Last Night on Earth is the third studio album by the English indie folk band Noah and the Whale. It was released on 7 March 2011 on Mercury Records. It peaked to number 8 on the UK Albums Chart. The first single from the album was "L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.", and the song "Wild Thing" is available to download for free from their website.
Background
Following The First Days of Spring (2009), the band's original drummer, Doug Fink, left to complete his medical training. The group's new addition, Michael Petulla, was found via online classifiedGumtree. Bassist Matt Owens and guitarist Fred Abbott auditioned upwards of 100 drummers and eventually narrowed it down to 10, from which point the band rehearsed with each to see which was the best fit. Petulla, the last auditionee of the day, was picked. The band first began recording Last Night on Earth in 2010 at Bethnal Green Great Synagogue in London, but the band eventually needed a change in scenery and moved to Los Angeles to work with producer Jason Lader. The band started at the synagogue due its spacious sound, but ended up working was Lader based off his work with Jay-Z and Julian Casablancas.
"Last Night on Earth" is the third single from U2's 1997 album, Pop. The song features excerpts from "Trayra Boia," written by Naná Vasconcelos and Denise Milan.
History
"Last Night on Earth" was first written during the Zooropa sessions as documented by rock DJ / journalist BP Fallon in his book U2 Faraway So Close. but was put aside until a later date, then when the band started work on Pop sessions which took place from 1995 to early 1997 they dug it up again. Assuming they had plenty of time to finish recording the songs for the album, the band told manager Paul McGuinness to go ahead and book their PopMart Tour, which was to begin in later April 1997. As time got closer and closer to the start of the tour, the band began running out of time to finish recording the album, which was to be released that March. The band immediately regretted their decision to let McGuinness book the tour, and had to rush their recording sessions to release the album in time. "Last Night on Earth" was one of the last songs to be recorded for the album. As the band and their associates had been working up until the last minute to finish recording and mixing the album, Bono did not come up with the song's chorus until four o'clock in the morning during the last night in the studio. After being up all night, Bono began singing the line "You've got to give it away," and decided to use it as part of the song's chorus. Once the chorus has been written, it needed to be recorded immediately, however Bono had completely lost his voice at the time, so echoes were added to his voice, as well as backing vocals by the Edge.
Set in Toronto at an unknown date, Last Night tells the story of how a variety of intersecting characters spend their final evening on Earth. It seems the world is to end at midnight as the result of a calamity that is not explained, but which has been expected for several months. There are several scenes of an ominously glowing sun, which gets progressively larger and brighter even into the night.
Some people in the film choose to spend their last evening alone, others with loved ones, others in prayer, others in public mayhem, and still others at raucous festivities. Duncan (David Cronenberg), the owner of a power company, spends the majority of his final day calling up every single one of his customers to reassure them that their heating gas will be kept on until the very end. Meanwhile, his wife Sandra (Sandra Oh) prepares to fulfill their suicide pact when she becomes stranded with a depressed widower Patrick (Don McKellar) preparing to die while listening to music and drinking wine on his roof, surrounded by mementoes of his recently deceased wife. The widower's best friend Craig (Callum Keith Rennie) participates in a nearly non-stop sex marathon as he attempts to fulfill every fantasy he has ever had, at one point awkwardly asking Patrick to join him. Sarah Polley appears as Patrick's sister Jennifer; their family chooses to have a final meal together although he leaves prematurely to seek his own finale. Jackie Burroughs makes an appearance as an apparently mentally disturbed woman who jogs around announcing how much time is left before the end. Arsinée Khanjian also appears as a mother on an abandoned streetcar who is paralyzed by despair.
Last Night is the eighth album by American electronica musician Moby, released in March 2008 by record label Mute. It is a more dance-oriented affair than Moby's previous few albums.
Recording and content
The album was recorded in Moby's home studio in Manhattan, New York and features a number of guest vocalists, including Wendy Starland, MC Grandmaster Caz (one of the writers of "Rapper's Delight", which boosted the popularity of sampling, a common method to make the music on Moby's 1999 blockbuster Play), Sylvia from the band Kudu, British MC Aynzli, and the Nigerian 419 Squad.
On his official website, Moby stated that this album is "a lot more dance-oriented and electronic than my last few albums, probably as a result of all of the DJ'ing I've been doing lately". He also wrote that:
Promotion and release
"Disco Lies" was released as a single on January 21, 2008. The second single, "Alice", was released on March 10.
Last Night was released on March 29 by record label Mute.
"Last Night" is a song by American rapper Diddy that is a single featured on his fourth studio album, Press Play. The song features American R&B singer-songwriter Keyshia Cole. The radio edit version of the song is featured on Cole's second studio album, Just like You.
Part of the recording session was shown on Cole's reality show, Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is, on BET in July 2006. The making of the video was shown on BET's "Access Granted" on January 31, 2007.
Background
The song has an '80s-styled beat. The song samples the drumbeat of Prince's "Erotic City", but slightly modified to increase the bass. During BET's Access Granted, Diddy brought up the fact that Keyshia re-recorded her parts multiple times, and the two had many artistic differences on the song. The recording of the song was featured on Keyshia Cole's reality show The Way It Is. On the album version of the song, Diddy is heard talking on the phone using a lot of explicit words at the end. The radio version of the song fades out before the phone dials, while the clean album version of the song still has this part only with the explicit words censored out.
Night on Earth is a 1991 film written and directed by Jim Jarmusch. It is a collection of five vignettes, taking place during the same night, concerning the temporary bond formed between taxi driver and passenger in five cities: Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Rome, and Helsinki. Jarmusch wrote the screenplay in about eight days, and the choice of certain cities was largely based on the actors with whom he wanted to work. The soundtrack of the same name is by Tom Waits.
Plot
Los Angeles
As evening falls, tomboy cabby Corky (Winona Ryder) picks up Hollywood executive Victoria Snelling (Gena Rowlands) from the airport, and as Corky drives, Victoria tries to conduct business over the phone. Despite their extreme differences socially, the two develop a certain connection. Sometime during the ride Victoria, who is evidently a talent scout or casting director, discovers that Corky would be ideal for a part in a movie she is casting, but Corky rejects the offer, as she has plans to become a mechanic.
Night on Earth is the third and latest release by the black metal band Dawn of Relic. It was released in 2005 on Season of Mist records, and was re-issued again in 2006 and 2008.

Well you used to be somebody and now you're someone else Took apart his own life, left it on the shelf Sick of being someone he did not admire Took apart his old things, set them all on fire He's gonna change, gonna change his ways Gonna change, gonna change his ways And it feels like his new life can start And it feels like heaven Left his house at midnight, resolute and young In search of something better than the person he'd become Threw his bags onto the back of his run down 80's car Headed out to God knows where, the distance is too far He's gonna change, gonna change his ways Gonna change, gonna change his ways And it feels like his new life can start And it feels like heaven And it feels like his new life can start And it feels like heaven Your life is your life, you gotta live like it's your life Your life is your life, you gotta live like it's your life Your life is your life, you gotta live like it's your life Your life is your life, you gotta live like it's your life And it feels like his new life can start And it feels like heaven And it feels like his new life can start And it feels like heaven And it feels like his new life can start And it feels like heaven And it feels like his new life can start And it feels like heaven
