A gozar!!

I wrote this danzón, dedicated to my wife Gliceria Abreu and to the neighborhood in which we lived for many years in Havana, 26 years ago for the Buenavista Social Club sessions. At that time, the soloists were, Richard Egües (flute), Cachaito López (Doublebass) and I playing the melodic line. It has been very successful and I have never stopped playing it. In this performance, the soloists are: my daughter Laura Lydia González (Bb Clarinet), my nephew Tony Perigó (trumpet), my ekobio Orlando Cardoso on piano and I, of course older, again with the melody. This is from our last concert at SFO Jazz Center. Enjoy !!

Yesterday I was listening to the music of Adalberto Alvarez. The one from the early days, with Tiburon, Baloy, Anderson, etc. And I remembered the occasion when he was kind enough to change a song of his set to dedicate a Son Montuno to me in one of his concerts. So, I reviewed the fateful 2021 and the number of great Cuban musicians who disappeared. This song that I originally recorded 25 years ago with my Buenavista musicians (Pio, Puntillita, Ibrahim, etc.) I want to dedicate to the memory of those who have recently left us. Emilio Suarez and I have a controversy in Espinelas and there are excellent solos by Raudel Marzal and Orlando Cardoso. Hopefully this 2022 wont be as shitty as its predecessor.
