A klippe (German for cliff or crag) is a geological feature of thrust fault terrains. The klippe is the remnant portion of a nappe after erosion has removed connecting portions of the nappe. This process results in an outlier of exotic, often nearly horizontally translated strata overlying autochthonous strata. Examples of klippes include:
A klippe is a square coin minted on more easily produced square flans either using round or square dies. These coins were originally issued under unfavourable conditions, such as a city under siege. Such emergency coinage were issued in Vienna in 1529, while the city was besieged by the troops of the Ottoman Empire. However, by the seventeenth century, klippe were also commonly produced as presentation pieces. As well, some klippe coins were made as a regular strikes, such as the many variations of the city of Salzburg in Austria, where klippe coins were made in silver and gold for many centuries.

Spanish Colonial 8 Reales Cortada "Klippe" Macro.
Macro video of Mexico Mint: 8 Reales, 1734/3 Cortada and or "Klippe" of Philip V. Note the die rotation, seen as Lions over sideways castles and Castles over sideways lions on the reverse. The only specimen I have ever seen like it. Pretty neat. More on this type of coinage down the road. For this video, just a macro examination.
Will probably get a lot of thumbs down for it. But. I don't care.
