How To Find The Inverse of a Function
This algebra 2 and precalculus video tutorial explains how to find the inverse of a function using a very simple process. First, replace f(x) with y. Next, switch x with y. Finally, solve for the y variable and that's it. This video contains examples and practice problems that include fractions, radicals, square roots, cube roots, linear functions, and cubic functions.

Introduction to Inverse Functions
This algebra video tutorial provides a basic introduction into inverse functions. it explains how to find the inverse function by switching the x and y variables. It also explains how to prove if two functions are inverses of each by checking to see if the composite functions of f(g(x)) and g(f(x)) are equal to x. In addition, it explains how to graph the inverse function around the line y=x. Finally, it highlights the difference between the vertical line test and the horizontal line test as it relates to one to one functions and inverse functions. The vertical line test tells if a relation is a function. The horizontal line test tells you if the function is one to one and if the inverse relation is a function.

How to Find the Inverse of a Function (NancyPi)
MIT grad shows how to find the inverse function of any function, if it exists. The inverse function is the reverse of your original function. It undoes whatever your function did. If your function takes x and gives you y, then the inverse function takes that y and gives you back x. Nancy formerly of MathBFF explains the steps.

Finding the inverse of a function
👉 Learn how to find the inverse of a linear function. A linear function is a function whose highest exponent in the variable(s) is 1. The inverse of a function is a function that reverses the "effect" of the original function. One important property of the inverse of a function is that when the inverse of a function is made the argument (input) of a function, the result is x.
Given a function, say f(x), to find the inverse of the function, we first change f(x) to y. Next, we change all x to y and y to x. and then we solve for y. The obtained solution for y is the inverse of the original function.

MIT grad shows how to find the inverse function of any function, if it exists. The inverse function is the reverse of your original function. It undoes whatever your function did. If your function takes x and gives you y, then the inverse function takes that y and gives you back x. Nancy formerly of MathBFF explains the steps.

How to find inverse functions: There are three steps to finding the inverse function, if it exists. The first step is to replace the f(x) with just the variable y. Second, swap the x and y variables everywhere they appear in the equation. Third, solve for y again so that you have just "y=" on one side of the equation. If this relation is a function, you can then replace the y with the "f inverse x" notation, or f^-1(x). To know if it is a function, use the Vertical Line Test or consider the form of the equation. Remember that in a function equation, for every x you input into the equation, there can only be one corresponding y value. For an example problem, jump to 00:43 in the video.

Algebra II on Khan Academy: Your studies in algebra 1 have built a solid foundation from which you can explore linear equations, inequalities, and functions. In algebra 2 we build upon that foundation and not only extend our knowledge of algebra 1, but slowly become capable of tackling the BIG questions of the universe. We'll again touch on systems of equations, inequalities, and functions...but we'll also address exponential and logarithmic functions, logarithms, imaginary and complex numbers, conic sections, and matrices. Don't let these big words intimidate you. We're on this journey with you!
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
