In this video, friend of the channel Deviant Ollam gives us an on site history lesson regarding the Italian Resistance. This movement was opposed not only to Fascism, but Communism and the Monarchy as well. They were particularly successful in Parma, holding out longer than any other location, but ultimately fell not to bullets or bombs - but to propaganda.

Giorgia Meloni greeted with anti-fascist song Bella Ciao at convention
Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s prime minister and leader of a party with neo-fascist origins, was greeted during a speech in Rimini with some delegates singing the protest song at her arrival.

Meloni was speaking during a convention of the three main Italian unions, CGIL, CISL, and UIL when some unionists sang the song and left the hall with their fists raised. Bella Ciao originated among the hardships of female paddy field workers in the late 19th century and became the anthem of the Italian resistance movement by partisans opposing fascism in the second world war. It has since become a hymn of freedom and resistance.

"Bella Ciao" - Italian Partisan Song
¨Bella ciao" ("Goodbye beautiful") is an Italian folk song that was adopted as an anthem of the anti-fascist resistance. It was used by the Italian partisans during the Italian Civil War between 1943 and 1945 in their struggle against the fascist Italian Social Republic and its Nazi German allies. "Bella ciao" is used worldwide as an anti-fascist hymn of freedom and resistance. The song has much older origins though in the hardships of the mondina women, the paddy field workers in the late 19th century who sang it as a protest against harsh working conditions in the paddy fields in North Italy.

THE ITALIAN RESISTANCE
1920. Catholic Italy was in a state of alarm at the advance of socialism, manifest in the occupation by blue-collar workers of factories and shipyards. The rulers of society, in the financial, industrial and military sectors were determined to re-establish control and in 1922, the king invited Benito Mussolini to form a government. Twenty years of dictatorship followed and in 1940 Mussolini joined forces with Hitler, which provoked allied bombardments of Italian cities and active resistance to the regime by Italian partisans, male and female, of varied political allegiance but united in guerrilla warfare against fascism and German occupation.

LA RESISTENZA ITALIANA
