HOW TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY OR INTERSTATE (DRIVING TUTORIAL)
Today's video is about learning how to merge properly onto a highway, freeway or interstate. This maneuver can be tricky for new inexperience drivers. It requires a little bit of practice to master this technique.
Entering & Leaving Limited Access/Interstate Highways

ramp, an acceleration lane, and a merging area.
When entering an interstate highway:
1. On the entrance ramp, begin checking for an opening in traffic. Signal
your intent to merge onto the expressway.
2. Increase your speed as the ramp straightens into the acceleration lane.

The history of the highway started after the separation of Singapore from Malaysia on 9 August 1965.
When the Malaysian government decided to make Port Swettenham (now Port Klang) as Malaysia's new national port as a replacement of Singapore. As a result, the government planned to build a highway connecting Port Klang to Kuala Lumpur by upgrading the former Kuala Lumpur–Klang Highway (Jalan Kuala Lumpur–Klang) (opened to traffic on 14 January 1959) to a full motorway by replacing the existing at-grade intersections with interchanges, making the Federal Highway as Malaysia's first expressway.

If you know that you are getting off the freeway at MM 278 and you are currently at MM 273, you know that you have 5 miles (kilometres) before exiting. Thus, you are going to start getting into your lane in preparation for exiting the freeway.
Most signboards on freeways and interstates are overhead. Be sure to be under the arrow that indicates which direction you want to go. If you are travelling east on Interstate 66 outside Washington DC, for example, at MM there is a junction with Interstate 425 at MM 64 and if you want to continue on I 64, you must stay under the arrows that indicate I 64 east.
The interstate system in the United States is systematic. Odd numbered interstates run north-south and even numbered interstates run east-west.
If it is a 3-digit interstate, it is a ring road around an urban area, a spur road or a circumferential road, which means that the interstate is a 1/2 loop that leaves the main interstate and then connects back to the interstate.
If the 3-digit interstate begins with an even number, it is either a ring road around an urban centre or it's a circumferential road. If the 3-digit interstate begins with an odd number, than it is a spur road.
In Washington, DC, for example, I495 is a ring road, the I295 is a circumferential road, and the I395 is a spur road.
In knowing the mile markers and what kind of interstate you’re on, in conjunction with the location of junctions, construction, exits and other oddities along the freeway, driving along a freeway is going to be easy.
Good luck on your road journey.

A limited-access road, known by various terms worldwide, including limited-access highway, dual-carriageway, expressway, and partial controlled access highway, is a highway or arterial road for high-speed traffic which has many or most characteristics of a controlled-access highway (freeway or motorway), including limited or no access to adjacent property, some degree of separation of opposing traffic flow, use of grade separated interchanges to some extent, prohibition of some modes of transport such as bicycles or horses, and very few or no intersecting cross-streets. The degree of isolation from local traffic allowed varies between countries and regions. The precise definition of these terms varies by jurisdiction.

All limited-access highway entrances have three basic parts: an entrance
ramp, an acceleration lane, and a merging area.
When entering an interstate highway:
1. On the entrance ramp, begin checking for an opening in traffic. Signal
your intent to merge onto the expressway.
2. Increase your speed as the ramp straightens into the acceleration lane.
Adjust your speed so that you can safely merge into the traffic when you
reach the end of the acceleration lane.
3. Merge into traffic when you can do so safely. You must yield the right of way to traffic on the highway. Do not stop in the acceleration lane
unless traffic is too heavy and there is no space for you to enter safely.

Entering & Leaving Limited Access/Interstate Highways

IT'S THURSDAY, 7:13 IN THE MORNING,
PEOPLE RUSHING TO THE WORKPLACE
The Kuala Lumpur–Petaling Jaya Traffic Dispersal Scheme was implemented in 1974 under the surviliance of the Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR). This scheme includes the Kuala Lumpur Inner Ring Road, Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 1, Jalan Syed Putra and Federal Highway Route 2 (Kuala Lumpur–Petaling Jaya).
Funded by a loan granted by the World Bank, the upgrade works for the Federal Highway from Subang Airport Interchange to Kuala Lumpur started from 1974 until 1977. The highway was originally a 4-lane limited access highway except for the Petaling Jaya stretch where it became 6-lane highway. However, in 1992 PLUS Expressways, the concession holder of North–South Expressway has upgraded the entire highway to a 6-lane highway with two toll plazas.
Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau. The 6-lane toll highway had begun in operation on 11 May 1993. The highway handles incredible volumes of traffic there is significant congestion at more or less any time of day.
