Lucy Ann Ewing is a fictional character in the popular American television series Dallas. The character is played by Charlene Tilton and first appeared in the series premiere on April 2, 1978. Tilton left the show at the end of its eighth season in 1985, before returning for the last two episodes of the 11th season in 1988, becoming a series regular again in the 12th season. Lucy was then written out again in 1990.
Lucy appeared in one episode of the Dallas spin-off Knots Landing - Season One, Episode 6: "Home is for Healing" (1980). She returned as a guest star in the continuation of Dallas in 2012.
Background
Lucy is the eldest daughter of Gary Ewing and wife Valene Clements Ewing. She is also elder sister to twins Bobby and Betsy Ewing (born in 1984, Knots Landing) and Molly Whittaker (born in 1994, Knots Landing), though she has never had any onscreen interaction with her siblings. Because her father had a drinking problem, her parents' marriage collapsed. Gary then abandoned Valene at Southfork Ranch while Lucy was still an infant. Valene intended to raise the child by herself but was run out of town by Gary's older brother J.R. Ewing, who then returned Lucy to Southfork Ranch where she was raised by her grandparents, Jock and Miss Ellie Ewing.

DALLAS: Season 12 (1988-89) Clip (Off Into The Sunset: Exit Ray Krebbs)
This is a clip from "The Sting", the 10th episode (289th overall) of the twelfth season of the 1978-91 CBS saga "Dallas". At this time in the show's history, almost all of the show's original core characters were leaving, starting with the death of original cast member Jim Davis, who played the Ewing family patriarch John Ross "Jock" Ewing, Sr. In 1985, the show was hit with a double blow when both Patrick Duffy (Bobby Ewing) and Charlene Tilton (Lucy Ewing Cooper) left, though Duffy returned in 1986. In 1987, the show's most severe casting defections came when both Victoria Principal (Pamela Barnes Ewing) and Susan Howard (Donna Culver Krebbs) departed. And in 1988, Priscilla Presley (Jenna Wade Krebbs) left the show. This clip has yet another departure as original cast member Steve ...

And in 1988, Priscilla Presley (Jenna Wade Krebbs) left the show. This clip has yet another departure as original cast member Steve Kanaly, who played Southfork Ranch foreman-turned-Ewing heir Ray Krebbs, departs the series (EP/showrunner Leonard Katzman sadly had to let Kanaly go for budgetary reasons). The episode originally aired Friday, January 20, 1989.
At the behest of his wife Jenna Wade as a plea to fix their crumbling marriage, Ray announces to the remaining Ewing clan that he is leaving for Europe. This scene features Ray saying goodbye to four of the most important people in his life: his good friend Clayton Farlow (Howard Keel), his stepmother/mother figure Eleanor Southworth "Miss Ellie" Ewing Farlow (Barbara Bel Geddes), and his two half brothers J.R. (Larry Hagman) and Bobby (Patrick Duffy).
Ray shares a mother/son moment with Miss Ellie. He has a fond farewell with Clayton. Surprising to everyone there, J.R., who had spent most of the series as one of Ray's foes, says that he is only thinking of the good moments the brothers shared. Ray smiles back and shakes his hand, agreeing with his sentiments (I think honestly deep down, J.R. and Ray did share a brotherly love, though a reluctant one). Ray saves his most poignant goodbye for Bobby, who had not only been his brother, but his best friend.
After hugging the Ewings, Ray takes one final look at Southfork, the place he had called home since he was a teenager, before departing
