DeLonghi Dedica Disambiguation: EC680, EC685, EC785, EC885
What's the difference between the various DeLonghi Dedica models? There is the EC680, EC685, EC785 and now the EC885. What gives? The Dedica has been around since 2013, originally released (and still being sold) as the EC 680. Since then, we have seen three newer models released, including the EC 685, the EC 785, and most recently the EC 885. Let us take a look at these different models, and their commonalities and differences. With this video, I hope to help decode the differences, and help buyers make their decision.

Disambiguation, In-Jokes, and Name Collisions: What You Need to Know When Naming a Python Project
Thursday Bram
https://2018.northbaypython.org/schedule/presentation/15/
This talk covers key issues Python programmers run into when naming new projects. We'll go over the following:
* Commonly used naming schemas in the Python community
* Current and past project names (including those that many newcomers to Python struggle with)
* Techniques to avoid similar confusion in the future (covering both name selection and documentation)
We'll even talk about Monty Python and its long-term impact on the Python programming language.

Evaluating Automated and Hybrid Neural Disambiguation for African Historical Named Entities
Evaluating Automated and Hybrid Neural Disambiguation for African Historical Named Entities

Documents detailing African history contain ambiguous names. This is due to people having the same name or being referred to by multiple different names. This problem may be alleviated by using a Named Entity Disambiguation (NED) system to disambiguate names by linking names to a knowledge base. In recent years language models (LMs) such as BERT have led to improvements in NED systems. Disambiguation of Imprecise Input with One-dimensional Rotational Text Entry
Authors:
Will Walmsley, W. Xavier Snelgrove, Khai N Truong
Abstract:
We introduce a distinction between disambiguation supporting continuous vs. discrete ambiguous text entry. With continuous ambiguous text entry methods, letter selections are treated as ambiguous due to expected imprecision rather than due to discretized letter groupings. We investigate the simple case of a one-dimensional character layout to demonstrate the potential of techniques designed for imprecise entry. Our rotation-based sight-free technique, Rotext, maps device orientation to a layout optimized for disambiguation, motor efficiency, and learnability. We also present an audio feedback system for efficient selection of d...

Natural Language Processing (NLP): Automatic generation of questions and answers from Wikipedia
Presentation by Catherine Henry (2017 Clearwater DevCon).
When teaching a subject through text it can be beneficial to evaluate the reader’s understanding; however, the creation of relevant questions and answers can be time-consuming and tedious. I will walk through how the implementation of NLP libraries and algorithms can assist in, and potentially remove altogether, the current necessity of an individual manually formulating these tests.

Art game (disambiguation) | Wikipedia audio article
This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_game_(disambiguation)
Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

Evaluating Automated and Hybrid Neural Disambiguation for African Historical Named Entities
By Jarryd Dunn
Documents detailing African history contain ambiguous names. This is due to people having the same name or being referred to by multiple different names. Thus when searching for or attempting to extract information about a particular person, the name used may significantly alter the results. This problem may be alleviated by using a Named Entity Disambiguation (NED) system to disambiguate names by linking names to a knowledge base. In recent years language models (LMs) such as BERT have led to improvements in NED systems. This project seeks to examine the effectiveness of using a language model-based NED system to disambiguate people's names. However, these systems require extensive annotated domain-specific data for training, often not available when dealing with historical African documents. Thus the model will be augmented with hand-crafted rules and annotated data to achieve a higher degree of accuracy. The NED models will be evaluated using the F1 score over 10-fold cross-validation. The LM-based NED systems will be compared with a simple probabilistic baseline to benchmark their performances. Finally, the effectiveness of the hand-crafted resources' will be evaluated based on the changes in performance compared to the system without any hand-crafted resources.

We also present an audio feedback system for efficient selection of disambiguated word candidates, and explore the role that time spent acknowledging word-level feedback plays in text entry performance. Through a user study, we show that despite missing on average by 2.46--2.92 character positions, with the aid of a maximum a posteriori (MAP) disambiguation algorithm, users can average sight-free entry speed of 12.6 wpm with 98.9% accuracy within 13 sessions (4.3 hours). In a second study, expert users are found to reach 21 wpm with 99.6% accuracy after session 20 (6.7 hours) and continue to grow in performance, with individual phrases entered at up to 37 wpm. A final study revisits the learnability of the optimized layout. Our modelling of ultimate performance indicates maximum overall sight-free entry speeds of 29.0 wpm with audio feedback, or 40.7 wpm if an expert user could operate without relying on audio feedback.

I bet you've heard of the Eureka MIGNON SPECIALITA', as one of the best bang for your buck home espresso grinders. Today, we take a look at this quiet, powerful, and capable grinder, hailing from Florence, Italy, where it was designed and built. We talk about grinder build quality, coffee grinds quality, retention, ease of use, and more. This is a long review in coming, after owing this delightful little 55mm burr grinder for more than 3 years, although I will try to hold it on the shorter side.
