The Jomon, a 10,000 Year Old Culture (and Pots!) | History of Japan 3
After the Stone Age came the Jomon Period, which lasted for 10,000 years. What were the two inventions that supported them through the years? The bow-and-arrow and pottery.
Although life was hard, it was also peaceful. The Jomon did not engage in wars that we know of, unlike the societies that come later.

Making a Replica Jomon Flame Pot
Heritage potter and experimental archaeologist Graham Taylor explores the challenges of making a replica flame pot. The original artefact was brought from Japan to feature in a new exhibition at Stonehenge, and English Heritage commissioned this replica to be part of the handling collection.
'Circles of Stone: Stonehenge and Prehistoric Japan' will tell the story of prehistoric Japan through its settlements and stone circles of the middle and late Jomon periods, the time when Stonehenge was built and used. The exhibition is open from 30 September 2022 until August 2023.

Japan's Jomon Period in 3 Minutes
Breaking down the main points of Japan's first named historical era: the Jōmon Period!
This new "In X Minutes" series is intended to be a companion to my "The Textbook" series, whose videos have been getting longer and more detailed as time has gone on. You can check out that series here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ha34-NIuM-U&list=PLNCtLwAPEacUbEtKvbkvqFJAp7w23TJs5
My hope is that this series can be a quick way for people to review the information presented in the longer videos, or just a more accessible intro to Japanese history. I will also be creating Japanese companion videos for each of these, both for friends in Japan who would prefer Japanese-language media and for learners of the Japanese language who would like to see how to talk about history in Japanese! Ancient Jomon: the cradle of Japanese Culture
Jomon is a period of Japanese pre-history that lasted from about 16,000 to 2,500 years ago. The period is marked by distinct clay pottery with many decorative elements, such as flame-shaped decorations and designs made with woven strings.
The people who lived in what is Niigata Prefecture today had to learn to survive under extreme climate conditions (particularly due to the 2-3 meter snow falls!).
Some traditions and practices that started so many thousands of years ago, can still be seen in Japanese culture.
Join us, as we explore the ways of life of the ancient people and how their lifestyles are still reflected in the culture of modern Japan.

A short documentary film : Jomon People and their Lifestyle
The Jomon culture, begins with the discovery of pottery dated to 16,000 years ago. The Jomon view of life, is extremely valuable, they were quite effective in their use of surrounding flora and fauna, taking great care in not exhausting them. They took only what they needed, leaving the rest.

Check that playlist out here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNCtLwAPEacXJDTqDNUssQsNkfwvHmquu
