Leon Russell (born Claude Russell Bridges, April 2, 1942) is an American musician and songwriter, who has recorded as a session musician, sideman, and maintained a solo career in music.
Born in Lawton, Oklahoma, United States, Russell began playing piano at the age of four. He attended Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Also at Will Rogers High School were Anita Bryant, who was one year older, and in the same 1959 class, David Gates. Russell and Gates played and recorded together as the Fencement. A few years younger, also at Will Rogers, was Elvin Bishop. At this time Russell was already performing at Tulsa nightclubs. After moving to Los Angeles, he became a session musician, working as a pianist on the recordings of many notable musical artists from the 1960s. By the late 1960s, Russell diversified, becoming successful as an arranger and songwriter. As a musician, he worked his way up from gigs as a sideman to well-known performers. By 1970, he had graduated to solo recording artist, although he never ended his previous roles within the music industry. After performing country music under the name Hank Wilson in the 1970s and 1980s, Russell had largely faded into obscurity. He re-emerged in 2010 when Elton John called on him to record an album that became The Union. The album brought renewed popularity to Russell who has since released a solo album and toured around the world.
Leon Russell is the debut solo album, and third album overall, by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Leon Russell. It followed his debut with the Midnight String Quartet, and a production by Russell and Marc Benno billed as the Asylum Choir.
All tracks composed by Leon Russell, except where indicated.
The CD re-issue contains the following bonus tracks:
"A Song for You" is a song written and originally recorded by rock singer and pianist Leon Russell for his first solo album Leon Russell, which was released in 1970 on Shelter Records. A slow, pained plea for forgiveness and understanding from an estranged lover, the tune is one of Russell's best-known compositions. It has been performed and recorded by an array of artists, spanning many musical genres. Elton John has called the song an American classic.
One of the first versions of the song that brought it broader attention was by Andy Williams, whose single peaked at #29 on the adult contemporary chart and #82 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971.

Six by Seven (also written as SIX.BY SEVEN or six.by seven or six.byseven) are a Nottingham-based indie rock band who originally consisted of Chris Olley on vocals and guitars, James Flower on keyboards, Sam Hempton on guitar, Paul Douglas on bass and Chris Davis on drums. Exponents of building, atmospheric drone-rock, influenced heavily by bands such as My Bloody Valentine and Spacemen 3 they found a niche in the industry with a considerable underground following, but despite some attempts to commercialise their sound, this never crossed over into mainstream success. After splitting up in 2008, the band reformed in 2012 with Olley and Flower the only original members.
The group formed in Nottingham in 1996 after having played initially under the name "Friends Of..." since their first gig at the Old Angel in Nottingham in late 1992. After recording several demos and playing gigs, the band attracted record company interest, and played to a room full of A&R men in Leicester's Charlotte. The room emptied before the first 15-minute song was complete. Undeterred, the band continued to write and record. Bass player Paul Douglas joined later that year.
For You is the debut studio album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on April 7, 1978 by Warner Bros. Records.

Another excerpt from the 1971 "Homewood Sessions" featuring Leon Russell and a few good friends such as Don Nix and Furry Lewis. Furry can be seen several times throughout the video. Before sending demo tapes to Denny Cordell and signing with Denny and Leon Russell's Shelter Records in February 1973, Mary McCreary had been in a Gospel trio called The Heavenly Tones in 1966 with high school friends Vaetta Stewart and Tramaine Hawkins. Vaetta's older brother, Sylvester Stewart, started the group Sly and the Family Stone and had The Heavenly Tones change their name to Little Sister and become his backing chorus. Hawkins was replaced with Elva "Tiny" Mouton. Sly began his own label Stone Flower and among its releases were two singles by Little Sister. Here is Sly's song "Somebody's Watching You" on a late 1970 single by Little Sister. Mary recorded solo albums for Shelter, became Mrs. Leon Russell and recorded albums with him and solo as Mary Russell, then divorced him...

I will gather stars out of the blue,
For you, for you . . .
I'll make a string of pearls out of the dew,
For you, for you . . .
Over the highway and over the street,
Carpets of clover I'll lay at your feet . . .
Oh, there's nothing in this world I wouldn't do,
For you, for you . . .
< instrumental verse >
Over the highway and over the street,
Carpets of clover I will lay at your feet . . .
Oh, there's nothing in this world I wouldn't do,
For you, for you . . .
