Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (/ˈtʃɑːrlz ˈlʌtwɪdʒ ˈdɒdsən/; 27 January 1832 – 14 January 1898), better known by his pen name Lewis Carroll (/ˈkærəl/), was an English writer, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon, and photographer. His most famous writings are Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, its sequel Through the Looking-Glass, which includes the poem Jabberwocky, and the poem The Hunting of the Snark, all examples of the genre of literary nonsense. He is noted for his facility at word play, logic, and fantasy. There are societies in many parts of the world dedicated to the enjoyment and promotion of his works and the investigation of his life.
Dodgson's family was predominantly northern English, with Irish connections, conservative and High Church Anglican. Most of Dodgson's male ancestors were army officers or Church of England clergy. His great-grandfather, also named Charles Dodgson, had risen through the ranks of the church to become the Bishop of Elphin. His paternal grandfather, another Charles, had been an army captain, killed in action in Ireland in 1803 when his two sons were hardly more than babies. The older of these sons – yet another Charles Dodgson – was Carroll's father. He went to Westminster School and then to Christ Church, Oxford. He reverted to the other family tradition and took holy orders. He was mathematically gifted and won a double first degree, which could have been the prelude to a brilliant academic career. Instead, he married his first cousin Frances Jane Lutwidge in 1827 and became a country parson.
Lewis is a crater on the far side of the Moon. It lies along the western edge of the Montes Cordillera mountains that surround the Mare Orientale impact basin. This crater has been heavily disrupted by the formation of the basin, and it is covered by ejecta from the impact leaving only an uneven depression in the surface. The outer rim is roughly circular, and the interior is uneven.
Lewis (First name unknown) was a Major League Baseball player who played in 1890 with the Buffalo Bisons of the Players' League.
Lewis made his major league debut on July 12, 1890, as the starting pitcher for the Bisons in a game against the Brooklyn Ward's Wonders. Lewis gave up six runs in the first inning, six in the second, and eight in the third. After three innings, with Brooklyn leading, 20-4, Buffalo's manager Jack Rowe moved Lewis to left field, and called on left fielder Ed Beecher to pitch the final six innings. In Lewis's three innings as a pitcher, he gave up 20 earned runs, 13 hits, and seven bases on balls. He also collected one hit in five at bats. Brooklyn won the game by a score of 28-16.
According to author Norman L. Macht, the Bisons had been having problems with various pitchers and arrived in Brooklyn on the 12th, "when a local boy, whose last name was Lewis but whose first name remains mercifully unknown" told manager Jack Rowe that he was a pitcher and asked for a tryout. Rowe started Lewis and kept him in the game for three innings, before pulling him in favor of Beecher, who gave up eight more runs. Neither Lewis nor Beecher pitched in another major league game.
Lewis is a British television detective drama produced for ITV. It is a spin-off from Inspector Morse and, like that series, it is set in Oxford. Kevin Whately reprises his character Robert "Robbie" Lewis, who was Morse's sergeant in the original series. Lewis has now been promoted to detective inspector and is assisted by DS James Hathaway, portrayed by Laurence Fox, who became promoted to Inspector in the eighth series airing in 2014. The series also stars Clare Holman as forensic pathologist Dr Laura Hobson, and Angela Griffin as DS Lizzie Maddox.
On 2 November 2015, ITV announced that the show would end after its ninth series, following the decision made by Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox to retire from their roles in the series. Whately announced that the show had gone on long enough, with his character having done many stories between Morse and Lewis after he took on the role 30 years ago.
Roland (Frankish: Hruodland) (died 15 August 778) was a Frankish military leader under Charlemagne who became one of the principal figures in the literary cycle known as the Matter of France. The historical Roland was military governor of the Breton March, responsible for defending Francia's frontier against the Bretons. His only historical attestation is in Einhard's Vita Karoli Magni, which notes he was part of the Frankish rearguard killed by rebellious Basques in Iberia at the Battle of Roncevaux Pass.
The story of Roland's death at Roncevaux Pass was embellished in later medieval and Renaissance literature. He became the chief paladin of the emperor Charlemagne and a central figure in the legendary material surrounding him, collectively known as the Matter of France. The first and most famous of these epic treatments was the Old French Chanson de Roland of the eleventh century.
Two masterpieces of Italian Renaissance poetry, the Orlando innamorato and Orlando furioso, are even further detached from history than the earlier Chansons. Roland is poetically associated with his sword Durendal, his horse Veillantif, and his oliphant horn.
Borderlands is an action role-playing first-person shooter video game that was developed by Gearbox Software for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. It is the first game in the Borderlands series. The game was released worldwide in October 2009, with the Mac OS X version of being released on December 3, 2010 by Feral Interactive.
A sequel, Borderlands 2, was released worldwide in September 2012.
Borderlands includes character-building elements found in role-playing games, leading Gearbox to call the game a "role-playing shooter". At the start of the game, players select one of four characters, each with a unique special skill and with proficiencies with certain weapons. The four characters are: Roland the Soldier, Mordecai the Hunter, Lilith the Siren, and Brick the Berserker. From then on, players take on missions assigned through non-player characters or from bounty boards, each typically rewarding the player with experience points, money, and sometimes a reward item. Players earn experience by killing both human and non-human foes and completing in-game challenges (such as getting a certain number of kills using a specific type of weapon). As they gain levels from experience growth, players can then allocate skill points into a skill tree that features three distinct specializations of the base character; for example, Mordecai can become specialized in sniping, gunslinging with revolvers, or using his pet Bloodwing to assist in kills and health boosting. Players can distribute points among any of the specializations, and can also spend a small amount of in-game money to redistribute their skill points.
The Roland was an express train that ran in Germany. For part of its existence, it was also an international train. Introduced in 1939, suspended during World War II, and reintroduced in 1952, it was operated in Germany by the Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft (DRG), the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) and the Deutsche Bahn (DB), respectively.
When running internationally, the train was also operated by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB-CFF-FFS); between 1969 and 1979 its operators included the Italian State Railways (FS).
The train was named after the statue of Roland that was erected in the market square (Rathausplatz) of Bremen, Germany, in 1404 and has since become a symbol of that city. The Roland depicted in the statue was a Frankish military leader under Charlemagne.
Over the years, the termini, route, classification and formation (consist) of the Roland varied significantly. However, in view of the train's name the route always included Bremen Hbf, in Bremen. When introduced in 1939, the Roland was a Fernschnellzug (FD). After its post-war revival in 1952, it ran as a Schnellzug (D). After about 1956, it was a first-class-only F-Zug.

Ouch. Hopefully he's alright. #MLB #RoyceLewis #MINTwins
Royce Lewis, a top prospect for the Minnesota Twins, has not had a lot of luck on his side during his short MLB career. Last year during his rookie season, Royce would collide with the wall in center while making a catch. Resulting in his 2nd ACL tear in a 15-month span, requiring surgery, putting him out for the rest of last season. Now in 2023, just a week back onto the roster, Lewis would try to beat a throw to first against the Guardians and Royce would try to jump over the first baseman and dangerously land on his neck, creating a very scary moment. Luckily Lewis would come to his feet and be deemed ok besides some bruising. CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2PthUAyBWeUpYPOo4tHNyw?sub_confirmation=1
The Minnesota Twins set a franchise record by homering in a 20-consecutive games and picked up a victory over Tarik Skubal and the Tigers, but it appears they may be without Royce Lewis for at least a little bit. Lewis suffered a groin injury and told reporters he wasn't optimistic about avoiding the IL. Players featured in tonight's recap include Manuel Margot, Carlos Correa, Byron Buxton, Simeon Woods Richardson, Jhoan Duran, Brooks Lee, Andrew Morris, Walker Jenkins and more.
