Origin and History of the Malaysians
What is the origin and history of the ethnic Malays and the Malay nation? The Malays are one of the most interesting people groups of the Far East, who have interacted with many different historical empires throughout their reign as the arbiters of trans-oceanic trade for thousands of years. Throughout this time, the Malays have influenced and been influenced by many different groups.
Today we will discuss some of the history of the Malays ad how they evolved from the Melayu kingdom into the modern nation of Malaysia we see today, which arguably is still as important as ever in terms of regional and global markets. Thanks for watching!

The Iban trackers were men brought in from a loyal tribe from the Sarawak province on the island of Borneo - the Iban people. Throughout the Malayan Emergency, the Ibans were the eyes and ears of the British forces in the jungle, their tracking skills being invaluable in helping to hunt down the insurgents. However, apart from being good trackers, the Ibans were better known for another one of their habits, that of headhunting.

A Malay Kampong in Katanning, Western Australia
Who can resist a traditional wedding feast? Not us.
Journey inland beyond the popular coastline of Western Australia and you might find Katanning – a small town three-hours' drive from Perth and home to a significant Malay population. The 400-people strong community still continues Malay traditions, including some unique to Christmas and Cocos island where most came from.
If you’re lucky, you might even chance upon a truly sedap feast prepared by makciks in the town!

We've met several locals to get a better understanding of who the Malaysians are. Geneticist clarifies role of Proto-Malays in human origin
Leading Oxford University geneticist Dr Stephen Oppenheimer is taken aback by how politically charged the research into the origins of human population is in Malaysia.
Most recently, strong reaction had arisen over media coverage of a conference on the origins of the Malay race, which marked the Orang Asli - the Senoi, Semang and the Proto-Malays - as torchbearers of the modern human race.
NONEClarifying this finding in an interview last week, Oppenheimer said the Orang Asli, particularly the Semang and the Proto-Malays are direct descendants of the first humans who stepped foot in South-East Asia (then Sunda), and are "ancestral" for east Asia and the Americas.
