Isabel Parra
Violeta Isabel Cereceda Parra (born 29 September 1939), better known as Isabel Parra, is a famous Chilean singer-songwriter and interpreter of Latin American musical folklore.
Parra was born in Chile in 1939 and began her career in music at the age of 13 when she made her first recording with her world-renowned mother, the folklorist Violeta Parra. She has since interpreted and recorded the songs of some of the most famous Latin American folk singers. After the September 11, 1973 Chilean coup d’etat she lived in exile in Argentina and France for many years. She returned to Chile when democracy returned to her country.
Parra has toured extensively during her career and was a distinctive figure in the Nueva Canción Chilena (New Chilean Song) movement. Isabel Parra is also the sister of the famous folk singer Ángel Parra and the niece of the famous poet Nicanor Parra.

Violeta Parra
Violeta del Carmen Parra Sandoval (4 October 1917 – 5 February 1967) was a Chilean composer, songwriter, folklorist, ethnomusicologist and visual artist. She pioneered the "Chilean' New Song", the Nueva canción chilena, a renewal and a reinvention of Chilean folk music which would extend its sphere of influence outside Chile. In 2011 Andrés Wood directed a biopic about her, titled Violeta Went to Heaven.
Biography
Early years
Parra was born in San Fabián de Alico, near San Carlos, Ñuble Province, a small town in southern Chile on 4 October 1917, as Violeta del Carmen Parra Sandoval. Violeta Parra was a member of the prolific Parra family. Among her brothers were the notable modern poet, better known as the "anti-poet", Nicanor Parra, and fellow folklorist Roberto Parra. Her son, Ángel Parra, and her daughter, Isabel Parra, are also important figures in the development of the Nueva Canción Chilena. Their children have also mostly maintained the family's artistic traditions.
Her father was a music teacher and her mother worked on a farm, but sang and played the guitar in her spare time. Two years after Violeta's birth, the family moved to Santiago, then, two years later, to Lautaro and, finally, in 1927, to Chillán. It was in Chillan that Violeta started singing and playing the guitar, together with her siblings Hilda, Eduardo and Roberto; and soon began composing traditional Chilean music.
After Parra's father died in 1929, the life circumstances of her family greatly deteriorated. Violeta and her siblings had to work to help feed the family.
In 1932, at the insistence of her brother Nicanor, Parra moved to Santiago to attend the Normal School, staying with relatives. Later, she moved back with her mother and siblings to Edison street, in the Quinta Normal district.

Chilean peso
The peso is the currency of Chile. The current peso has circulated since 1975, with a previous version circulating between 1817 and 1960. Its symbol is defined as a letter S with either one or two vertical bars superimposed prefixing the amount,$ or 
; the single-bar symbol, available in most modern text systems, is almost always used. Both of these symbols are used by many currencies, most notably the US dollar, and may be ambiguous without clarification such as CLP$ or US$. The ISO 4217 code for the present peso is CLP. It is officially subdivided into 100 centavos, although there are no current centavo-denominated coins. The exchange rate was around CLP$600 to 1 U.S. dollar at the end of 2014; by August 2015 it fell to 694 per 1 US dollar.
First peso, 1817–1960
The first Chilean peso was introduced in 1817, at a value of 8 Spanish colonial reales. Until 1851, the peso was subdivided into 8 reales, with the escudo worth 2 pesos. In 1835, copper coins denominated in centavos were introduced but it was not until 1851 that the real and escudo denominations ceased to be issued and further issues in centavos and décimos (worth 10 centavos) commenced. Also in 1851, the peso was set equal 5 French francs on the sild, 22.5 grams pure silver. However, gold coins were issued to a different standard to that of France, with 1 peso = 1.37 grams gold (5 francs equalled 1.45 grams gold). In 1885, a gold standard was adopted, pegging the peso to the British pound at a rate of 13⅓ pesos = 1 pound (1 peso = 1 shilling 6 pence). This was reduced in 1926 to 40 pesos = 1 pound (1 peso = 6 pence). From 1925, coins and banknotes were issued denominated in cóndores, worth 10 pesos. The gold standard was suspended in 1932 and the peso's value fell further. The escudo replaced the peso on 1 January 1960 at a rate 1 escudo = 1000 pesos.

Dingling
The Dingling (Chinese: 丁零) are an ancient people mentioned in Chinese historiography in the context of the 1st century BCE. They are assumed to have been an early Turkic-speaking people, whose original constituents mainly assimilated into the Xiongnu and Xianbei groups. They originally lived on the bank of the Lena River in the area west of Lake Baikal, gradually moving southward to Mongolia and northern China. They were subsequently part of the Xiongnu Empire, and thus presumably related to the invaders known as Huns in the west. Around the 3rd century they were assimilated into the Tiele, also named Gaoche (高車) or Chile (敕勒), who gradually expanded westward into Central Asia, expelled from Mongolia by the Rouran and establishing a state Turpan in the 5th century. The Tiele were a collection of early Turkic tribes, largely descended from the Chile.
Origin and migration
The Dingling were a warlike group of hunters, fishers, and gatherers of the southern Siberian mountain taiga region from Lake Baikal to northern Mongolia. Chinese records do not mention the physical appearance of the Dingling, suggesting general homogeneity with people of the Asiatic region, and their name appears rarely.

La canción cuenta con un acompañamiento de charango y percusión, aunque el principal protagonista es la voz de la propia Violeta que, en las siete estrofas de la canción, se dedica a agradecer la existencia, por las diversas bendiciones que ha recibido: la vista, el sonido, el lenguaje, la marcha, el corazón, y finalmente la risa y el llanto, que forman, según reconoce, la materia prima "de su propio canto". Las estrofas están compuestas por cinco versos dodecasílabos cada una (excepto la última), y rima asonante en cada verso. Cada estrofa comienza con el motivo que impulsa la canción "Gracias a la vida que me ha dado tanto". La última estrofa es la única que cuenta con seis versos, y es abierta y cerrada por el verso principal de la canción.

Chile atraviesa una crisis social y ecológica que amenaza con dividir a la sociedad. Este rico país está experimentando una crisis migratoria de dimensiones sin precedentes. Cada vez surgen más barrios marginales y aumenta la incertidumbre social.
Este país posee enormes recursos minerales y es una potencia exportadora. Chile produce la mayor cantidad de cobre del mundo. La mina de Chuquicamata, en el desierto de Atacama, es una de las minas a cielo abierto más grandes del mundo: un kilómetro de profundidad, cuatro kilómetros de largo y tres kilómetros de ancho. La población tuvo que abandonar la ciudad de Chuquicamata en 2004. A medida que la mina crecía, también aumentaba la cantidad de gases residuales y polvo. La extracción de materias primas tiene sus repercusiones. Chile también extrae litio y manganeso, y posee grandes piscifactorías de salmón y recursos marinos.
A la cabeza de la economía chilena se encuentran grupos industriales, la mayoría en manos de familias establecidas desde hace mucho tiempo. Algunas hicieron fortuna en la década de 1970, gracias en parte a las buenas relaciones con el dictador chileno Augusto Pinochet. Este documental presenta la empresa familiar Pérez Cruz, que posee el monopolio como proveedora de gas. La familia representa a una pequeña élite chilena que quiere defender los valores tradicionales. Pero los efectos del cambio climático y la contaminación son una amenaza. Las industrias minera y textil contaminan el ecosistema del país, caracterizado por un clima extremo. En algunas regiones ya ni siquiera llueve.

"Gracias a la Vida" es una de las canciones chilenas más conocidas e interpretadas en el mundo, compuesta e interpretada por la cantautora Violeta Parra, una de las artistas que sentó las bases del movimiento artístico conocido como la Nueva Canción Chilena. "Gracias a la vida" es la canción que abre su álbum Las Últimas Composiciones (1966), el último publicado por Violeta antes de su suicidio en 1967.
Con la colaboración de sus hijos Isabel y Ángel, además del músico uruguayo Alberto Zapicán, Violeta preparó durante 1966 el disco que se transformaría en Las Últimas Composiciones. Se trata de un álbum que, de acuerdo a algunos especialistas, presenta lo mejor de su obra, conteniendo canciones como "Run Run, Se Fue Pa'l Norte", "Maldigo Del Alto Cielo", "Volver A Los 17" y "El Albertío". Este grupo de canciones fue "una suerte de epitafio adelantado, un disco de canciones tan intensas y contradictorias como su vida". Las evidencias indican que Violeta preparó cuidadosamente este disco para que se convirtiera en su última entrega. En efecto, nunca antes se habían mezclado de manera tan dramática sus emociones y sus creaciones, por lo que el trabajo resulta contradictorio y más intenso que cualquiera de los anteriores.
Abriendo el álbum, "Gracias A La Vida" ha asomado a lo largo de la historia, como una de las contradicciones más grandes de la compositora. La duda respecto a la contradicción de este himno de amor por la existencia y humanismo profundo, con un acto como el suicidio ha permanecido con los años. La canción cuenta con un acompañamiento de charango y percusión, aunque el principal protagonista es la voz de la propia Violeta que, en las siete estrofas de la canción, se dedica a agradecer la existencia, por las diversas bendiciones que ha recibido: la vista, el sonido, el lenguaje, la marcha, el corazón, y finalmente la risa y el llanto, que forman, según reconoce, la materia prima "de su propio canto". Las estrofas están compuestas por cinco versos dodecasílabos cada una (excepto la última), y rima asonante en cada verso. Cada estrofa comienza con el motivo que impulsa la canción "Gracias a la vida que me ha dado tanto". La última estrofa es la única que cuenta con seis versos, y es abierta y cerrada por el verso principal de la canción.
Posteriormente, la misma Violeta se declararía satisfecha con esta composición: "Creo que las canciones más lindas, las más maduras (perdónenme que les diga canciones lindas habiéndolas hecho yo, pero qué quieren ustedes, soy huasa, y digo las cosas sencillamente como las siento), son "Gracias a la Vida", "Volver a los 17" y "Run Run Se Fue Pa'l Norte".7 Presentaría su canción en sus espectáculos de la Carpa de La Reina, hasta poco antes de su suicidio, acaecido en febrero de 1967.

Violeta Isabel Cereceda Parra (born 29 September 1939), better known as Isabel Parra, is a famous Chilean singer-songwriter and interpreter of Latin American musical folklore.
Parra was born in Chile in 1939 and began her career in music at the age of 13 when she made her first recording with her world-renowned mother, the folklorist Violeta Parra. She has since interpreted and recorded the songs of some of the most famous Latin American folk singers. After the September 11, 1973 Chilean coup d’etat she lived in exile in Argentina and France for many years. She returned to Chile when democracy returned to her country.
Parra has toured extensively during her career and was a distinctive figure in the Nueva Canción Chilena (New Chilean Song) movement. Isabel Parra is also the sister of the famous folk singer Ángel Parra and the niece of the famous poet Nicanor Parra.

Chile is going through a social and environmental crisis that is fracturing society. The wealthy nation is undergoing a migratory crisis on an unprecedented scale. Shantytowns are multiplying as a result, creating unprecedented societal tension.
Chile possesses huge mineral wealth and is an export giant. The country produces the most copper in the world, and is home to one of the globe’s largest open-pit mines, the Chuquicamata mine. Located in the Atacama Desert, this mine is one kilometer deep, four kilometers long and three kilometers wide. The town of Chuquicamata had to be abandoned in 2004: as the mine grew, so did levels of waste gas and dust in the air. The extraction of raw materials has many downsides.
Chile also mines lithium and manganese and holds some of the most productive salmon farms and marine resources in the world.
At the head of this economy are major industrial groups. Most are owned by old Chilean families. Some made their fortunes in the 70s, thanks to close ties with General Pinochet’s regime. The film presents the Pérez Cruz family business, which has a monopoly on gas distribution. They are typical of a small Chilean elite that is intent on defending traditional values.
But the impact of climate change and pollution represents a threat. The mining and textile industries are putting pressure on the ecosystem in a nation that grapples with extreme weather. In some regions, it no longer rains.

Chile atraviesa una crisis social y ecológica que amenaza con dividir a la sociedad. Este rico país está experimentando una crisis migratoria de dimensiones sin precedentes. Cada vez surgen más barrios marginales y aumenta la incertidumbre social.
Este país posee enormes recursos minerales y es una potencia exportadora. Chile produce la mayor cantidad de cobre del mundo. La mina de Chuquicamata, en el desierto de Atacama, es una de las minas a cielo abierto más grandes del mundo: un kilómetro de profundidad, cuatro kilómetros de largo y tres kilómetros de ancho. La población tuvo que abandonar la ciudad de Chuquicamata en 2004. A medida que la mina crecía, también aumentaba la cantidad de gases residuales y polvo. La extracción de materias primas tiene sus repercusiones. Chile también extrae litio y manganeso, y posee grandes piscifactorías de salmón y recursos marinos.
A la cabeza de la economía chilena se encuentran grupos industriales, la mayoría en manos de familias establecidas desde hace mucho tiempo. Algunas hicieron fortuna en la década de 1970, gracias en parte a las buenas relaciones con el dictador chileno Augusto Pinochet. Este documental presenta la empresa familiar Pérez Cruz, que posee el monopolio como proveedora de gas. La familia representa a una pequeña élite chilena que quiere defender los valores tradicionales. Pero los efectos del cambio climático y la contaminación son una amenaza. Las industrias minera y textil contaminan el ecosistema del país, caracterizado por un clima extremo. En algunas regiones ya ni siquiera llueve.

Filled with fresh produce, meats, and delicious snacks, Anthony and Jorge grab sopapillas and mote con huseillo for a quick meal. Then at Carmen’s, a food stall in the neighboring market, the pair enjoy caldopata (hoof soup), chunchules (fried intestines), and pastel de choco (corn pie). Later, Jorge and Tony drive up the Chilean coast, stopping to enjoy a completo, Chile's version of a hot dog with the works.
