Lancia 037 Group B Represents Last Era of Racing Romance
Imagine yourself in Lancia’s position in the early 1980s. Your Stratos has recently won three consecutive World Rally Championships (1974-76) but you can see the writing on the wall, writing which reads “all-wheel-drive.” How do you build on this past success and continue to be competitive in the new decade? For Lancia, the answer was the 037, which would ultimately become, in 1983, the last rear-wheel-drive car to win the WRC Manufacturers' Championship before AWD competitors like the Audi Quattro and Peugeot 205 T16 completely changed the sport forever.
To compete in Group B events, Lancia was obliged to meet homologation rules by producing 200 street versions of the 037. While visually striking and invigorating to drive, the 037 Stradale remains, at heart, a race car and is thus anythi...

Driving the Kimera EVO37: The Group B Restomod | Henry Catchpole - The Driver’s Seat
Henry Catchpole is a rallying fan through and through, so driving and reviewing Kimera’s rally-inspired restomod, based on the legendary Group B Lancia 037, is a pretty good day in the office for him. Throw in some amazing mountain roads, a race track and the odd Martini livery and you have all the ingredients for something truly memorable
The Kimera EVO37 is the brainchild of Luca Betti and it combines the looks and layout of the 037 with an engine that takes inspiration from the Lancia Delta S4. The amazing little 2.1-litre four cylinder engine that sits behind the driver is both supercharged and turbocharged. It has been engineered by Italtecnica in Turin and in its most powerful map puts out 505bhp and 442lb ft of torque. That’s pretty wild in a car that weighs less than 1100kg or 240...

I was lucky enough to get a ride in the new EVO37 with the founder & CEO of Kimera Automobili, Luca Betti, during the Passione Engadina Event in Switzerland. The car features a turbo AND supercharged 4 cylinder engine with 505 HP, while just weighing around 1 ton!
Huge thanks to Luca and the other owners/drivers, who made this weekend unforgettable!

Lancia 037 Group-B '83 WRC winning car & Beta VX on-road review. Greatest supercharged Lancias ever
The Lancia Beta Volumex and the Lancia 037 Group B car from the eighties both share the same 2-litre, twin-cam supercharged engine but in different states of tune. Here, I review the Beta Volumex and then compare it to the Lancia 037 Group B car that Walter Röhrl drove to victory in the 1983 World Rally Championship.

To compete in Group B events, Lancia was obliged to meet homologation rules by producing 200 street versions of the 037. While visually striking and invigorating to drive, the 037 Stradale remains, at heart, a race car and is thus anything but comfortable. This, however, is precisely what appeals to owner Philip Toledano, who grew up watching Lancia–more specifically, the Stratos and 037–dominate European rally racing.
“It’s not like [the 037] was just a sports car designed for people who wanted to go fast,” says Phil. “This was designed for a purpose, and I love things that were designed specifically for a purpose, like a tool–except it's a fast tool that scares the crap out of you.”
The interior of the 037 Stradale belies the car’s racing heritage: the dash contains a circuit board, conveniently located for periodic resets by the navigator; a navigator’s light stands at the ready; and the oil temperature gauge is located on the far right side of the dash, in front of the navigator’s seat. The 037's exterior is similarly eye-catching. Sporting a Pininfarina body and a 2.0 liter, supercharged Abarth engine that, as Phil puts it, makes Star Wars-like noises as he revs through the gears, the car attracts onlookers wherever it goes.
Usually, however, this 037 is but a screaming red blur, leaving those onlookers little time to realize what they’ve just seen.

That’s pretty wild in a car that weighs less than 1100kg or 2400lb.
As with most restomods, like those from Singer, Alfaholics and Eagle, the Kimera is a very analogue driving experience. To that end, there is a manual six-speed gearbox from Graziano, which has also featured in the Lamborghini Gallardo and Audi R8 over the years. What differentiates the EVO37 from other restomods is its very distinct rally persona. You can see this in the twin Ohlins dampers at the rear, but you can feel it straight away on the move through the steering and the way it soaks up bumps and tackles corners.
In the film we cover a lot of ground, starting at the beautiful Villa Kimera just outside Cuneo in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. Here we interview Luca Betti and discover the genesis of both the company name and the EVO37. Then we head to the beautiful Colle della Maddalena and its profusion of spectacular hairpins to drive the car on the road. Then it’s off to Turin for a visit to Italtecnica where the engine is built, before we pop over to Martini for a look at the latest, limited edition Kimera. Finally we stop off at a fun little race track to drive Kimera’s development car with shorter gearing and more power.
We hope you enjoy the film and Glenn Winhall’s superb editing and filming (aided on this occasion by Nick Wilkinson). Please do give it a thumbs up and share it with anyone else who you think might enjoy it - it really helps us to keep making content like this on the Hagerty channel.

NEW Reborn Lancia Rally 037 Group B Restomod // World Exclusive 1st drive Review.
The 80s are back in this episode, when Jonny Smith returns to Maturo Competition Cars in The Netherlands (where he drove the incredible Restomod Delta Integrale) to get the keys to their recreation Lancia 037 WRC car.
Available to order, this reborn 037 uses the same 2.0 Lampredi 16v twin cam Volumex supercharged mid-engined layout as the original, but has been built better and safer for historic rally or road fun.
