridania quadrangle on Mars at 60.2°S and 237.9°W, and it is 103.0km in diameter. Its name was approved in 1973 by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature (WGPSN), and it was named after H. G. Wells.
Wells is a surname of English origin, but is occasionally used as a given name too. It derives from occupation, location, and topography. The occupational name (i.e. "Wellman") derives from the person responsible for a village's spring. The locational name (i.e. "Well") derives from the pre-7th century waella ("spring"). The topographical name (i.e. "Attewell") derives from living near a spring. The oldest public record is found in 1177 in the county of Norfolk. Variations of Wells include Well, Welman, Welles, Wellman and Wellsman. At the time of the British Census of 1881Wells Surname at Forebears, its relative frequency was highest in Berkshire (3.2 times the British average), followed by Leicestershire, Oxfordshire, Kinross-shire, Huntingdonshire, Kent, Sussex, Lincolnshire, Dumfriesshire and Bedfordshire. Wells is on the coast with a few miles of beautiful sandy beaches. The town is large covering 73.61 square miles and has a population of over 11,000 people. In the summer, the population explodes to an estimated 40,000+ people. Re-digging the Wells of Revival Full sermon by Apostle Samuel Raboteng
𝐑𝐄-𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐕𝐀𝐋
📖Redigging the walls of revival mean taking the vertical journey to the throne. Horizontal journey is a journey of exploits but vertical journey is a journey of intimacy.
📖When we talk about vertical journey we are talking about a journey of darkness to light, a journey to revisit who you are in Jesus.
📖For your horizontal journey to have meaning in eternity, you must have backup through vertical journey. Horizontal journey is a journey where light is following darkness.
📖In the vertical migration, when you are reading the Bible you will find the author standing next to you, explaining what you are reading and help you understand it. When there is no man to Re-dig the walls, they will continue to be closed.
📖One of the signs of the coming of Jesus is the...

If you're thinking about moving to Wells Maine, this video is going to cover the pros and cons or good and bad of living in Wells Maine. Wells is on the coast with a few miles of beautiful sandy beaches. The town is large covering 73.61 square miles and has a population of over 11,000 people. In the summer, the population explodes to an estimated 40,000+ people. Because of this, the traffic along route 1 (down town) is very congested and can leave you sitting in traffic longer than you'd like. I recommend doing your shopping after 9PM and planning your route before you leave as getting on rt 1 could leave you frustrated. We can help you learn the backroads to avoid traffic. Crossing rt 1 to take side roads is usually not a problem. The town has dozens of great restaurants but, many close down for the winter. Make sure you call ahead as even in the off season, restaurants are busy in this town.
Airports: 40 minutes to Portland (PWM) and Portsmouth (PSM). 90 minutes to Boston (BOS) is best to use in the winter. This town is only 20 minutes to Sanford Airport if you have your own plane.
Being a coastal town means the prices of homes for sale tend to be a bit higher than the inland towns. There are still some great opportunities for affordable homes and close to the beach investments. Give us a call, shoot us a text, send and email or schedule a zoom. Whether you are moving in 9 days or 90 days, wee can help you make that smooth move to southern Maine.

📖One of the signs of the coming of Jesus is the latter revival that will hit the church, you will no longer say you are of a particular church but you will say you are of Jesus Christ and the church will unite.
📖When God has opened a realm, it is accessible to man, Irregardless of who you are; as long as you available and ready to be used by God, but only chosen men are graced to open such realms.

The Wells Beach Maine January 13 2024 storm brought some of the worst devestation our generation has ever seen on Wells Beach or more specifically Crescent beach which can be found off of Webhannet Drive. The tide was up over 12 feet and the on short winds were strong. As a result, the beaches in Wells saw very high surf with waves that slammed into sea walls and did tremendous damage to many homes. This video shows footage of the storm at it's peak and the majority of the video is on the aftermath. The focus was on the destruction along Webhannet Drive Wells Maine in the Fisherman's cove and Crescent Beach area. The 01-13-2024 Storm Wells Maine along Webhannet Drive Wells Maine is some of the worst flooding the town of Wells Maine has ever seen.

If you're thinking about moving to Wells Maine, this video is going to cover the pros and cons or good and bad of living in Wells Maine. If you have any questions or need specifics about something in the video, give us a call, shoot us a text, send an email, or schedule a Zoom call. We should be able to help you and we'd love to help you make a smooth move to Southern Maine!
