Oak

An oak is a tree or shrub in the genus Quercus (/ˈkwɜːrkəs/;Latin "oak tree") of the beech family, Fagaceae. There are approximately 600 extant species of oaks. The common name "oak" may also appear in the names of species in related genera, notably Lithocarpus. The genus is native to the Northern Hemisphere, and includes deciduous and evergreen species extending from cool temperate to tropical latitudes in the Americas, Asia, Europe, and North Africa. North America contains the largest number of oak species, with approximately 90 occurring in the United States. Mexico has 160 species, of which 109 are endemic. The second greatest center of oak diversity is China, which contains approximately 100 species.

Oaks have spirally arranged leaves, with lobate margins in many species; some have serrated leaves or entire leaves with smooth margins. Many deciduous species are marcescent, not dropping dead leaves until spring. In spring, a single oak tree produces both male flowers (in the form of catkins) and small female flowers. The fruit is a nut called an acorn, borne in a cup-like structure known as a cupule; each acorn contains one seed (rarely two or three) and takes 6–18 months to mature, depending on species. The live oaks are distinguished for being evergreen, but are not actually a distinct group and instead are dispersed across the genus.

Oak was a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's North Side Main Line, which is now part of the Brown Line. The station was located at 319 W. Oak Street in the Near North Side neighborhood of Chicago. Oak was situated south of Division, which closed at the same time as Oak, and north of Chicago. Oak opened in 1906 and closed on August 1, 1949, along with 22 other stations as part of a CTA service revision.

In Euclidean geometry, a kite is a quadrilateral whose four sides can be grouped into two pairs of equal-length sides that are adjacent to each other. In contrast, a parallelogram also has two pairs of equal-length sides, but they are opposite to each other rather than adjacent. Kite quadrilaterals are named for the wind-blown, flying kites, which often have this shape and which are in turn named for a bird. Kites are also known as deltoids, but the word "deltoid" may also refer to a deltoid curve, an unrelated geometric object.

A kite, as defined above, may be either convex or concave, but the word "kite" is often restricted to the convex variety. A concave kite is sometimes called a "dart" or "arrowhead", and is a type of pseudotriangle.

Special cases

If all four sides of a kite have the same length (that is, if the kite is equilateral), it must be a rhombus.

If a kite is equiangular, meaning that all four of its angles are equal, then it must also be equilateral and thus a square. A kite with three equal 108° angles and one 36° angle forms the convex hull of the lute of Pythagoras.

This is a sequel to the video our good friend Josh recorded back in 2019, which can be found here: https://youtu.be/O7m2q7mjFSI The CTA's Blue Line has been talked about a whole lot lately by many transit advocates across the city. In light of a pandemic and many issues the city and the CTA are facing, there have been a number of growing problems affecting our transit system in recent months. Two of those are ridership and staff shortages. Ridership is indeed increasing as people are coming back to using public transit. But due to staffing shortages caused by a city-mandated vaccine requirement for city workers and safety concerns, the whole rail and bus system has been deemed unreliable by the general public. Currently across the 'L' network, the train schedules have been modified to "reflect" the current number of operators CTA has available. This was heavily suggested by a group by the name of "Commuters Take Action", which are known for calling out the CTA for "ghost trains" and "inaccurate train trackers". Their claim is because the trackers are programmed to display both scheduled and live runs. They claim the scheduled runs that aren't filled due to any sort of manpower absence are "ghost trains". As a result, service has worsened rather than improved with trains scheduled to run every 10-12 minutes. Before this current schedule, which took effect October 23rd, 2022, trains on the Blue Line were scheduled to run about every 5 to 7 minutes. This "solution" has only worsened the situation because employee availability can vary day by day. This has left gaps between trains easily becoming a 15 to 20, even 30 minute wait in some cases, rather than a 10 minute with the previous schedule. This video showcases the amounts of ridership and capacity issues on the Blue Line at Clark/Lake during the PM rush hour, under this current schedule. This was filmed on various dates during February 2023. Special thanks to Josh Burns for filming the entirety of this video! An oak is a tree or shrub in the genus Quercus (/ˈkwɜːrkəs/;Latin "oak tree") of the beech family, Fagaceae. There are approximately 600 extant species of oaks. The common name "oak" may also appear in the names of species in related genera, notably Lithocarpus. The genus is native to the Northern Hemisphere, and includes deciduous and evergreen species extending from cool temperate to tropical latitudes in the Americas, Asia, Europe, and North Africa. North America contains the largest number of oak species, with approximately 90 occurring in the United States. Mexico has 160 species, of which 109 are endemic. The second greatest center of oak diversity is China, which contains approximately 100 species.

Oaks have spirally arranged leaves, with lobate margins in many species; some have serrated leaves or entire leaves with smooth margins. Many deciduous species are marcescent, not dropping dead leaves until spring. In spring, a single oak tree produces both male flowers (in the form of catkins) and small female flowers. The fruit is a nut called an acorn, borne in a cup-like structure known as a cupule; each acorn contains one seed (rarely two or three) and takes 6–18 months to mature, depending on species. The live oaks are distinguished for being evergreen, but are not actually a distinct group and instead are dispersed across the genus.

  This is a sequel to the video our good friend Josh recorded back in 2019, which can be found here: https://youtu.be/O7m2q7mjFSI The CTA's Blue Line has been talked about a whole lot lately by many transit advocates across the city. In light of a pandemic and many issues the city and the CTA are facing, there have been a number of growing problems affecting our transit system in recent months. Two of those are ridership and staff shortages. Ridership is indeed increasing as people are coming back to using public transit. But due to staffing shortages caused by a city-mandated vaccine requirement for city workers and safety concerns, the whole rail and bus system has been deemed unreliable by the general public. Currently across the 'L' network, the train schedules have been modified to "reflect" the current number of operators CTA has available. This was heavily suggested by a group by the name of "Commuters Take Action", which are known for calling out the CTA for "ghost trains" and "inaccurate train trackers". Their claim is because the trackers are programmed to display both scheduled and live runs. They claim the scheduled runs that aren't filled due to any sort of manpower absence are "ghost trains". As a result, service has worsened rather than improved with trains scheduled to run every 10-12 minutes. Before this current schedule, which took effect October 23rd, 2022, trains on the Blue Line were scheduled to run about every 5 to 7 minutes. This "solution" has only worsened the situation because employee availability can vary day by day. This has left gaps between trains easily becoming a 15 to 20, even 30 minute wait in some cases, rather than a 10 minute with the previous schedule. This video showcases the amounts of ridership and capacity issues on the Blue Line at Clark/Lake during the PM rush hour, under this current schedule. This was filmed on various dates during February 2023. Special thanks to Josh Burns for filming the entirety of this video! CTA 'L' - A Post-Pandemic Blue Line PM Rush Hour (Feb 2023)

This is a sequel to the video our good friend Josh recorded back in 2019, which can be found here: https://youtu.be/O7m2q7mjFSI The CTA's Blue Line has been talked about a whole lot lately by many transit advocates across the city. In light of a pandemic and many issues the city and the CTA are facing, there have been a number of growing problems affecting our transit system in recent months. Two of those are ridership and staff shortages. Ridership is indeed increasing as people are coming back to using public transit. But due to staffing shortages caused by a city-mandated vaccine requirement for city workers and safety concerns, the whole rail and bus system has been deemed unreliable by the general public. Currently across the 'L' network, the train schedules have been modified to "reflect" the current number of operators CTA has available. This was heavily suggested by a group by the name of "Commuters Take Action", which are known for calling out the CTA for "ghost trains" and "inaccurate train trackers". Their claim is because the trackers are programmed to display both scheduled and live runs. They claim the scheduled runs that aren't filled due to any sort of manpower absence are "ghost trains". As a result, service has worsened rather than improved with trains scheduled to run every 10-12 minutes. Before this current schedule, which took effect October 23rd, 2022, trains on the Blue Line were scheduled to run about every 5 to 7 minutes. This "solution" has only worsened the situation because employee availability can vary day by day. This has left gaps between trains easily becoming a 15 to 20, even 30 minute wait in some cases, rather than a 10 minute with the previous schedule. This video showcases the amounts of ridership and capacity issues on the Blue Line at Clark/Lake during the PM rush hour, under this current schedule. We pray that with a new mayoral administration coming to city hall in May, the CTA will return to normalcy with being as busy and frequent of a system it was back in 2019!
