Lech-Lecha, Lekh-Lekha, or Lech-L'cha (לֶךְ-לְךָleḵ-ləḵā – Hebrew for "go!" or "leave!", literally "go for you" – the fifth and sixth words in the parashah) is the third weekly Torah portion (פָּרָשָׁה, parashah) in the annual Jewish cycle of Torah reading. It constitutes Genesis12:1–17:27. The parashah is made up of 6,336 Hebrew letters, 1,686 Hebrew words, and 126 verses, and can occupy about 208 lines in a Torah Scroll (סֵפֶר תּוֹרָה, Sefer Torah).Jews read it on the third Sabbath after Simchat Torah, in October or November.
In traditional Sabbath Torah reading, the parashah is divided into seven readings, or עליות, aliyot. In the Masoretic Text of the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible), Parashah Lech-Lecha has three "open portion" (פתוחה, petuchah) divisions (roughly equivalent to paragraphs, often abbreviated with the Hebrew letter פ (peh)). Parashah Lech-Lecha has several further subdivisions, called "closed portion" (סתומה, setumah) divisions (abbreviated with the Hebrew letter ס (samekh)) within the open portion (פתוחה, petuchah) divisions. The first open portion (פתוחה, petuchah) divides the first reading (עליה, aliyah). The second open portion (פתוחה, petuchah), covers the balance of the first and all of the second and third readings (עליות, aliyot). The third open portion (פתוחה, petuchah) spans the remaining readings (עליות, aliyot). Closed portion (סתומה, setumah) divisions further divide the fifth and sixth readings (עליות, aliyot).

Parashat Lech Lecha 5783: Who was Abraham?
Abraham was the first of the true believers, an iconoclast who stood alone against the entire world, proclaiming that there is only One God. He had no teacher – what was the source of his inspiration and courage? Why is he the only personality in the Bible whom God calls ‘My love?’
The Torah portion of Lech Lecha (Gen. 12:1 - 17 : 27) is read on Shabbat, MarCheshvan 11, 5783 – November 5, 2022

Parshat Lech Lecha: Was Abraham The First Wandering Jew?
Check out more Torah videos at https://www.alephbeta.org/
In the video for Parshat Lech Lecha (Genesis 12:1-17:27), David and Immanuel ask - why is it that, though God keeps reassuring Abraham that this land is his, he refuses to settle down? God just promised him the land - why wouldn't he mark his territory? To answer this, we are reminded that the stories of Abraham occur in a larger context - and specifically, right after the catastrophe of the Tower of Babel - and we can answer the question: what is it about Abraham that really makes him special, and the father of our nation?

ולזרעך עד עולם
Abraham was the first of the true believers, an iconoclast who stood alone against the entire world, proclaiming that there is only One God. He had no teacher – what was the source of his inspiration and courage? Why is he the only personality in the Bible whom God calls ‘My love?’
The Torah portion of Lech Lecha (Gen. 12:1 - 17 : 27) is read on Shabbat, MarCheshvan 11, 5783 – November 5, 2022

An uplifting, bewitching song from Stereo Sinai, written from Sarah's point of view. It's a music video set in the ancient world, and we can't get it out of our heads.

You may know the word "brit" from the "bris" ritual but the word actually means covenant. Learn about the Brit Bein HaBetarim, or the covenant between the parts, as described in Parshat Lech Lecha. Written and narrated by Emily Shapiro Katz, a creative Jewish educator in Beer Sheva, Israel.
