Little Italy is a somewhat hilly neighborhood in DowntownSan Diego, California that was originally a predominately Italian fishing neighborhood. It has since been gentrified and now Little Italy is a scenic neighborhood composed mostly of Italian restaurants, Italian retail shops, home design stores, art galleries, and residential units.
Little Italy is one of the more active downtown neighborhoods and has frequent festivals and events including a weekly farmers market, also known as the Mercato (the Market, in Italian). The neighborhood has low crime rates when compared with other neighborhoods in Downtown San Diego and is maintained by the Little Italy Neighborhood Association, which looks after trash collection, decorations, and special events.
Geography
Little Italy is located in the northwest end of Downtown, just a few blocks away from the Embarcadero. It is located north of Columbia, south of Middletown, southeast of Core, and west of Cortez Hill. It is also located on a hill thus giving its hilly terrain.
With an estimated population of 1,381,069 as of July 1, 2014, San Diego is the eighth-largest city in the United States and second-largest in California. San Diego is the birthplace of California and is known for its mild year-round climate, natural deep-water harbor, extensive beaches, long association with the U.S. Navy, and recent emergence as a healthcare and biotechnology development center.
Historically home to the Kumeyaay people, San Diego was the first site visited by Europeans on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Upon landing in San Diego Bay in 1542, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo claimed the entire area for Spain, forming the basis for the settlement of Alta California 200 years later. The Presidio and Mission of San Diego, founded in 1769, formed the first European settlement in what is now California. In 1821, San Diego became part of newly independent Mexico, and in 1850, became part of the United States following the Mexican–American War and the admission of California to the union.
The Santa Fe Depot (as it was originally designated) officially opened on March 8, 1915, to accommodate visitors to the Panama-California Exposition. The depot was completed during a particularly optimistic period in the City's development, and represents the battle waged by the City of San Diego to become the West Coast terminus of the Santa Fe Railway system’s transcontinental railroad, a fight that was ultimately lost to the City of Los Angeles.
The Fulton River District makes up the north east area of the Near West Side, just west of the Loop. It is bordered by the Chicago River to the east, Ohio Street on the north, Madison Street to the south, and the Kennedy Expressway to the west. The Fulton River District is a former manufacturing and current transportation corridor turned residential neighborhood. The neighborhood is made up of warehouses that have been converted to loft condominiums, new construction high rise condominiums and apartments, high rise and mid rise business offices, retail and restaurants. The Fulton River District is also the home of The Boeing Company, and the Ogilvie Transportation Center (formerly Chicago & North Western Station), a major commuter rail terminal. The neighborhood is known for the scent of chocolate emanating from the Blommer Chocolate Company.
Italy (Italia in Latin and Italian) was the name of the administrative division of the Italian peninsula during the Roman era. It was not a province, but became the territory of the city of Rome, thus having a special status. Following the end of the Social War (91–88 BC), Rome had allowed its Italian allies (socii) full rights in Roman society and granted the Roman citizenship to all the Italic peoples.
After having been for centuries the heart of the Empire, from the 3rd century the government and the cultural center began to move eastward: first the Edict of Caracalla in 212 AD extended Roman citizenship to all free men within the imperial boundaries, then during Constantine's reign (306–337) the seat of the Empire was moved to Constantinople in 330 AD.
The 1990 FIFA World Cup was the 14th FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football world championship tournament. It was held from 8 June to 8 July 1990 in Italy, the second country to host the event twice (the first being Mexico in 1986). Teams representing 116 national football associations entered, and qualification began in April 1988. A total of 22 teams qualified from this process, along with host nation Italy and defending champion Argentina.
"California" is a song by Canadian pop rock band Wave. It was released in April 2001 as the lead single from their debut album, Nothing As It Seems. In Canada, the song reached number one on the country's pop chart. It was also nominated for Best Single at the 2002 Juno Awards, losing to Nickelback's "How You Remind Me". "California" became the biggest song in the band's history, and they were unable to duplicate its success, making them a one-hit wonder.
Trivia
The music video reached number one on Canada's MuchMusic Countdown for the week of August 10, 2001.

[4K] Station Tour | A great piece of railroad history! A Quick Tour of San Diego's Santa Fe Depot.
Welcome to San Diego's Santa Fe Depot! In this video, I'll be giving a quick tour of San Diego's Santa Fe Depot.
Santa Fe Depot was opened by the Santa Fe railway in 1915, and is the southernmost terminus for Amtrak Pacific Surfliner and coaster commuter trains, as well as a stop on the San Diego green line tram.
I understand that a lot of the footage in this video feels rushed, and that's because it was. I was running a super tight schedule while in San Diego, so I didn't have a ton of time to get the best footage I could. The next tour will feature Los Angeles Union Station, and will be much more in-depth.
This was a new type of video, and really a test for longer, more in-depth tours to come in the future, so if you want to see more station tours in the future, let me know in the com...

This weekend, the historic Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego celebrates its 100th anniversary (March 8th). The station has served many trains over the years of the Santa Fe, San Diego and Arizona, San Diego Electric Railway, Amtrak, Coaster, and the San Diego Trolley. Let's take a look at some of the trains arriving and departing the depot over the last few years.

San Diego Rail Cam
Welcome to the San Diego Rail Cam @ Santa Fe Depot. This is the last and furthest south stop on the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner. The camera is located above track four between Ash St on the North and Broadway on the South. 32.71747, -117.17023. The camera is fixed, pointing north towards Ash St. The viewing area is tight and provides privacy to the adjacent high rise apartments. We are not broadcasting sound. Downtown San Diego is in a quiet zone so you normally would not hear train horns. More information about the camera and what you are seeing can be seen in this video:

First Train ride 1969 (Santa Fe depot San Diego) (#67)
My Parents knew that I loved trains so they used to drive me down to the station to watch the trains come in and leave, this trip was different it was to be my first train ride. We took a short ride up the coast to the Del Mar station where my dad had driven the family station wagon and picked us up. 👍🏻

There are six tracks visible in the frame. The street at the top of the frame is Beech and the Little Italy Trolley Station. Ash street is the closest crossing you can see to the camera.
The MTS light rail Trolleys run on two tracks on the far right with the overhead wires. These are the Blue and Green lines.
The AMTRAK SURFLINER and the regional COASTER trains use tracks one (on the right) through four (on the left directly below the camera). Amtrak and COASTER rarely use track four. Track four is normally used for passenger loading when the other tracks are busy and when special trains run, such as for Padre games.
Track four goes through the platforms to the rail yards about one mile south of here, and beyond. Track four is used by BNSF freight trains, primarily at night. There are usually four freight trains passing thought here at night.

In this video I briefly cover San Diego's history, population, skyline as well as a few things that make the city unique.
This was a new type of video, and really a test for longer, more in-depth tours to come in the future, so if you want to see more station tours in the future, let me know in the comments below.
Here is the previous video where rode into San Diego on Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner: https://youtu.be/2Ubg1F6SFUM
I also recommend checking out the main channel, where I post more rail and aviation videos.
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed!

• San Diego Railcam...
My Parents knew that I loved trains so they used to drive me down to the station to watch the trains come in and leave, this trip was different it was to be my first train ride. We took a short ride up the coast to the Del Mar station where my dad had driven the family station wagon and picked us up. 👍🏻
Santa Fe Depot is a beautiful 1915 train station in San Diego, California. Other than BNSF freight movements and the San Diego Trolley, railfans and passengers can catch Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner Intercity service to Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo, and the NCTD COASTER to Oceanside. Lots of cool-looking Siemens Chargers!

Today, we're at San Diego's Santa Fe Depot for a look around this downtown station! Serving the SDMTS Trolley, COASTER, and the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, this station, on a normal summer weekday, would be pretty busy. Enjoy the look around!
