Darcey Steinke
Darcey Steinke (born April 25, 1962) is an American author.
Early life
Steinke, born in Oneida, N.Y., on April 25, 1962, is the daughter of a Lutheran minister. Steinke grew up in upstate New York; Connecticut; Philadelphia; and Roanoke, Virginia. She is a graduate of Cave Spring High School, Goucher College, and the University of Virginia, where she received a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing. Steinke completed a Stegner Fellowship at Stanford University.
Career
Writing
She is the author of four novels, Up Through the Water, Suicide Blonde, Jesus Saves, and Milk, and the spiritual memoir Easter Everywhere. Her fifth novel, Sister Golden Hair, was published by Tin House Books in October 2014. Steinke co-edited the collection of essays Joyful Noise: The New Testament Revisited with Rick Moody. Steinke has written extensively on art and literature and has contributed to Spin Magazine, covering the David Koresh Branch Davidian story and contributing a 1997 cover story on Kurt Cobain. In addition, she has a web project called blindspot which was part of the Whitney Biennial in 2000. Her novels Up Through the Water and Jesus Saves were selected as New York Times Notable Books of the Year.

Jesus (1999 film)
Jesus is a 1999 Biblical television film that retells the story of Jesus. It was shot in Morocco and Malta. It stars Jeremy Sisto as Jesus, Jacqueline Bisset as Mary of Nazareth, Debra Messing as Mary Magdalene and Gary Oldman as Pontius Pilate.
Overview
The film's chronology entails a cinematic blending of the Four Gospels with the addition of extra-biblical elements not found in the New Testament Accounts. It provides a down to earth approach through its focus on the human aspect of Jesus. Compared to more solemn and divine portrayals in earlier films, Jesus expresses emotions weeping at Joseph’s funeral, throwing stones in Lake Galilee upon meeting Simon Peter and James son of Zebedee, dancing at the wedding at Cana, and starting a water-splashing fight with his disciples.
While the film mainly presented familiar Christian Episodes, it provides extra-biblical scenes such as flashbacks of his first trip to Jerusalem with John as well as scenes of war and destruction waged in the name of Jesus during the medieval and modern times. Likewise, the film's Satan comes in two different forms: a visual exemplification of a modern man and a woman in red, instead of the traditional snake that can be found in most films. The film also adds a composite character, an apocryphal Roman historian named “Livio” who watches and comments as events unfold; he is presumably named after Livy.

Love Out Loud is an album by Jaci Velasquez released on March 18, 2008.
Album background
On the heels of the tenth-year anniversary celebration of her debut platinum selling album, Heavenly Place, Velasquez returned to the studio to write and record Love Out Loud. Velasquez once again teamed-up with Mark Heimermann, the producer of her first three albums. The lead single is "Love Out Loud" that speaks of putting one's words into action to show others God's love through us.

Queen (Queen album)
Queen is the eponymous debut studio album by British rock band Queen, released in July 1973. It was recorded at Trident Studios and De Lane Lea Music Centre, London, with production by Roy Thomas Baker (as Roy Baker), John Anthony and Queen.
The album was influenced by the hard rock, progressive rock and heavy metal of the day. It covers subjects such as folklore ("My Fairy King") and religion ("Jesus"). Lead singer Freddie Mercury composed five of the ten tracks, guitarist Brian May composed four songs, (including "Doing All Right", which was co-written by Smile band-mate Tim Staffell), and drummer Roger Taylor composed and sang "Modern Times Rock and Roll". The final song on the album is a short instrumental version of "Seven Seas of Rhye". The band included on the album sleeve the comment "And nobody played synthesiser", a purist principle of May's, as some listeners had mistaken their elaborate multi-tracking and effects processed by guitar and vocal sounds as synthesisers. Bassist John Deacon was credited on the sleeve notes of the original vinyl release as "Deacon John", but after its release, he asked to be referred to by his real name.

Dozens of the students had read the memoir beforehand because the religious themes and questions Steinke shares from her life dovetail perfectly with their current coursework. Students responded to the opportunity to share the intimate details of Steinkes life with pointed, thought provoking questions and observations.
The daughter of a Lutheran Minister, Steinke said that while her father was engaged in a more socially active 60s and 70s based theology; she has had an opposite reaction. I think the kingdom of god has to do with personal consciousness and everybody getting to a point where theyre so aware that wars and things like that would be less likely to happen, said Steinke. My own mission has been a lot about the more personal spiritual path and less about working the soup kitchens and things like that. And I feel guilty about that, I feel like I should be more socially active and its been hard for me.
Steinke also spoke frankly about her evolving spirituality on topics like her view on sin, her personal praying as opposed to more structured church attendance and how she came to see that her religious life and secular life were not distinct entities but all the same.
Steinke has written several novels including, Milk: A Novel, Suicide Blonde and Jesus Saves, and twice been named to the New York Times Most Notable Books of the Year list.
The Walt Whitman Writers Series began in November of 2008 with a reading by Jonathan Lethem from his award-winning novel, The Fortress of Solitude.
Walt Whitman, a long-time Brooklyn resident who often included the then-city of Brooklyn in his work, was a natural choice to be honored by naming the writer series for him.

Menopause is an overdue new frontier of our shared public conversation. Labyrinth and the Princeton Public Library invite you to join author Darcy Steinke and poet and critic Susan Wheeler as they help shape that conversation.
In Flash Count Diary, Steinke writes frankly about aspects of menopause that have rarely been written about before. She explores the changing gender landscape that comes with reduced hormone levels, and lays bare the transformation of female desire and the realities of prejudice against older women. Weaving together her personal story with philosophy, science, art, and literature, Steinke reveals that in the seventeenth century, women who had hot flashes in front of others could be accused of being witches; that the model for Duchamp’s famous Étant donnés was a post-reproductive woman; and that killer whales -- one of the only other species on earth to undergo menopause -- live long post-reproductive lives.
Flash Count Diary is a deeply feminist book -- honest about the intimations of mortality that menopause brings while also arguing for the ascendancy, beauty, and power of the post-reproductive years.
Darcey Steinke is the author of the memoir Easter Everywhere and the novels Milk, Jesus Saves, Suicide Blonde, Up Through the Water, and Sister Golden Hair. She has taught at Columbia University, Barnard, the American University of Paris, and Princeton. Susan Wheeler is the author of a novel, Record Palace, and six books of poetry, Bag o Diamonds, Smokes, Source Codes, Ledger, Assorted Poems and Meme, which was shortlisted for a National Book Award. Her life laid bare before a standing room only crowd, author Darcey Steinke read excerpts from her memoir Easter Everywhere on March 24 at St. Francis College that dealt with the existential, like her personal struggle to understand her religious beliefs and the physical, such as her fight to overcome stuttering. Steinkes appearance was part of the Walt Whitman Writers Series, dedicated to bringing top flight authors to the College to share their thoughts on the art of writing and the specifics of their work. Dozens of the students had read the memoir beforehand because the religious themes and questions Steinke shares from her life dovetail perfectly with their current coursework. Students responded to the opportunity to share the intimate details of Steinkes life with pointed, thought provoking questions and observations.
The daughter of a Lutheran Minister, Steinke said that while her father was engaged in a more socially active 60s and 70s based theology; she has had an opposite reaction. I think the kingdom of god has to do with personal consciousness and everybody getting to a point where theyre so aware that wars and things like that would be less likely to happen, said Steinke. My own mission has been a lot about the more personal spiritual path and less about working the soup kitchens and things like that. And I feel guilty about that, I feel like I should be more socially active and its been hard for me.
Steinke also spoke frankly about her evolving spirituality on topics like her view on sin, her personal praying as opposed to more structured church attendance and how she came to see that her religious life and secular life were not distinct entities but all the same.

The Walt Whitman Writers Series began in November of 2008 with a reading by Jonathan Lethem from his award-winning novel, The Fortress of Solitude.
Walt Whitman, a long-time Brooklyn resident who often included the then-city of Brooklyn in his work, was a natural choice to be honored by naming the writer series for him.

Darcey Steinke
Darcey Steinke (born April 25, 1962) is an American author.
Early life
Steinke, born in Oneida, N.Y., on April 25, 1962, is the daughter of a Lutheran minister. Steinke grew up in upstate New York; Connecticut; Philadelphia; and Roanoke, Virginia. She is a graduate of Cave Spring High School, Goucher College, and the University of Virginia, where she received a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing. Steinke completed a Stegner Fellowship at Stanford University.
Career
Writing
She is the author of four novels, Up Through the Water, Suicide Blonde, Jesus Saves, and Milk, and the spiritual memoir Easter Everywhere. Her fifth novel, Sister Golden Hair, was published by Tin House Books in October 2014. Steinke co-edited the collection of essays Joyful Noise: The New Testament Revisited with Rick Moody. Steinke has written extensively on art and literature and has contributed to Spin Magazine, covering the David Koresh Branch Davidian story and contributing a 1997 cover story on Kurt Cobain. In addition, she has a web project called blindspot which was part of the Whitney Biennial in 2000. Her novels Up Through the Water and Jesus Saves were selected as New York Times Notable Books of the Year.
