The Liberia National Union (LINU) is a political party in Liberia West Africa. It was formed by Dr. Harry Moniba, the former Vice President of Liberia (1984 - 1990). Moniba also helped to create the multi party election system that the country currently uses. He served as LINU's first standard bearer as well. It participated in the 11 October 2005 elections as part of the three-party United Democratic Alliance (UDA) coalition.
The Union was formed in Geneva in 1932 by Georges Oltramare, a lawyer and writer. Noted for his anti-Semitic writing, Oltramare founded the Order Politique Nationale in 1931 but merged it with the Union de Défense Economique the following year to form the National Union. The group continued under Oltramare's leadership until 1940 when he moved to Paris in order to co-operate more closely with the Nazis. Oltramare spent four years as a member of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland representing the National Union.
The Union became notorious for a demonstration in Geneva on November 9, 1932 when their march to the city's Salle Communale was counterdemonstrated by the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland. In the resulting trouble the Swiss army opened fire on the Socialists resulting in 13 deaths.
National Union (Unione Nazionale) was a pro-fascist Italian Catholic political party during the 1920s, the first of several "Clerico-Fascist" political organizations established within the decade. The party was established with the permission of Pope Pius XI, dealing the final blow to the anti-fascist Catholic Italian People's Party.
The National Union's membership primarily came from aristocratic and pro-monarchist Catholics in Turin, Milan, and Naples, along with members of the Black Nobility. These groups represented over half of the signatories of the party's April 1923 manifesto. Pollard describes the Unione Nazionale as "essentially an aristocratic clique". Its manifesto credited fascism with the goal of establishing "a lasting social Christian and Italian order".
According to the pro-Fascist Il Momento of Turin, the party was notorious for its "hostility towards the works and towards trade union organizations".
The National Union, and the similar Centro Nazionale, supported the Fascist list in the March 1929 elections, only to virtually disappear from the political map after the conclusion of the Lateran treaties. The Centro Nazionale dissolved in the summer of 1930, leaving the Unione Nazionale as the sole remaining "Clerico-Fascist" political party.
Liberiai/laɪˈbɪəriə/, officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country on the West African coast. Liberia means "Land of the Free" in Latin. It is bordered by Sierra Leone to its west, Guinea to its north and Ivory Coast to its east. It covers an area of 111,369 square kilometres (43,000sqmi) and is home to 4,503,000 people.English is the official language and over 20 indigenous languages are spoken, representing the numerous tribes who make up more than 95% of the population.
Forests on the coastline are composed mostly of salt-tolerant mangrove trees, while the more sparsely populated inland has forests opening onto a plateau of drier grasslands. The climate is equatorial, with significant rainfall during the May–October rainy season and harsh harmattan winds the remainder of the year. Liberia possesses about forty percent of the remaining Upper Guinean rainforest. It was an important producer of rubber in the early 20th century.
Liberia is the first canton in the province of Guanacaste in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 1,436.47km², and has a population of 67,463.
Cerro Cacao (Cacao Mountain) and Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park. Mark the northeast border of this diamond-shaped canton. The Río Salto delineates the southwestern border as far as the Río Tempisque, and the Tempisque forms the border on the southeast as far as the Bahía Naranjo (Orange Bay). The canton includes the most visited portion of Santa Rosa National Park on its northwest border.
Districts
The canton of Liberia is subdivided into 5 distritos (districts).
History
The canton was established by a legislative decree of November 4, 1862.
Liberia is a historic plantation home located at Manassas, Virginia. It was built about 1825, and is a two-story, five-bay, Federal style brick dwelling. It has parapet side gable roof and a molded brick cornice with a saw-tooth design. It has a single-pile, modified central passage plan. During the American Civil War, it was used as headquarters by both Confederate and Union forces. Both Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis, in addition to other statesmen, visited Liberia during the War. The house was acquired by the City of Manassas on December 31, 1986, for use as a museum. The house is under restoration and is open for special events and tours by appointment.

Who cares if the southern half of the country split off and it’s been fighting a very bloody war against it ever since? Let’s have an election! The 20th Presidential election in American history took place on November 8th, 1864. Right smack dab during the Civil War, so yeah, Americans were a bit...preoccupied.
By the summer of 1864, the North (aka the Union) had gained momentum. The South (aka the Confederate States of America) was retreating, yet were not showing signs of giving up. Hundreds of thousands had already died. Even though the Union won the Battle of Gettysburg and the Siege of Vicksburg the previous summer, they had lost over 65,000 soldiers that summer to do it. In comparison, they had lost 108,000 during the entire war up to that point.
Many Northerners were growing tired of the war. Those who originally were excited about the war, now questioned the point of it. They were also questioning the President himself, the man who led them into it. Abraham Lincoln.
Lincoln was questioning his ability to get re-elected, and rightly so. The country hadn’t re-elected a President since Andrew Jackson 32 years prior, way back in 1832. Lincoln had made many enemies, especially in Congress. Lincoln now openly embraced the emancipation of all slaves, and even Northerners turned against him because of this. Lincoln’s suspension of the writ of habeas corpus was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Obviously, this war had been a nightmare, and the stress had aged him considerably.
Two distinct factions developed in both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party.
First the Republicans. Well, some Republicans who didn’t like Lincoln split off. They called themselves “Radical Republicans,” and formed a new political party called the Radical Democracy Party. Woah...what a radical name. The radicals nominated John C. Fremont for President and general John Cochrane for Vice President, but their plan backfired as Fremont later ended up backing Lincoln after he was afraid the Democrats might win. More on the Democrats in a bit.
The other Republicans formed a new political party as well, called the National Union Party. Some Democrats even joined. They had a clear, impressively specific platform:
They wanted “pursuit of the war until the Confederacy surrendered unconditionally; a constitutional amendment for the abolition of slavery; aid to disabled Union veterans; continued European neutrality; enforcement of the Monroe Doctrine; encouragement of immigration; and construction of a transcontinental railroad.”
Lincoln wanted to go with a new running mate this time, dropping Hannibal Hamlin. (sorry Hannibal) to broaden his support. He went with a Democrat. That’s right, a Democrat! The National Union Party nominated Andrew Johnson, a former Senator and current Military Governor of Tennessee for Vice President.
Fortunately for the Republicans, the Democratic Party was even more split than them. The two major factions were the War Democrats and Peace Democrats. Extreme War Democrats wanted to finish the job completely. Extreme Peace Democrats, nicknamed Copperheads, wanted to stop the war immediately. Looking for unity, they nominated George McClellan, the general Lincoln had fired two years before. McClellan was definitely a War Democrat, but he was very popular, and the Democrats nominated the Peace Democrat George Pendleton, a Representative from Ohio, for Vice President to balance it out. Though McClellan personally was for continuing the war, the two ran a campaign for ending the war, a peace platform.
The fact that the Democrats were split and with Fremont changing his mind to endorse him gave Lincoln confidence he could actually get re-elected. Lincoln probably gained more confidence when on September 6, 1864, General William Tecumseh Sherman led forces to take over Atlanta and his March to the Sea thereafter devastated the South.

Today’s Republican Party opposes big government. It’s culturally conservative. Its demographic support is strongest among white voters, and it usually dominates elections in the South. And its 2016 presidential nominee has been heavily criticized for inciting racial tensions.
But things weren’t always this way.
Over the past 160 or so years, the party has undergone a remarkable transformation from the party of Abraham Lincoln… to the party of Donald Trump.

In one of our most HEATED debates to date, Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by President of the National Union of Students Larissa Kennedy to discuss the 'snowflake-y' behaviour of university students who want trigger warnings for certain topics within their syllabuses. Piers challenges this by asking what could be so offensive to make students need a warning. Larissa answers by saying it is normal for students to want to know what is included in their upcoming term's syllabus. The debate continues to get more and more fiery until eventually Larissa asks how long it's been since Piers was a university University student. When he responds she says it "was a long time ago" which leads to Piers asking her if she is being ageist... trigger warning alert! Watch the video and see how many times she 'triggers' Piers Morgan...

The 20th episode in a very long series about the American presidential elections from 1788 to the present. In 1864, the country is still at war with itself or each other, however which way you look at it. A general Lincoln fires after the Battle of Antietam comes back to challenge him for the Presidency.
