Aryans: Indians, Russians, Iranians but not Germans
Y haplogroup R1a is known as the Aryan gene. The Indo Iranian branch of the Indo Europeans who inhabit Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and northern India identified themselves as Aryans. Strangely the purest form of Aryans lived and are still living in in Russia and Eastern Europe but they are called as the Slavs.
The Aryans of Iran, Afgh, Pak and Ind are no more pure Aryans as majority of their genes is non Aryan because of further invasions and heavy mixing with the local population. In north India mixing with the local population (the Dravidians) has reduced the proportion of R1a overall to 25%.
Proto-Indo-Iranian speakers, the people who later called themselves 'Aryans' in the Rig Veda and the Avesta, originated in the Sintashta-Petrovka culture (2100-1750 BCE), in the Tobol and Ishim va...

Aryan Origins | Migration Theory and Etymological History
Aryan is a designation originally meaning “civilized”, “noble”, or “free” without reference to any ethnicity. It was first applied as a self-identifying term by a migratory group of people from Central Asia later known as Indo-Iranians (who settled on the Iranian Plateau) and, later, applied to Indo-Aryans (who traveled south to settle northern India).
The word had no widespread ethnic connotation prior to the 19th century CE other than its usage by the Persians (known as 'Iranians' from 'Aryans') to distinguish themselves from their Muslim Arab conquerors in the 7th century CE, and even then (it could be argued) it was not so much an ethnic distinction as one of class and personhood. Prior to the conquest, Persia had been “the land of the Aryans” and, afterwards, a term was coined for no...

In October 2019, two scientific reports were out. Both of them talked about how North Indians and South Indians came to the Indian subcontinent and threw light on the Aryan Invasion Theory. But how different media houses projected the findings was interesting.
While one side said Aryan Invasion Theory has been debunked and all the Indians came to India at once, the other side claimed the theory has been upheld and South Indians and North Indians have originated differently.
The truth lies somewhere in between. We dug out the findings of the papers to understand how humans actually came to India, are South Indians and North Indians different genetically ...

What on Earth Happened to the Aryans?
Just who exactly were the “Aryans” and what happened to this enigmatic, yet supremely influential group of people? Although many people today use the term Aryan when referring to their ancestors of ancient history, the label is quite warped and distorted by modern politics, so I encourage you to look at this without any emotional attachment.
Today, we'll be discussing not only how the Aryans have impacted the ethnolinguistic groups of South Asia, but how other migrations, such as the Dravidians, Tibetans, Muslims, Europeans, Africans and others have shaped the landscape of all South Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives. Thanks for watching!

Indo-Aryans - Ancestral North Indians
Iranian Farmers. Much of the rest of Indian DNA comes from the Middle East, with some input from the Central Asian steppe. Originally, this genetic population was labeled Ancestral North Indian (ANI), since this genetic component is more prominent in North India. However, it is also a deliberate misnomer, chosen for political reasons so as not to offend Hindu nationalists, that obscures the non-Indian origin of these people. Humanity was much more diverse in terms of languages and physical features before the spread of agriculture and animal husbandry a few thousand years ago. For example, ancient Europeans had dark skin and blue eyes. But as a result of agriculture in the Near East and China, farmers fanned out from these regions, spread their languages, and displaced or assimilated the n...

How a culture you never heard of influenced the Indo Aryan Migrations and the entirety of history
The Maps used in this video are from https://indo-european.eu/. You can also find a lot of reliable and well sourced evidence about the Indo-Europeans genetic and linguistic wise from this site.
When we talk about the Indo Iranians and the Indo Aryan migration into India, we often think of it as a single migration event, but we forget some very important details about it, like how a lost central Asian civilization influenced and shaped their culture. Let’s rewind back. Around 4000 BCE, the Indo Europeans emerged in the Pontic-Caspian steppes. These people were ancestral to every Indo European group today, and their culture heavily revolved around horses. They spoke a Language called Proto-Indo-European. Words for mother, father, brother, sister, horse, and fire, in every other Indo Europ...

The Aryans of Iran, Afgh, Pak and Ind are no more pure Aryans as majority of their genes is non Aryan because of further invasions and heavy mixing with the local population. In north India mixing with the local population (the Dravidians) has reduced the proportion of R1a overall to 25%.
Proto-Indo-Iranian speakers, the people who later called themselves 'Aryans' in the Rig Veda and the Avesta, originated in the Sintashta-Petrovka culture (2100-1750 BCE), in the Tobol and Ishim valleys, east of the Ural Mountains. It was founded by pastoralist nomads from the Abashevo culture (2500-1900 BCE), ranging from the upper Don-Volga to the Ural Mountains, and the Poltavka culture (2700-2100 BCE), extending from the lower Don-Volga to the Caspian depression.
The Sintashta-Petrovka culture, associated with R1a-Z93 and its subclades, was the first Bronze Age advance of the Indo-Europeans west of the Urals, opening the way to the vast plains and deserts of Central Asia to the metal-rich Altai mountains. The Aryans quickly expanded over all Central Asia, from the shores of the Caspian to southern Siberia and the Tian Shan, through trading, seasonal herd migrations, and looting raids.
Horse-drawn war chariots seem to have been invented by Sintashta people around 2100 BCE, and quickly spread to the mining region of Bactria-Margiana (modern border of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan). Copper had been extracted intensively in the Urals, and the Proto-Indo-Iranians from Sintashta-Petrovka were exporting it in huge quantities to the Middle East. They appear to have been attracted by the natural resources of the Zeravshan valley for a Petrovka copper-mining colony was established in Tugai around 1900 BCE, and tin was extracted soon afterwards at Karnab and Mushiston. Tin was an especially valued resource in the late Bronze Age, when weapons were made of copper-tin alloy, stronger than the more primitive arsenical bronze. In the 1700's BCE, the Indo-Iranians expanded to the lower Amu Darya valley and settled in irrigation farming communities (Tazabagyab culture). By 1600 BCE, the old fortified towns of Margiana-Bactria were abandoned, submerged by the northern steppe migrants. The group of Central Asian cultures under Indo-Iranian influence is known as the Andronovo horizon, and lasted until 800 BCE.
The Indo-Iranian migrations progressed further south across the Hindu Kush. By 1700 BCE, horse-riding pastoralists had penetrated into Balochistan (south-west Pakistan). The Indus valley succumbed circa 1500 BCE, and the northern and central parts of the Indian subcontinent were taken over by 500 BCE. Westward migrations led Old Indic Sanskrit speakers riding war chariots to Assyria, where they became the Mitanni rulers from circa 1500 BCE. The Medes, Parthians and Persians, all Iranian speakers from the Andronovo culture, moved into the Iranian plateau from 800 BCE. Those that stayed in Central Asia are remembered by history as the Scythians, while the Yamna descendants who remained in the Pontic-Caspian steppe became known as the Sarmatians to the ancient Greeks and Romans.
The Indo-Iranian migrations have resulted in high R1a frequencies in southern Central Asia, Iran and the Indian subcontinent. The highest frequency of R1a (about 65%) is reached in a cluster around Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and northern Afghanistan. In India and Pakistan, R1a ranges from 15 to 50% of the population, depending on the region, ethnic group and caste. R1a is generally stronger is the North-West of the subcontinent, and weakest in the Dravidian-speaking South (Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh) and from Bengal eastward. Over 70% of the Brahmins (highest caste in Hindusim) belong to R1a1, due to a founder effect.
Maternal lineages in South Asia are, however, overwhelmingly pre-Indo-European. For instance, India has over 75% of "native" mtDNA M and R lineages and 10% of East Asian lineages. In the residual 15% of haplogroups, approximately half are of Middle Eastern origin. Only about 7 or 8% could be of "Russian" (Pontic-Caspian steppe) origin, mostly in the form of haplogroup U2 and W (although the origin of U2 is still debated). European mtDNA lineages are much more common in Central Asia though, and even in Afghanistan and northern Pakistan. This suggests that the Indo-European invasion of India was conducted mostly by men through war. The first major settlement of Indo-Aryan women was in northern Pakistan, western India (Punjab to Gujarat) and northern India (Uttar Pradesh), where haplogroups U2 and W are the most common today.

Prior to the conquest, Persia had been “the land of the Aryans” and, afterwards, a term was coined for non-Aryans.
'Aryan' became associated with ethnicity and, especially, with light-skinned (Caucasian) superiority, only after Western European scholars began translating, and often misinterpreting, Sanskrit texts in the 18th and more extensively in the 19th centuries CE. Theories had been advanced earlier regarding a correlation between Sanskrit and European languages, but this concept was popularized by the Anglo-Welsh philologist Sir William Jones (l. 1746-1794 CE) in 1786 CE who claimed there was a common source for these languages which he called Proto-Indo-European.
Jones' claim inspired later writers to identify this “common source” and encouraged the French elitist Joseph Arthur de Gobineau (l. 1816-1882 CE) to develop the racist theories concerning “Aryan Blood” and White Supremacy which would become popularized in Germany through the works of Houston Stewart Chamberlain (l. 1855-1927 CE), the British-born political philosopher who would become Adolf Hitler's mentor and inspiration as well as informing the ideology and work of Alfred Rosenberg (l. 1893-1946 CE) which empowered the Nazi Party in Germany c. 1930-1945 CE.
Jones' claim would also influence the work of the German philologist Max Muller (l. 1823-1900 CE) who, in attempting to identify this “common source” via the Rig Veda and the history of the Indus Valley Civilization, created the myth of an Aryan Invasion of the region which claimed light-skinned Aryans conquered darker-skinned indigenous people and established high civilization; an interpretation of his work which Muller himself never intended and, in fact, repudiated.
The work of Gobineau, Chamberlain, and the Aryan Invasion claim would be embraced by the British throughout the 19th and 20th centuries CE to justify their control of India as they were the “Aryans” – a superior race – who were bringing culture and civilization to the less fortunate. This view was encouraged and popularized by the work of the British archaeologist Sir Mortimer Wheeler (l. 1890-1976 CE) who excavated the ancient Indus Valley Civilization cities of Harappa and Mohenjo-daro and claimed his finds supported Muller's Aryan Invasion theory. Just as the fair-skinned Aryans of old had brought civilization to India, Wheeler claimed, so now had the British.
Most of Wheeler's work has been discredited in the modern day, as has Muller's invasion theory, and the works of every contributor to a definition of Aryan as referencing Caucasian have equally been dismissed as either misguided, misinterpretations, or intentionally racist. In the present day, the term is understood to properly refer to the early Indo-Iranian and Indo-Aryan migratory group, possibly originally from the region of the Ural River or, according to some scholars, to the Indo-Iranians only based on the continued usage of the term by the great Persian Empires of the Near East.

We dug out the findings of the papers to understand how humans actually came to India, are South Indians and North Indians different genetically and how politics has been complicating our understanding of India's evolution.

But as a result of agriculture in the Near East and China, farmers fanned out from these regions, spread their languages, and displaced or assimilated the native populations of Europe, India, and Southeast Asia. Some farmers from western Iran, one of the homelands of agriculture, migrated east to the Indus Valley in modern Pakistan by 9,000-7,000 years ago, where they remained without further expansion for a few thousand of years because, according to geneticist Razib Khan, “the West Asian agricultural toolkit [crops like wheat] was serviceable in northwestern South Asia for reasons of climate and ecology, but could not expand further east and south.”

Words for mother, father, brother, sister, horse, and fire, in every other Indo European language, were descended from the Proto-Indo-European term for those words. Around 3000 BCE or so, a branch of the Proto Indo Europeans migrated west and formed the Corded ware culture over many centuries, the ancestral group of most of Europe today. One of these sub groups, was the Fatyanovo-Balanovo culture. Over the next thousand years, they migrated farther south, changing and mutating their language on the way. By 2100 BCE, they established and formed the Sintashta culture. The language of the Sintashta was a daughter language of Proto Indo European; Proto Indo Iranian. The linguistic change occurred over many millenia. The language went through a change called the Ruki change. This rule states that the S sound becomes the Sh sound, and the K sound becomes the S sound after the consonants R, U/W, K, and I/Y. Take the work for a hundred in Proto Indo European for example: Kmtom. In Proto Indo Iranian, this became Catam, or Satam.
The Proto Indo European word for Horse, *Ekwos became *Hacwah in Proto Indo Iranian.
Similarly, *Gonu became *Jaanu, *Ghwormos became *Gharmas, *Oktow became *Hashta, and *Hngnwis became *Hagni. By the time the Sintashta culture was established, these changes had taken place. The Sintashta were none other than the Proto Indo Iranians. They were the first people to invent and use the Chariot, called *Hrathas in Proto Indo Iranian. This was a major advantage to them travel and warfare wise. Not too many centuries later, the Sintashta was followed by the Andronovo culture in Central Asia. From there, they went two paths. One to the Iranian plateau, and one to the Indian Subcontinent. But wait, there’s something we are missing here. In this area, near the Syr and Amu Darya rivers, the Indo Iranians seem to have adopted many things from local cultures such as the very culturally important Soma drink, various loanwords, and even deities. This area was a missing link in our story. This area was the home of the Oxus Civilization. You’ve probably never heard of it, and I don’t blame you. This civilization had built great fortified cities like the one at Gonur Tepe, And were a highly advanced civilization comparable to the Harappans and Mesopotamians.
