At the time of release the group was very popular and was being heavily merchandised, with everything from pillowcases, to marbles, to dolls, to a Saturday morning cartoon with their name and likeness. Step by Step went to number one on both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart, with the lead-off title track single topping the charts simultaneously and selling nearly three million copies, making it their highest selling single.
Another top ten single, "Tonight", followed, as the group embarked on their most ambitious world tour to date. After having earned success with Hangin' Tough, the group took a more active role creatively on this album, co-writing and producing several of its tracks. They even started playing instruments on most of their songs.
By the end of 1990, in spite of the album having gone multi-platinum, a public backlash against the group occurred, as is evident with the third and last single, "Let's Try It Again," failing to crack the Billboard Hot 100 top fifty and the album receiving much lower certifications than Hangin' Tough in the United States.
Written by Maurice Starr, it was a huge worldwide hit, selling over 10 million copies worldwide, making it one of the biggest selling singles of 1990. It was the first single from the album of the same name, released on May 10, 1990. The song spent three weeks at #1 on the U.S.Billboard Hot 100 and was eventually certified platinum; it also spent two weeks at #1 in the Canadian Singles Chart, in total "Step by Step" spent five weeks at #1 in the North American charts. It also peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart and was also a top 10 hit in the Australian, French, German, Irish and Norwegian charts. "Step by Step" was initially recorded by one of Maurice Starr's other groups, The Superiors and was released as a single in 1987.
Besom is a dialectal or historical word for what is now known as a broom, a household implement used for sweeping.
The term "besom" is now mostly reserved for a "traditionally constructed" broom, made from a bundle of twigs tied to a stouter pole.
The twigs used could be broom (i.e. Genista, whence the modern name "broom" for the tool), heather or similar. The song "Buy Broom Buzzems" from Northern England refers to both types of twig. From the phrase broom besom the more common broom comes.
Description
As a result of its construction around a central pole, the brush of the besom is rounded instead of flat. The bristles can be made of many materials including, but not limited to straw, herbs, or twigs. Traditionally the handle is of hazel wood and the head is of birch twigs. Modern construction uses bindings of wire and string (instead of the traditional split withy) and the head is secured by a steel nail instead of a wooden dowel.
In Wicca
A besom is a flight tool used in Wicca. A traditional Wiccan besom is a hawthorn stave handle with bristles made from birch twigs. These twigs are tied on using thin pieces of willow wood. It is used to cleanse the ritual area before circle casting. As a tool, the besom is usually thought of as masculine in nature due to its phallic shape and symbolism. However the besom's components are of both masculine and feminine orientation. The handle, an ash stave, is masculine in nature while the birch used for the bristles is thought of as feminine in nature. The besom is thought to be involved with fairies.
Step is the third full-length album by South KoreanK-popgirl groupKara. It was released on September 6, 2011. A special limited edition was available for pre-order starting August 25, 2011.
Background and recording
On August 4, 2011, the group confirmed that they will be releasing their third official album on mid-September and will resume their activities in South Korea for the first time in over six months. It was also reported by industry representatives that the group has been recording songs for the album during their spare time while they were busy promoting their fourth Japanese single, "Go Go Summer!". DSP Media stated that the group are in the process of reviewing which songs to be used as the lead song from the album.
Concept and artwork
Regarding the concept of the album, the group was also faced with a choice between maintaining their usual bright, cute and youthful concept or transforming into something new.
Composition
The limited edition of the album contains a bonus track called "With My Heart (Dear Kamilia)" which is the Korean version of "Ima, Okuritai 「Arigatou」" from their third Japanese single.
Step (stylized STEP) is the fifth full-length studio album by Japanese singer-lyricist Meg, released on June 18, 2008 in Japan by Universal Music Japan. This is Meg's highest selling album in her career as well as the second electropop album to reach the top ten in the Oricon charts since Perfume's Game (released two months prior), debuted and peaked at number 8 in the Oricon charts, selling 15,801 units on its first week of release and a total of 29,048 units in Japan.
Tracklist
All lyrics written by Meg; all songs composed, arranged and produced by Yasutaka Nakata.
"Step" is a pop song by the Japanese duo and idol unitClariS, written by Kz. It was released as the unit's tenth single on April 16, 2014 by SME Records. The song was used as the second opening theme to the 2014 anime series Nisekoi. A music video was produced for "Step", directed by Jungo. The single peaked at No. 3 on Japan's weekly Oricon singles chart.
Composition
"Step" is a synthpop song with instrumentation from a synthesizer. It is set in common time and moves at a tempo of 146 beats per minute in the E minorkey throughout the song. The introduction starts with the synthesized music to transition into the first verse, followed by the chorus. After a short bridge, this pattern is repeated for the second verse and chorus featuring the same music with different lyrics. A break is used to transition into the third verse, immediately followed by the chorus used as the outro to close the song.
Release and reception
"Step" was released in a regular edition and two limited editions on April 16, 2014 as a CD by SME Records in Japan. One of the limited edition versions was packaged with Nisekoi artwork and also contained a short version of "Step" instead of its instrumental version. The other limited edition version came bundled with a DVD containing the music video for "Step". The song peaked at No. 3 on Japan's weekly Oricon singles chart and charted for 8 weeks. "Step" debuted and peaked on the BillboardJapan Hot 100 at No. 5.

Making a Besom Witches Broom, Stuart King
Many Traditional English crafts have disappeared during the last seventy years or so, and many of those that are left are in danger of going the same way. This short film covers the making of besom brooms, once a common sight and commodity in most country homes large and small. They also played a part in many industries. The Witch's Broom or Besom
The Witch's Broom was believed to have many magickal properties, not least of which was being able to fly through the skies and take the Witch on a magickal journey. Transcript:
The besom's form predicts its function, as its use is in ritual cleansing. We use the besom to remove stale and stagnant energy, effectively "resetting" the aura that fills a space. We typically perform this ritual before the arrival of Spring and Summer to make way for Nature's bountiful blessings.
Additionally, it's custom to use your besom to cleanse your magical spaces of unwanted energy. After all, there's a reason we have the tradition of "spring cleaning." A stillness and stagnancy sets in during the colder months, making us less than inclined to the hustle and bustle. But once the newness of Spring is in the air, it's time to cleanse our nests -- both literally and figuratively.
Our besom is designated exclusively for spiritual cleansing, unlike the broom you might use for everyday sweeping. When ritually cleansing with the besom, we hold it slightly above the ground to avoid contact with the floor. This act helps to distinguish the besom cleansing as a spiritual endeavor, with results that we reap metaphysically.
To be true to tradition, we sweep in a clockwise direction, or deasil. Scottish tradition deems this the "prosperous course" -- the direction that will yield good fortune. Conversely, cleansing in a counterclockwise fashion, known as widdershins, invites adversity and misfortune.
In the Wiccan tradition, sweeping in the anticlockwise direction does have the consequent effect of banishing negative spirits. However, this is usually to remove maligned entities that one might sense are actively corrupting a space, not simply for ritual cleansing.
After you've finished cleansing your space, you may place your besom -- if it's small enough -- above your door, bristles pointing up to protect your home. Moreover, if it's your first time using this particular besom, don't forget to make a wish once you break it in -- there's a good chance it might come true.

Ever wondered how witches became so connected to the besom or broom? Well, here's why...
Also we look at a few Goddesses also associated with the besom or broom from around the world.
The Witch's Broom was believed to have many magickal properties, not least of which was being able to fly through the skies and take the Witch on a magickal journey. Owning a broom was a clear and evident sign of Witchcraft then, and a Witch would use the broom in a variety of ways. But how did this innocent household object become so iconic of the craft of the Witch? What customs surround the broom, or besom? And how can you use a broom in your magickal practice?
