Loma Linda (Spanishfor "beautiful hill") is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States, that was incorporated in 1970. The population was 23,261 at the 2010 census, up from 18,681 at the 2000 census. The central area of the city was originally known as Mound City; its eastern half was originally an unincorporated community known as Bryn Mawr.
History
The city was incorporated in 1970. It has often been the site of destructive flooding of the San Timoteo Creek.
In the late 1800’s, Loma Linda began as a development of tourist halls called Mound City, as encouraged by railroad companies. In the early 1800’s shops and cottages were built but the project would later fail. During the late 1890’s, a group of businessmen and physicians from Los Angeles bought the hotel and reopened it as a convalescent home and health resort. They called it Loma Linda, meaning “pretty hill” in Spanish.

Longevity Secrets From The Healthiest Old People In America
In this video, my brother Zane and I hang out with the healthiest old people in America and learn their secrets to longevity.

Is Loma Linda Really a Blue Zone?

For example, in Ikaria, Greece, he discovers a town which keeps the stress levels down by not keeping track of time. And, as you would expect from a leading chef, he also can’t resist sampling some of the local specialties in every place he visits.

There is an unexpected blue zone in the fast food homeland, the United States. In Loma Linda, the Christian faith has gained a strong grip, which may have contributed to people living much longer here than in the rest of the world.
In this food and lifestyle documentary series, internationally renowned chef Niklas Ekstedt explores the secret of living past the age of 100. He’s travelling to six of the world’s ‘blue zones’ – regions such as Sardinia, Costa Rica, and Okinawa in Japan, where unusually high numbers of people reach an advanced age – in a quest to find the recipe for a long and healthy life. Along the way, he befriends locals and gets to know them, joining in with their daily routines and discussing their approaches to life, food, and ageing. He also reveals different ways of living. For example, in Ikaria, Greece, he discovers a town which keeps the stress levels down by not keeping track of time. And, as you would expect from a leading chef, he also can’t resist sampling some of the local specialties in every place he visits.

In this video, my brother Zane and I hang out with the healthiest old people in America and learn their secrets to longevity.
In Loma Linda, California residents live about a decade longer than the average American and are staying vibrant and healthy into their 80s, 90s, and even 100s.
This anomaly of an American city is home to a large number of centenarians or people who live to be over 100 years old.
Loma Linda is one of five Blue Zones in the entire world and the only one in North America. A Blue Zone is an area of the world where residents live much longer than the average human and also seem to stay fit and healthy into old age, avoiding the typical diseases that have become leading causes of disease. The other Blue Zones are Nicoya, Costa Rica, Sardinia, Italy, Ikaria, Greece, and Okinawa, Japan.
The majority of residents in Loma Linda are Seventh Day Adventists, a Christian religion that believes in specific healthy lifestyle practices. Researchers believe this may be a key contributing factor to Loma Linda's increased health and longevity.

Paul touches on Loma Linda, a “blue zone” in California and why their decreased mortality probably has to do more with lifestyle and religion than diet. He also touches on how a plant based diet quells libido and the decreased sperm quality of those that live in Loma Linda.
