The caduceus (☤; /kəˈduːsiːəs/ or /kəˈdjuːʃəs/; from Greekκηρύκειονkērukeion "herald's staff" ) is the staff carried by Hermes Trismegistus in Egyptian mythology and Hermes in Greek mythology. The same staff was also borne by heralds in general, for example by Iris, the messenger of Hera. It is a short staff entwined by two serpents, sometimes surmounted by wings. In Roman iconography, it was often depicted being carried in the left hand of Mercury, the messenger of the gods, guide of the dead and protector of merchants, shepherds, gamblers, liars, and thieves.
Some accounts suggest that the oldest known imagery of the caduceus have their roots in a Mesopotamian origin with the Sumerian god Ningishzida whose symbol, a staff with two snakes intertwined around it, dates back to 4000 B.C. to 3000 B.C.
As a symbolic object, it represents Hermes (or the Roman Mercury), and by extension trades, occupations, or undertakings associated with the god. In later Antiquity, the caduceus provided the basis for the astrological symbol representing the planet Mercury. Thus, through its use in astrology and alchemy, it has come to denote the elemental metal of the same name. It is said the wand would wake the sleeping and send the awake to sleep. If applied to the dying, their death was gentle; if applied to the dead, they returned to life.
Why the Caduceus Isn't the Real Symbol of Medicine | SymbolSage
The Caduceus and Rod of Asclepius symbols both come from Greek mythology. In Greek mythology, the Caduceus is the symbol of Hermes, the messenger god, whose Roman equivalent is Mercury. The Rod of Asclepius belongs to Asclepius, the Greco-Roman god of medicine. Of the two, the Rod of Asclepius is the original symbol of medicine, but it's often mistaken for the Caduceus because of the similarities between them.
The confusion began when both symbols were used interchangeably by various medical organizations such as the U.S. Army Medical Corps, who used it as a badge of neutrality, referencing the symbol used on ancient, noncombatant merchant ships. Today, most medical organizations favour the use of the Rod of Asclepius, but some continue to use the Caduceus as a medical symbol.

Hi!
School has been crazy- I have been learning a lot! I managed to do this between my classes, work, and other projects. The frame rate is a bit low and I couldn't find the energy to color it, but animating a clip like this was fun! I enjoyed the process a lot. And now that I finally have access to some better software, and I've finished this, I am going to be trying out a bunch of new stuff! look forward to that.
