Namesake is a term used to characterize a person, place, thing, quality, action, state, or idea that has the same, or a similar, name to another – especially (but not exclusively) if the person or thing is actually named after another, rather than merely sharing the name of another.
For example, if a person, place, or thing has the same name as another – especially if they are named after another person, place, or thing, then the one that is named after the other, i.e., the recipient of the naming, is said to be the namesake of the name source. However, usage can go in the other direction, too, with the namesake referring to the source: Merriam-Webster defines it as: "one that has the same name as another; especially: one who is named after another or for whom another is named".
The earliest use reported in the Oxford English Dictionary was in 1635. Dictionaries suggest that the word probably comes from "name's sake", "for one's name('s) sake", for "name sake".
History
The term namesake was first recorded in 1635, referring to a place with the same name as another. Among other recordings, a 1646 usage was carried through in an 1806 publication, entitled A Critical Pronouncing Dictionary, and Expositor of the English Language. Modern-day usage has expanded to several uses for the term.
Places is an album by American pianist and composer Brad Mehldau released on the Warner Bros. label in 2000.
Reception
AllMusic awarded the album 4½ stars and in its review by Richard S. Ginell, stated "the album is about the constancy of his personality and musical language, taking all of your personal mental baggage with you wherever you travel. This is an important album, one that anyone interested in piano jazz ought to check out". On All About Jazz, David Adler noted "Each piece is named for a particular place (hence the title), which Mehldau attempts to represent in musical terms. In short, Places is a concept album, and a particularly effective one. For the most part, Mehldau holds his prodigious chops in check, preferring instead to conjure moods and memories with subtle nuances".JazzTimes reviewer, Bill Shoemaker commented "In addition to being a technically dazzling pianist, Mehldau has an arch sense of nuance; by changing the touch of a single note or introducing a single beat's rest in a long serpentine line, Mehldau can turn a smile or a frown upside down".
Places is the lone album by the Washington, D.C. indie rock band Georgie James, released on September 25, 2007. It includes the singles "Need Your Needs" and "Cake Parade." Guest musicians include Andrew Black (The Explosion), T.J. Lipple (Aloha), Tony Cavallario (Aloha) and Matthew Gengler (Aloha). The artwork for the album was designed by the band and Zack Nipper.
The episode begins with Claire and her friend Zach walking into the high school amphitheater with lunch as Claire's former cheerleader friends wait anxiously for the results of the Homecoming Court vote. Claire downplays the entire ritual, but Zach encourages her to check the posting and see if she had won. To Claire's surprise, she has been voted Homecoming Queen, with her main rival, Jackie, merely a member of the court. Astonished, Claire and the rest of the cheerleaders turn around to see much of the student body proclaiming congratulations and support for Claire. She later discovers that Zach had been campaigning for her, working to win the "unpopular vote" by letting everyone know that Claire is not like the popular Jackie. Jackie, however, spoils the moment in an attempt to deflate Claire's victory by poking fun at Zach. Claire, beginning to see the importance of Zach's friendship to her, promptly punches Jackie in the face.
Flight dynamics is the study of the performance, stability, and control of vehicles flying through the air or in outer space. It is concerned with how forces acting on the vehicle influence its speed and attitude with respect to time.
In fixed-wing aircraft, the changing orientation of the vehicle with respect to the local air flow is represented by two critical parameters, angle of attack ("alpha") and angle of sideslip ("beta"). These angles describe the vector direction of airspeed, important because it is the principal source of modulations in the aerodynamic forces and moments applied to the aircraft.
Spacecraft flight dynamics involve three forces: propulsive (rocket engine), gravitational, and lift and drag (when traveling through the earths or any other celestial atmosphere). Because aerodynamic forces involved with spacecraft flight are very small, this leaves gravity as the dominant force.
Aircraft and spacecraft share a critical interest in their orientation with respect to the earth horizon and heading, and this is represented by another set of angles, "yaw," "pitch" and "roll" which angles match their colloquial meaning, but also have formal definition as an Euler sequence. These angles are the product of the rotational equations of motion, where orientation responds to torque, just as the velocity of a vehicle responds to forces. For all flight vehicles, these two sets of dynamics, rotational and translational, operate simultaneously and in a coupled fashion to evolve the vehicle's state (orientation and velocity) trajectory.

What Life in the Soviet Union Was Like
Here's the standard high school history class summary of the Soviet Union: The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was a communist state from 1922 to 1991 and was a big rival of the US from WWII to the end of the '80s. But what was the Soviet Union really like? What was it like living in the Soviet Union? That same history class probably told you that it was awful, but it's a lot more complicated than that.

Almost every dictator at one point had a vision of their perfect utopian city. The USSR's Joseph Stalin was no different - in the early 1930s the Soviet Union had great plans for Moscow. From building the tallest building in the world with a giant statue of Lenin on top to completely destroying the Red Square and changing Moscow's name in honor of Stalin. Most of these plans never came to life due to the start of World War II. In today's video we're going to look at early Soviet plans for Moscow and see what Stalin's communist utopia was meant to look like. Smash like and sub for more!

With the Soviet Union victorious at the end of World War 2, Stalin’s cult of personality was at its peak. The Stalinization of Eastern Europe included the renaming of cities, following the Soviet model of Stalingrad (Stalin City).
1. Bulgaria
Varna – Stalin (1948-1956)
Varna was an important Bulgarian city and seaside resort. Its name was changed in 1948, in honor of the 70th birthday of Stalin.
2. Romania
Brașov – Orașul Stalin (1950-1960)
Brașov - “Stalin City” expanded from a medieval town into an industrial centre, home to Romanian-Soviet tractors and trucks manufacturing.
3. Albania
Kuçova - Qyteti Stalin (1950–1990)
The Albanian “Stalin City” flourished as a centre of oil extraction and was the location of a military airbase.
4. Hungary
Dunapentele, later Dunaújváros - Sztálinváros (1951–1961)
Built from scratch, “Stalin City” was a trademark of socialism in Hungary. Its economic focus was the iron and steel industry.
5. Immediately after the death of Stalin (5 March 1953), communist authorities in Poland and East Germany renamed one city in each country after him.
6. Poland
Katowice – Stalinogród (1953–1956)
The old centre of the Upper Silesian mining area, Katowice - “City of Stalin” became a heavily industrialized city.
East Germany / DGR
7. Eisenhüttenstadt - Stalinstadt (1953–1961)
Eisenhüttenstadt (“Ironworks City”) was meant to be the ideal planned socialist city. Its architecture and industry are typical of the Stalinist period (1950s).
8. After 1956, as a consequence of de-Stalinization in the Soviet bloc, the cities regained their original names (except the Albanian one)
Nikita Khrushchev speech bubble: „Stalingrad will be renamed Volgograd!” (it happened in 1961)

I decided to travel the Post-Soviet space, and to talk to locals about their life in the Soviet Union and after its collapse. Let's visit USSR's former biggest spa resort, go to Stalin's dacha (countryside house), KGB sanatorium, and, finally, Stalin's hometwon.
