Despite how solid our planet's crust might feel beneath our feet, did you know that it’s actually changing all the time? This program explores the composition of our Earth, how the surface is divided into tectonic plates, and the history of the movement of the tectonic plates including the supercontinent Pangaea. It also explains the different types of plate boundaries that exist and the different landforms that can be found at each of them.

PLATE TECTONICS
There's a continent called Pangaea?! Well, there once was. Hundreds of millions of years ago, Earth looked completely different from how it does today. All of the land was packed into a single supercontinent. Geologist Alfred Wegener theorized that this giant landmass split into chunks and slowly drifted apart. Rejected at first by the scientific community, Wegener's theory of continental drift eventually was proved correct: The earth's crust is split up into dozens of pieces called tectonic plates, which "float" on top of the mantle. Warmed by the blazing-hot core, the mantle churns in circular convection currents, dragging tectonic plates along for the ride. Today, plate tectonics is the unifying theory of the entire field of geology. It explains the rock cycle, the origin of Earth's sur...

Plate Tectonics for Kids | Tectonic plates explained
In this video we will explain plate tectonics for kids! Together we will learn about the two main types of tectonic plates, Oceanic and Continental. We also cover the 3 kinds of boundaries which are: Convergent, Divergent, and Transform. This helps us understand exactly how the plate tectonics move AND what happens when they do. We will also learn about Pangaea and how all of the plates were once together and over millions the plate tectonics have cause the continents to separate.
Don't just stop with this video. Visit us at https://learnbright.org/lessons/science/plate-tectonics/ and download your free 12 page lesson plane with more plate tectonics worksheets, activities and more!

The Development of Plate Tectonics
A paradigm shift in geology occurred with the development of plate tectonics, a theory which allows us to understand so much regarding what we see and experience on Earth's surface. How did this come to be? Who is Alfred Wegener? Who is Harold Hess? Who is J. Tuzo Wilson, and what did these people contribute to the theory? What is magnetic striping? What are mantle plumes? There is so much to talk about, and I promise, it's freaking fascinating. Take a look.

The Plate Tectonics Revolution: Crash Course Geography #19
Today we're going to tell the story of a quiet revolution in the 1960s that shifted our entire understanding of how the Earth works. We currently believe that the Earth's broken outer shell rises from the mantle and folds back in - kind of like a dance of creative destruction and reconstruction - giving us our continents and oceans, mountains and valleys, volcanoes, and earthquakes. And it would take a group of scientists all over the world to get us this grand unifying theory of plate tectonics.

A paradigm shift in geology occurred with the development of plate tectonics, a theory which allows us to understand so much regarding what we see and experience on Earth's surface.
