He was born at Pockthorpe, near Norwich, a younger son of William Blennerhassett; from his approximate date of birth he must have the child of William's second marriage to Alice Sylsby. His father who also held lands at Horsford was a substantial landowner and magistrate, noted for his "Godly zeal" and extreme Puritan views. John's brothers Edward and Thomas played a key part in the Plantation of Ulster and were granted large estates in Fermanagh. Robert Blennerhassett, founder of the Blennerhassett family of Ballyseedy, County Kerry, was a cousin, as was the elder John Blennerhassett, member of Parliament for Norwich in 1571.
Blennerhassett was the son of Captain John Blennerhassett and Martha Lynn. He was probably born at Ballycarty Castle, County Kerry, where his family owned a large estate. He was the brother of Robert Blennerhassett.
John Blennerhassett (15 June 1715 – 1763) was an Anglo-Irish politician.
Blennerhassett was the son of the politician, John Blennerhassett, and Jane Denny. He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1733 and subsequently practised as a lawyer. He held the office of High Sheriff of Kerry in 1740. In 1751 he was elected to the Irish House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for Kerry, serving until 1761. In 1762 he was re-elected and sat as the MP for Kerry until his death the following year.
He married, firstly, Anne Crosbie, daughter of Colonel William Crosbie and Isabella Smyth, on 21 February 1736. He married, secondly, Frances Herbert, daughter of Edward Herbert and Hon. Frances Browne, on 10 April 1753.
John Blennerhassett (1769 - 6 July 1794) was an Anglo-Irish politician.
Blennerhassett was the son of William Blennerhassett and Catherine Johnson, and the great-grandson of John Blennerhassett. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, graduating with a masters in 1792. Between 1790 and his death in 1794 Blennerhassett sat in the Irish House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for Kerry. He was unmarried when he died.
John Blennerhassett or Hasset (by 1521-73), of Barsham by Beccles, Suffolk, was an English politician.
He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Norwich 1563 and 1571, and for Horsham in 1558. He was a member of Norwich Corporation to which he presented two silver cups in 1562.
He was the son of Sir Thomas Blennerhassett and Margaret Barham. He married firstly Elizabeth Cornwallis and secondly Mary Etchingham and by two marriages had six sons and five daughters.
The Parting Glass, in memory of my Father Rowland Blennerhassett, a true Gentleman.
This short music video is in memory of my late Father Rowland Blennerhassett from Sligo, who used to tell me a story as a child about our ancestor Harman Blennerhassett, a member of the United Irishmen who fled from Ireland after the failed 1798 rebellion and settled on Blennerhassett Island in the Ohio river near Parkersburg, West Virginia in the USA.
It was a dream of his to visit the island which was sadly never realised in his lifetime.
He was a great traveller and tourist and I think "The Parting Glass" by Robert Burns is a fitting tribute to him.

Harman and Margaret Blennerhassett: Aaron Burr's Co-Conspirators to Conquer Mexico in 1806
In this episode we read from Richard N. Cote's book "Theodosia Burr Alston: Portrait of a Prodigy," about Harman and Margaret Blennerhassett and their association with Aaron Burr around 1805, when they agreed to let him use their island as a staging ground for a conquest of Spanish territories like Florida and Mexico. Burr was also accused of plotting to sever the western states of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio from the Atlantic States.

PHS Big Red Band at Blennerhassett May 25, 1987
A most appropriate day to post this vintage "Sousa" style concert, played by the Parkersburg High School Big Red Band on Blennerhassett Island, May 25, 1987...this VHS video was provided to me by then co-director, Felice Jorgeson, during my recent visit to Parkersburg. Her husband and co-director, Kent Jorgeson, was a featured trombone soloist here, playing Arthur Pryor's "Thoughts of Love." Mary Eberhardt was also a featured soloist along with other surprise guests. This was a very special concert for the band to be "transported" to the island via ferry boats! Felice wanted me to know that the program was a bit under-rehearsed because they had just presented their Spring Concert at the high school a few weeks earlier and that program did not include most of the selections heard here. I'm ...

I'm thankful that someone thought it was important enough to videotape! Enjoy the high school band from about 25 years after I played in it. Anyone who played in that band knew well of its reputation and was privileged to play in it!
