Secret lives of cells – Life sciences
Cells are the basic building materials for all living things. But much of the lives of cells are still unknown and unexplored. More knowledge about cells will be of great use in many areas.
Meet Sten Linnarsson, Karolinska Institutet, who has shown that there are more cell types than previously known. Johan Elf at Uppsala University who examines the cells to find out how they read their DNA. Mia Phillipson, Uppsala University, who investigates the unknown features and hidden tasks of the immune cells. David Drew, Stockholm University, who finds out how the cell takes up energy and how to stop it can slow the development of cancer.
The research on cells is included in the field of life sciences, which can be explained as science of all living things. How living organisms function, intera...

A Year of Life Science in 3 Minutes
Life Science is a story of life. It covers the cell, genetics, ecosystems, biotic factors, abiotic and much more all working together to keep life alive.
According to your location, you may cover the following topics.
Cell organelles and processes. This includes the mitochondria, lysosomes, the ER , nucleus, vacuoles, and several more. Next, you may study the major body systems like the cardiovascular, integumentary system, digestive system, and many more.
Now you may study genetics which answers "why you look the way you do?"
Ecosystems are also covered and how energy is transferred in an ecosystem. Symbiotic relationships will also be covered along with predator and prey relationships. Classification is also a part of the curriculum along with evolution.

1:06:01 Grassland
1:12:03 Aquatic
1:09:05 6 kingdoms
Life Science or Biology class.
We began the year with the basic unit of life, the cell. In other words, the cell is considered the smallest thing that is alive. In order for something to be alive, it needs to have these 6 characteristics.
All living things are made of cells
Contain DNA
Respond to stimuli
Grow develop
Reproduce
Require energy
The organelles of a cell work together to keep the cell alive. The major organelles of the cell covered are the nucleus, Endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, Golgi body, cell membrane, lysosomes, and ribosomes.
Life also has levels of organization cells make tissues which make organs which make organ systems make organisms.
The cell divides during cell division which includes mitosis
Cell division begins during interphase when the cell makes copies of organelles and DNA
Mitosis begins with prophase when chromosomes first appear
During the year in Life Science or Biology class, we discuss how the body systems work together to keep the body alive. These systems include,
Integumentary system
Skeletal system
Muscular system
Digestive system
Immunity lymphatic
Circulatory
Excretory
Nervous
Respiratory
Genetics is the study of how traits are passed from one generation to the next.
Topics covered,
the following topics
Genes and chromosomes and traits
An allele
Working out Punnett squares
Selective breeding
Evolution helps explain the variety of life.
We also covered an ecology unit and studied, symbiotic relationships, food webs, and the major land biomes.
