UK election: Will alliance with DUP impact Northern Ireland peace process?
The result of the United Kingdom's election has thrown into question Northern Ireland's peace process.
The province had been governed by a regional power-sharing adminstration - led by the Irish nationalist Sinn Fein party and staunchly pro-union DUP - which collapsed in January.
And now a likely alliance between the DUP and Conservatives in Westminster has led some to doubt whether UK Prime Minister Theresa May's government can still be considered neutral when it comes to rebuilding trust in Northern Irish politics.

N Ireland unionists fear Scottish independence
Nowhere in the UK is the fear of Scotland breaking off from the rest of the UK as pronounced as in protestant, unionist Northern Ireland.
Many there have Scottish heritage, and feel betrayed by the Scots' nationalist cause.

A United Ireland? Some Northern Ireland Unionist figures 'ready to talk' unification
The thorny question of the Irish border after Brexit was on the agenda when the Prime Minister met the Irish Taoiseach at a summit today. Mr Varadkar warned that a possible Brexit deal could collapse if Britain doesn't say how it plans to keep the border open. And if a collapse led to a hard Brexit, could the outcome for Ireland be even more unexpected?
Channel 4 News has learned that some respected figures from the liberal wing of unionism are now ready to talk with the government in Dublin about Irish unity - and even a border poll.

Annual Northern Ireland Unionists march stirs tension
It is one of the most divisive days in Northern Ireland's calendar, when Unionists celebrate their Protestant heritage.
But Republicans want the province to be part of a united Ireland and accuse them of using the event to stir tensions.
There are even more challenges this year, because the province is in political limbo.

It is one of the most divisive days in Northern Ireland's calendar, when Unionists celebrate their Protestant heritage.
But Republicans want the province to be part of a united Ireland and accuse them of using the event to stir tensions.
There are even more challenges this year, because the province is in political limbo.

Part 2 - https://youtu.be/d1e-nUY-P0A
Protestant couples from Belfast in Northern Ireland travel south to spend time in the Republic of Ireland and experience life across the border.
The six Unionist couples are: Fred and Molly Otley, Sam and Ann Egerton, Alfie and Elsie Large, Bill and Betty Brown, Alec and Ella Hill and Jim and Anne Smith.
Will seeing life over the border and meeting the people there change some preconceived ideas?
Twenty-nine year old Fred Otley and his wife Molly live in west Belfast. Fred is a lorry driver with Harland and Wolff.
Before the Troubles ever started I had a good relationship with down south, so much so I went down there as pipe bands, I’m a pipe band man. Now I wouldn’t put my foot in it, normally, only for this programme.
Sam Egerton has lived all his life in east Belfast. His father worked in a shipyard and he has relations are in the Ulster Defence Association (UDA). Sam has
Become more hardened towards men of violence on both sides.
His wife Ann does not take much interest in politics and finds she disagrees with her husband on some points but
Otherwise I would just sit and listens and take it all in.
Alfie Large is an Orangeman from Ravenhill Road area of Belfast.
It’s not the south I fear, it’s the people who are wanted up here, that have gone down south and they’re safe down there.
His wife Elsie grew up without any idea of differences between Protestant and Catholics.
The first time I ever learnt the word Fenian was when I started to go with my husband.
Bill Brown was born and raised in the Shankill Road in west Belfast.
I always believed there was always a certain amount of animosity towards the Northern people both Protestant and Catholic, because the Northern Ireland people are different although the Northern Catholic tries the retain the same cultural background as their counterpart in the south.
His wife Betty is a proud Ulster woman who does not think the south has any jurisdiction over her. She is convinced people in the Republic have no freedom.
You haven’t the freedom to think, you’re a puppet on a string, you can’t even read a dirty book. I’m not advocating that you do read a dirty book but if I wanted to read one I don’t think anybody should tell me not to. I’m not afraid of republicanism.
Alec Hill is a fitter by trade who takes an interest in his trade union and the Orange Order.
I have been down south not dozens but hundreds of times prior to all these Troubles.
His wife Ella was raised to respect the Queen.
Jim Smith believes the Catholic church
Exerts far too great an influence, not only over it’s only members, but also over other religious groupings who happen to be a minority.
His wife Anne leaves politics to her husband and is looking forward to her first trip down south although
I expect to find an awful lot of poverty but there again as I say I might be wrong.
‘Down There’ was broadcast on 12 July 1973. The reporter is Tom McGurk.

The Radharc team visited Derry in the summer of 1964 to look at accusations of discrimination against the Catholic population in housing and political representation.
The programme was deemed too sensitive to be broadcast in 1964 and it would be 25 years later before it was shown on RTÉ.
For one of the first times the programme was presented by a lay person Patrick Cunningham, a young UCD graduate. Interviewed for the programme are Frank McCauley of the Catholic Registration Association, Eddie McAteer and James Doherty of the Nationalist Party, Paddy Friel, a school teacher (father of playwright Brian Friel), and Dr Jim McCabe of the Hospitals Appointments Board.
It would be 25 years before the programme was broadcast. Explaining this Joe Dunn wrote,
“The programme was edited and being prepared for transmission by the end of ’64. But very early in the new year word came from the programme controller to say that he would prefer not to broadcast it. The reason given was that it would be inopportune to show it when the Taoiseach was meeting the Prime Minister of Northern Ireland for the first time.” He finished the article by saying,
“And if anyone is surprised that no Unionist is interviewed in the programme, then I should perhaps point out that we could not persuade any Unionist to participate!”
