China’s J-35 Carrier Fighter Appears; Step To ‘Most Powerful Navy'
In today’s session, we will take a look on the newly China’s J-35 Carrier Fighter, does it a step to the most powerful navy? To answer this question, stay tune at this channel!
China’s Navy has taken another step toward erasing the last advantages that the US Navy enjoys, in the form of the new, stealthy carrier fighter aircraft known as the J-35. It is a fighter jet that China’s military once considered a white elephant appears to have finally secured a role as the country’s newest carrier fighter.
Prior to the introduction of the J-35, the backbone of China’s air force was the J-15 fighter. The J-15 is a reverse-engineered Chinese copy of the Russian Sukhoi Su-33, a fourth-generation fighter which has been thoroughly surpassed by U.S. planes such as the F-22 and F-35.

FC-31/J-35: Best Look Yet At China’s Carrier-Capable Stealth Fighter
What appears to be the first high-resolution picture of a prototype navalized derivative of the Chinese Shenyang J-35 stealth fighter, also often referred to as the FC-31, has emerged online, as seen at the top of this story. China's J-35 fighter exposed in new photo! The best medium-size stealth fighter in the world?
There is big news about the latest Chinese stealth fighter, the J-35. Two photos surfaced online, and one of them shows the J-35’s details never seen before. It is the best quality photo of the J-35 so far.
The fighter is marked with three five triple zero three, indicating this is the third aircraft of this particular batch of J-35 prototypes.
The J-35 is the first medium-sized stealth fighter from China. In many ways, it is similar to the American F-35, but since it is a two-engine design, there is a fundamental difference between the two. It also confirms the aircraft is indeed called J-35, not J-31.
The number three, five, triple zero three, proves that the latest J-35 design already produces at least 3 aircraft. Also, this is the first photo of the J-35 in the Chinese Navy steal...

In fact, the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation has existed as an actual flying platform since 2011, after which it progressed through three major design iterations and several designators (F-60/J-31/ and FC-31) before resurfacing as the J-35 aircraft which features a redesigned wing and an elongated fuselage optimised for a lower radar cross section (RCS).
The J-35’s first public appearance was as the J-31 at the 2014 Air Show China expo. This model was fitted with two underpowered Russian-made engines originally developed for the Mikoyan MiG-29.

China's J-35 fighter is changing! Mass-production prototype has these few things totally revamped

J-20 fighter video collection, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey5s17mjM9w&list=PLofQNsLszRLJ0g-ppDdxLFY9F_T62XU3p
Hi everyone, today I want to share with you a new comparison photo from Chinese social media. It shows the latest J-35 medium size stealth fighter prototype compared with the older prototype. Some called the older prototype J-35 2.0, and the latest 3.0. It is widely believe the 3.0 is the mass production prototype.
Beginning with the tip of this Chinese fighter, the latest J-35 has an optical electronic suite below the radar . The 2.0 has an antenna.
The 3.0 has a canopy opening forward, very similar to the US F-35. The 2.0 has a backward opening canopy.
It appears the latest F-35 has a tilted pilot ejection seat, likely to assist the pilot to handle high overload. The 2.0 seems to have traditional ejection seat.
The J-35 3.0 has an enlarged fuselage section behind canopy compared to the 2.0. It might reduce drag and provide additional internal space. An antenna below the cockpit seems to be removed.
The front landing gear on 3.0 is clearly designed for aircraft carrier operation. A catapult launching hook is added. And stuns appear to be strengthened. Front landing gear door might have a different zigzag edge than the J-35 2.0.
At the tail of the latest J-35, turbofan engine exhausts have serrated tips, an indication of the latest WS-19 turbofans installed.
Overall, the J-35 3.0 is going through its test flight phase. However some believe there might be issues with the performance as progress is slow, considering the FC-31 demonstrator was first launched in 2012, and the 2.0 prototype has been flying for years. It would be interesting to see how long it takes for the J-35 to start mass production and delivered to the Chinese military.

The J-35 is the latest Chinese fighter in testing. A few photos and videos have surfaced online recently, indicating the J-35 is in an intense test flight stage. Here I am going to play the very short clip of the J-35 performing a test flight above a residential area and then share with you my analysis.
This clip is very short, but we can clearly see the aircraft is a J-35 fighter. I will play it again so you don’t have to rewind.
As mentioned, there are a few more photos of the J-35 released. One of the most interesting photos is the folding wing layout of the J-35. At this stage, this medium-sized fighter is solely aiming at the Chinese Navy contract to be deployed on the latest 003 aircraft carrier. This is the first indigenous folding wing design in China. Before that, China had the folding-wing J-15 fighter based on a Soviet design.
In this photo, we can see the main wing is divided into two parts with a folding mechanism. The slats and flaps attached to the main wing are also separated into two sections so they can be folded, too. The J-35 has a similar surface area as the US F-35C catapult launched variant, which is relatively big and makes folding design more challenging. It also proves that the J-35 is solely aiming at Chinese aircraft carrier project contracts. This fighter has not yet gained any orders from the Air Force.
Another interesting thing I want to highlight is that, clearly, this latest Chinese stealth fighter is frequently flying above populated areas of Shen Yang city in northern China, where the design and initial test flight facility are located. But unlike the J-20 flying around Cheng Du city in western China, there are not many photos and videos of the J-35. That makes the J-35 more mysterious than the J-20 fighter. It could be because the J-35 is still highly sensitive and is being better safeguarded both online and in the physical world.
Adding to that, the J-35 project appears to be progressing in 2022. Some photos published online reveal more details. For example, the canopy is clearly revealed to have a forward-opening design. The first two initial production batch fighters are painted in an active service scheme, indicating the J-35 will officially be handed over to the Chinese Navy, one step closer to entering service. Chinese military insignia is also painted. The vertical tail now has a logo of a flying shark, unique to the Chinese aircraft carrier aviation corp. An opening cover similar to the ones on the F-35 can be spotted next to the diverterless supersonic inlet.
Overall, the J-35 project is entering its final stage of being ready for delivery to the Chinese Navy. It will become the first indigenously designed, catapult-launched fighter in China. It will work with the catapult-launched J-15 variant onboard the new type 003 aircraft carrier. This will mark yet another breakthrough in the Chinese military build-up.

The image we now have offers much better views of the aircraft and its features. Reportedly the second flying prototype, and the third in all, the jet's new paint job and other markings, including what may be a 'flying shark' logo similar to ones seen on People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) J-15 carrier-based fighter jets, point to steady progress in its development in the past few months and further confirm its intended naval role.

A number of interesting details about the aircraft, which wears the serial number 35003 and a gray tactical paint scheme with subdued national insignia, along with other markings, are visible in the images, including regard to its canopy and engines.
Though the development of this aircraft had been long-rumored, especially as China's fleet of aircraft carriers continues to grow, the first reliable shots of it in flight, as well as on the ground, had only emerged late last year. All of those images, which showed the plane in a turquoise primer paint scheme, were low-resolution.

Also, this is the first photo of the J-35 in the Chinese Navy stealth scheme, similar to the J-20 stealth fighter scheme.
A subdued Chinese military insignia is painted next to the cockpit. However, I would need to highlight that, in the other photo, there is no such insignia. I am doubtful if the insignia is actually doctored in the first photo. If it does have the military insignia, based on experience, this proves the J-35 has been officially adopted by the Chinese military, like the Navy. If this is true, then it is a major breakthrough in the long J-35 project. The project has gone through 3 stages already; the FC-31 demonstrator, the first J-35 prototype, also called J-35 1.0, and then the latest so-called J-35 2.0 design displayed in this photo.
The vertical tail also has a logo that could be a shark or an eagle. The J-35 is believed to have the nickname "Gyrfalcon."
This aircraft could be the second flying prototype. At the front of the J-35, there is a data sensor tube for testing data collection purposes, which will be removed in mass produced aircraft. A radar dome with lighter coloured paint houses a Chinese active electronic scan array radar.
Then a huge canopy similar to the F-35 design opens forward, which is different from the J-35 one-point-zero prototype. The canopy joins a large integral bulkhead at the rear, a common design in the latest stealth fighters to free up space for an internal weapon bay. The pilot's direct rearward visibility is limited. This shows the Chinese might have trouble designing a rear hinged canopy and decide to go with the same idea as the F-35.
The J-35 has two diverterless supersonic inlets. For the first time, we can see there is an opening cover after the inlet, again similar to the F-35, likely hosting a fueling port and some equipment connections. There is no side weapon bay like the J-20 or F-22. The photo does not offer a view of the internal weapon bay.
The J-35 is the first dedicated catapult-launched fighter in China. In the new photo, we can see the front landing gear resembles the triangle layout design of the F-18 and F-35.
We can barely see the folding wings’ openings in this photo. It is believed that the J-35 can fold its main wings. In the other new photo, we can see the main wings are enormous, giving an impression of the US F-35C Naval variant.
Because of the relatively wide body to allocate internal weapon bay, the J-35, like the F-35, must have large tails both vertically and horizontally. This is bad for stealth and weight, but a bulkier body will require much better stability control surfaces.
The other particularly noticeable details are its engines, which have pronounced serrated exhaust nozzles and rear fuselage cowlings. This may be the first time we have a clear view of the new WS-21 turbofan engines, with thrust similar to the RD-93 from the latest Mig-29 variants. Some sources also claim that the WS-13E turbofan is the engine of choice.
Many of the low-observable design features can be spotted in this photo. It would not be a surprise if this is indeed a true stealthy aircraft, unlike the Korean KF-21 prototype that took first flight around the same time. It is worth mentioning that the Russian, Turkish, and Indian medium-sized stealth fighters are still on paper. China is clearly ahead of everyone except the United States.
Overall, the J-35 appears to have a seamless surface, with minimally exposed panels, large fasteners, gaps, creases, and antennas that could be detrimental to stealth performance.
We can also observe some Chinese ground crews taking a break under the aircraft.
Analysts widely believe the J-35 fighter will need a few years to reach mature status.
