The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is a county-level police agency operating in Lincoln County, Nebraska.
Office holders
19th and early 20th century
The office of sheriff in Nebraska is an elected one. The first sheriff elected in Lincoln County was O. O. Austin, elected at Cottonood Springs by 21 voters in October 1867. Much of the first sheriff's two-year term was spent with the newly incorporated Lincoln County's first court case, State of Nebraska vs. John Burley.
A few of the early sheriffs were professional lawmen. Sheriff David Baker, for example, was a 20-year law enforcement officer, variously a city marshal in North Platte for ten years, Lincoln County sheriff from 1888 to 1893, and Union Pacific Railroad detective. So, too, was sheriff Tim Keliher, a two-term sheriff who had also been the county's deputy sheriff (elected in 1897 under sheriff Jake Miller), and who was a Union Pacific detective that helped organize UP's mobile ranger corps, and the chief special agent for the Illinois Central Railroad. Between the two of them, Baker and Keliher had more years in law enforcement than the more popular lawmen that history remembers, Wyatt Earp, Pat Garrett, and Wild Bill Hickok, combined. But, comparatively, far less is known and remembers of Baker and Keliher than of the likes of Earp, Garrett and Hickok.
In principle, a sheriff is a legal official with responsibility for a "shire", i.e. county. In practice, the specific combination of legal, political and ceremonial duties of a sheriff varies greatly from country to country.
In the United States of America, a sheriff is a sworn law enforcement officer and the duties of his/her office vary across states and counties. A sheriff is generally an elected county official, with duties that typically include policing unincorporated areas, maintaining county jails, providing security to courts in the county, and (in some states) serving warrants and court papers. In addition to these policing and correction services, a sheriff is often responsible for enforcing civil law within his/her jurisdiction.
Lincoln County is a county located in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,570, making it the fifth-least populous county in Washington. The county seat and largest city is Davenport. The county was created out of Whitman County on November 24, 1883 and is named for Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States.

There were 5,298 housing units at an average density of 2 per squaremile (1/km²). Lincoln County was created by the Idaho Legislature on March 18, 1895, by a partitioning of Blaine County, which was created earlier that month by a merger of Alturas and Logan Counties. Lincoln County itself was partitioned on January 28, 1913, with a western portion becoming Gooding County and an eastern portion becoming Minidoka County. The county assumed its present borders on February 8, 1919 when a southern portion became Jerome County.
In 2002, 66% of church goers in the county were Mormon.
