Occupational safety and health (OSH) also commonly referred to as occupational health and safety (OHS) or workplace health and safety (WHS) is an area concerned with the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work or employment. The goals of occupational safety and health programs include to foster a safe and healthy work environment. OSH may also protect co-workers, family members, employers, customers, and many others who might be affected by the workplace environment. In the United States the term occupational health and safety is referred to as occupational health and occupational and non-occupational safety and includes safety for activities outside work.
In common-law jurisdictions, employers have a common law duty to take reasonable care for the safety of their employees. Statute law may build upon this to impose additional general duties, introduce specific duties and create government bodies with powers to regulate workplace safety issues: details of this will vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development
The Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development, also called Framework Programmes or abbreviated FP1 through FP7 with "FP8" being named "Horizon 2020", are funding programmes created by the European Union/European Commission to support and foster research in the European Research Area (ERA). The specific objectives and actions vary between funding periods. In FP6 and FP7 focus was still in technological research, in Horizon 2020 the focus is in innovation, delivering economic growth faster and delivering solutions to end users that are often governmental agencies.
Background
Conducting European research policies and implementing European research programmes is an obligation under the Amsterdam Treaty, which includes a chapter on research and technological development. The programmes are defined by Commission civil servants that are aided by various official advisory group and lobby groups. E.g. to advise the European Commission on the overall strategy to be followed in carrying out the Information and Communication Technology thematic priority, the Information Society Technologies Advisory Group (ISTAG) was set up.
This lesson provides a brief overview of general industrial safety. We will discuss emergency preparedness, First Aid/CPR/AED, lockout and tag out procedures, personal protective equipment, as well as special case industrial safety scenarios like work at heights, confined spaces, and fluid power systems. Additionally we’ll discuss laws, codes, and governing bodies associated with industrial safety. This lecture will not cover electrical safety, a topic worthy of another independent discussion which necessitates at least a basic understanding of Ohm’s Law.

As various industries are evolving, more chemicals are used and state-of-the-art facilities are rapidly introduced. As a result, industrial workers are exposed to a broader range of risks. Unfortunately, Korea has infamously recorded the highest number of industrial accidents among OECD countries. Therefore, the safety of industrial sites needs to be improved urgently.
Against this backdrop, various industrial safety technologies are being developed to help avoid accidents. In order to minimize any damages that can be incurred from falling accidents, airbag vests have been developed. This airbag vest is designed to inflate within 0.2 seconds as soon as it detects fall. Also, to raise the rate of people wearing protective equipment in high-rise buildings, the system is under development to send the warning alert when workers are not wearing personal protective equipment and to inform system managers about the circumstances.
Meanwhile, technologies are also deployed in VR for industrial safety training, where the VR reproduces similar risky environment and helps employees cope with the situation.
It allows them to conduct site safety investigations and learn how to use the dangerous equipment at industrial sites. As for the gas accident, which can cause a large explosion, gas and flame detectors can be used to minimize damages by detecting even small changes. We look into the industrial safety technology, which is protecting the lives of workers.
