Jože Pučnik (9 March 1932 – 11 January 2003) was a Slovenianpublic intellectual, sociologist and politician. During the Communist regime of Josip Broz Tito, Pučnik was one of the most outspoken Slovenian critics of dictatorship and lack of civil liberties in Yugoslavia. He was imprisoned for a total of seven years, and later forced into exile. After returning to Slovenia in the late 1980s, he became the leader of the Democratic Opposition of Slovenia, a platform of democratic parties that defeated the Communists in the first free elections in 1990 and introduced a democratic system and market economy to Slovenia. He is also considered one of the fathers of Slovenian independence from Yugoslavia.
Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport(IATA: LJU,ICAO: LJLJ) (Slovene:Letališče Jožeta Pučnika Ljubljana), also known by its previous name Brnik Airport, is the international airport of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The airport is located near the village of Brnik, 24km (15mi) northwest of Ljubljana and 9.5km (5.9mi) east of Kranj on the road between Kranj and Mengeš. It serves as the homebase for Adria Airways, the Slovenian flag carrier.
History
The airport was officially opened in December 1963. It replaced Polje Airport in the former Municipality of Polje near Ljubljana, which served as the city's airport from 1933 and was Slovenia's first civil airport. Regular flights from the new airport at Brnik began in January 1964.
On December 8, 2004, the airport received its first annual millionth passenger. Overall, the airport handled 1,321,100 passengers in 2013, representing a 10.2% rise in traffic figures compared to the previous year.
Ljubljana (Slovene:[ljuˈbljàːna];[luˈblàːna], also known by other alternative names) is the capital and largest city of Slovenia. During antiquity, it was the site of a Roman city called Emona. It was under Habsburg rule from the Middle Ages until the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918.
Situated at the middle of a trade route between the northern Adriatic Sea and the Danube region, it was the historical capital of Carniola, a Slovene-inhabited part of the Habsburg Monarchy, and it has been the cultural, educational, economic, political, and administrative center of independent Slovenia since 1991. Its central geographic location within Slovenia, transport connections, concentration of industry, scientific and research institutions and cultural tradition are contributing factors to its leading position.
The City Municipality of Ljubljana, also the City of Ljubljana (Slovene:Mestna občina Ljubljana, acronym MOL) is one of eleven city municipalities in Slovenia. Its center is Ljubljana, the largest and capital city of Slovenia. As of June 2015, its mayor is Zoran Janković.
Administrative division
The City Municipality of Ljubljana comprises 17 districts (Slovene singular: četrtna skupnost).
These are represented by district councils (Slovene singular: svet četrtne skupnosti or četrtni svet).
Economy
The budget of MOL was 346,505,748 euros for 2011. It was shaped by the sell of land lot and the construction of the Stožice Sports Park. With 125 million euros of debt, MOL was the most indebted Slovenian municipality in April 2010.
