BC election special: Race sits on a knife edge with several seats too close to call | FULL
British Columbia’s provincial election turned out to be just as close as pollsters predicted, with the outcome sitting on a knife edge late Saturday night as the final results trickled in.
As of 10:45 p.m. PT, the BC NDP were leading or elected in 46 seats, the BC Conservatives were leading or elected in 45 seats, and the Greens were leading or elected in two seats.
The NDP had 44.55 per cent of the popular vote, compared to 43.53 for the BC Conservatives and 8.28 for the BC Green Party.
That split, if it holds, would make for an NDP minority government. But with a few poll stations still to report, several races had leads of under 500 votes, and two races, Juan de Fuca-Malahat and Surrey Centre, had the NDP leading by under 50 votes.

The atmospheric river has triggered numerous flooding alerts and power outages across southern parts of the province, including in the Vancouver area. Julia Foy has more on the wet and dangerous conditions affecting this election day.
There's a major criminal investigation underway tonight in the suburban city of Brampton, Ont., west of Toronto. One woman is dead, struck multiple times in an early-morning shooting that left three others injured. Homicide investigators spent the day combing the scene in an industrial park trying to understand what happened. Sean O'Shea reports.
Israel has carried out at least 10 air strikes on Beirut today, in the heaviest attack on the Lebanese capital in more than a week. Massive plumes of smoke were seen rising over the city's southern suburbs. At least five deaths have been reported, but damage there is still being assessed. As Bianca Facchinei reports, this was just the latest in a day of deadly escalations in the region.
Canada's foreign affairs minister says Indian diplomats still in Canada are on notice following the expulsion of six earlier this week. Melanie Joly says Canada won't tolerate any diplomats putting the lives of Canadians at risk following allegations agents working for India were behind dozens of violent crimes across the country. Mercedes Stephenson has more on the active investigations and why experts say the allegations could mark one of the most egregious assaults on Canada's sovereignty.
And, a hurricane is the last thing Cuba needs. The island nation of 11 million people is struggling with yet another nationwide power outage Saturday. The first is happening on Thursday. The entire country, save for hotels and resorts privileged enough to have back-up generators, operating by candlelight. Touria Izri has the latest.
