"So early in the morning,O" By James Stephens Poem animation
Here's a virtual movie of the celebrated Irish poet James Stephens reading and singing his lyrical poem "So early in the morning,O".The poem describes the freedom of the Early Bird and was first published in "The fifteen acres", from The Adventures of Seumas Beg [and] The Rocky Road to Dublin, published 1915

They competed and won several athletic competitions despite James' slight stature (he stood 4'10" in his socks). He was known affectionately as 'Tiny Tim'. He was much enthralled by tales of m...

Heres a virtual movie of the celebrated Irish novelist and poet James Stephens reading one of his best loved poems "Little Things" This "Little" Poem is is both an ode and a prayer to the smaller overllooked things that are bigger in importance to the beauty of our lives than perhaps their stature suggests. So spoke a poet who was himself just 4 feet 10inches in height, but who left such a large volume of fine literary works behind him
Little Things (1924), apart from the subjects we might expect -- the mouse, the coney, the lamb, the linnet, the hare, the bee, the bird, the butterfly, the snake, an apple, a rose, the moon, a star, the wind -- contains in 'Thy Soul' (elsewhere called Nachiketas and Death') what Stephens thought a feat, to put 'the whole of the Upanishads & the Vedanta' into verse & to put it so shortly'. He wrote to his American friend W.T.H.Howe, who became President of the American Book Company and was interested in marketing Stephens' books (from 1929 Stephens used to stay at Freelands, his estate in Kentucky -- 'Christmas at Freelands' (1925) is a tribute to it) that it had taken him fifteen years to write 'Thy Soul', 'although I actually did write it in ten minutes'
James Stephens (February 9, 1882--December 26, 1950) was an Irish novelist and poet.
James Stephens wrote many retellings of Irish myths and fairy tales. His retellings are marked by a rare combination of humor and lyricism (Deirdre, and Irish Fairy Tales are often singled out for praise). He also wrote several original novels (Crock of Gold, Etched in Moonlight, Demi-Gods) loosely based on Irish fairy tales. "Crock of Gold," in particular, achieved enduring popularity and was frequently reprinted throughout the author's lifetime.
Stephens began his career as a poet under the tutelage of "Æ" (George William Russell). His first book of poems, "Insurrections," was published in 1909. His last book, "Kings and the Moon" (1938), was also a volume of verse.
In the 1930s, Stephens had some acquaintance with James Joyce, who found that they shared a birth year (and, Joyce mistakenly believed, a birthday). Joyce, who was concerned with his ability to finish what would later become Finnegans Wake, proposed at one point that Stephens assist him, with the authorship credited to JJ & S (James Joyce & Stephens, also a pun for the popular Irish whiskey made by John Jameson & Sons). The plan, however, never came to fruition, as Joyce was able to complete the work on his own.
In the last decade of his life, Stephens found a new audience through a series of broadcasts on the BBC.
Kind Regards

He was a level-headed man and habitually conducted his affairs on hard-headed principles. He had conducted his courtship, his matrimonial and domestic affairs in a manner which she should not have termed reckless or romantic. When, therefore, she found him excited, and over such a story, she did not know how just to take the matter. (Source - Scribd)

Description:
He was excited, and as he leaned forward in his chair and told this story to his wife he revealed to her a degree or a species of the credulity of which she could not have believed him capable.

James Stephens (9 February 1882 -- 26 December 1950) was an Irish novelist and poet.
James' mother worked in the home of the Collins family of Dublin and was adopted by them. He attended school with his adopted brothers Thomas and Richard (Tom and Dick) before graduating as a solicitor's clerk. They competed and won several athletic competitions despite James' slight stature (he stood 4'10" in his socks). He was known affectionately as 'Tiny Tim'. He was much enthralled by tales of military valour of his adoptive family and would have been a soldier except for his height. By the early 1900s James was increasingly inclined to socialism and the Irish language (he could speak and write Irish) and by 1912 was a dedicated Irish Republican. This brought a schism with his adopted family. James Stephens produced many retellings of Irish myths and fairy tales. His retellings are marked by a rare combination of humor and lyricism (Deirdre, and Irish Fairy Tales are often especially praised). He also wrote several original novels (Crock of Gold, Etched in Moonlight, Demi-Gods) based loosely on Irish fairy tales. "Crock of Gold," in particular, achieved enduring popularity and was reprinted frequently throughout the author's lifetime.[1]
Stephens began his career as a poet with the tutelage of "Æ" (George William Russell). His first book of poems, "Insurrections," was published in 1909. His last book, "Kings and the Moon" (1938), was also a volume of verse.[2]
During the 1930s, Stephens had some acquaintance with James Joyce, who found that they shared a birth year (and, Joyce mistakenly believed, a birthday). Joyce, who was concerned with his ability to finish what later became Finnegans Wake, proposed that Stephens assist him, with the authorship credited to JJ & S (James Joyce & Stephens, also a pun for the popular Irish whiskey made by John Jameson & Sons). The plan, however, was never implemented, as Joyce was able to complete the work on his own.[3]
During the last decade of his life, Stephens found a new audience through a series of broadcasts on the BBC.

I cling and swing
On a branch, or sing
Thro' the cool, clear hush of morning, O: -
Or fling my wing
On the air, and bring
To sleepier birds a warning, O: -
That the night's in flight,
And the sun's in sight,
And the dew is the grass adorning, O:
And the green leaves swing
As I sing, sing, sing,
Up by the river,
Down the dell,
To the little wee nest,
Where the big tree fell,
So early in the morning, O:-
I flit and twit
In the sun for a bit
When his light so bright is shining, O:-
Or sit and fit
My plumes, or knit
Straw plaits for the nest's nice lining, O:-
And she with glee
Shows unto me
Underneath her wings reclining, O:
And I sing that Peg
Has an egg, egg, egg,
Up by the oatfield,
Round the mill,
Past the meadow,
Down the hill,
So early in the morning, O:-
I stoop and swoop
On the air, or loop
Thro' the trees, and then go soaring, O: -
To group with a troop
On the gusty poop
While the wind behind is roaring, O: -
I skim and swim
By a cloud's red rim,
And up to the azure flooring, O: -
And my wide wings drip
As I slip, slip, slip,
Down thro' the raindrops,
Back where Peg
Broods in the nest
On the little white egg,
So early in the morning, O -

James Stephens was an Irish poet of considerable renown for wit and humor, who often observed the quirky side of things. In this case he considers what a little bird must busy himself with on a typical day, especially if he and the misses are expecting! I have no idea what 'the fifteen acres' refers to, but here's a reader's chance to lay on a wee bit of Irish brogue. - Summary by Michele Fry
