If you swimming or fishing in clean lake water unpleasant incident might happen to you. Leeches... How do you handle a leech? How to remove leeches and take care of the bites.
If you swimming or fishing in clean water lake,, unpleasant incident might happen to you. Like the one happened to me, when I was fishing on one of the northern Ontario lake. After standing for about an hour in the water I noticed a few leeches attached to my legs just below knees. I have started panicking and crying. I really didn’t feel anything when it was happening. Panic attack is not a very good friend in this specific situation. To pul leeches attached to your body stupid and dangerous behaviour. Not just because it is painful, but because by pulling leeches jaws from the wound can cause leech to spit out some amount of blood back to your wound and cause contamination with some bacteria and viruses that can present in the body of leech from previous host animal or human.
If your have been under leeches attack it worth to check every inch of the body that was exposed to water infested with leeches. Leeches can easily get under the clothes or into the shoes. Leech normally stay attached for around 20 minutes to an hour and uptakes up to 15 ml of blood. After they done feeding they will fell out on their own. They have anaesthetic component in their saliva and anticoagulant hirudin, platelets aggregation inhibitors. That is why their bites is almost unnoticeable or slightly painful. Macrobdella decora or North America medical leech has 3 sharp saw like jaws and 100 sharp teeth leaving Y shaped mark after bite. Medical leeches are used for centuries to treat different diseases like thrombophlebitis, hypertension, varicose vein, skin inflammation and other condition. Medical leeches was a part of illegal wild animal trade in last century that bring their existing status of conservation in Europe to near- threatened species . Medical leeches prefer clean water, grassy, shallow lakes and can survive between feeding up to a year. They can loose up to 90% of their body weight and still survive. After feeding they can increase their body weight 10 times. FDA approved leech therapy as a good medical device in 2004.

How do LEECH suck Blood? #shorts
Ayurveda has explained Leech therapy, where a leech sucks your blood to cure infections. But are you aware of how a leech actually sucks your blood? Double-tap the screen to understand the process.
A leech uses its head and the sucker present on its tail to stick to a host. After sticking to the host, i.e., you, it releases an anesthetic liquid on your skin, which numbs your skin. Now it uses the 3 sharp jaws present on its head to bite you and you don't feel that bite.
After inserting its jaws into the upper layer of your skin, the leech releases a protein liquid(Hirudin) from its saliva glands. This protein prevents blood clotting in your blood, and because of this, it becomes really easy for the leech to suck your blood using rhythmic movements of its body muscles and store it in its digestive tract. After consuming around 5-15ml of your blood, the leech leaves your skin. Now, this leech could survive for 6 to 9 months with this much blood.
