Koine Greek (UK English /ˈkɔɪniː/, US English /kɔɪˈneɪ/, /ˈkɔɪneɪ/ or /kiːˈniː/; from Koine Greek ἡ κοινὴ διάλεκτος, "the common dialect"), also known as Alexandrian dialect, common Attic or Hellenistic Greek (Modern GreekΕλληνιστική Κοινή, "Hellenistic Koiné", in the sense of "Hellenistic supraregional language"), was the common supra-regional form of Greek spoken and written during Hellenistic and Roman antiquity. It developed through the spread of Greek following the conquests of Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC, and served as the common lingua franca of much of the Mediterranean region and the Middle East during the following centuries. It was based mainly on Attic and related Ionic speech forms, with various admixtures brought about through dialect levelling with other varieties.
Koine Greek displayed a wide spectrum of different styles, ranging from more conservative literary forms to the spoken vernaculars of the time. As the dominant language of the Byzantine Empire it developed further into Medieval Greek, the main ancestor of Modern Greek.

Koine Greek: What is it? Where did it come from? And who should learn it?
Koine Greek, sometimes referred to as biblical Greek is the language throughout the Greco-Roman world from around the time of Alexander the Great through to the division of the Roman Empire in the 4th century AD. Koine Greek is different to Classical Greek, and strictly speaking isn't quite Attic Greek, though there are overlaps. In this video, we'll answer the question, "what is koine Greek?" and consider some of its history and how it is different from other ancient Greek forms.
You'll find some of this information in Rodney Decker's Reading Koine Greek.

Will MODERN GREEK Help You Learn Koine?
Geoffrey Horrocks writes (2010: 87), "It is clear that many of the (rural) spoken dialects of modern Greek...descend ultimately from regional forms of the Koine that first emerged during the Hellenistic and Roman periods."
But will Modern Greek help you with Koine? Check out this video to hear my thoughts.

Biblical Greek grammar: Why this is the best I've found yet for learning NT Greek
I think I found my favorite biblical Greek grammar - at least for beginning Greek. There are a number of reasons why Rodney Decker's grammar is a strong candidate for the best grammar available today if you want to learn NT Greek. In this video, I'll share with you why I love this grammar, what is unique about its approach and why you shouldn't be scared off by its size. But it's not perfect and toward the end of the video, I'll share with you the minor changes I would make if this was my grammar.

How do we know how Koine Greek was pronounced?: Pronunciation of Koine/Biblical Greek in 2 minutes!
In this video, I attempt to explain how scholars reconstruct the pronunciation of Koine / Biblical Greek based on the evidence from manuscripts, papyri, and inscriptions. This video is not meant to explain all the details of how Koine Greek was pronounced, but rather HOW WE KNOW how Koine Greek was pronounced and how researchers go about answering that question.

What does the Greek community on YouTube like and not like watching? I took a look at my stats from I the first 100 videos on this channel and in this video I’ll share it you what I discovered. In short there are two types of content on this channel that are more popular than other types of content. I’ll also reveal the content you don’t like and why I keep making it anyway. Finally, if you want to support the work I do, in this video I’ll reveal two new ways you can do so.

For in-depth resources (including one I've written based on primary research) on Koine Greek pronunciation explaining each of the spelling interchanges and what it says about how and when pronunciation changed in the history of Greek, visit: https://www.KaineDiatheke.com/koine-pronunciation
In this installment of the Koine Greek Video Blog, we sit down for a conversation with Dr. Jordash Kiffiak (Ἰσοκράτης), an excellent scholar, teacher, and good friend of mine.
