‘The Astronot’ Dream Scene #indiefilm #primevideo #astronot #independentfilm #spacefilm
Dream scene from ‘The Astronot’ film. In this scene, we filmed in a petrified forest as winter set in. I nearly took a tumble in the astronaut suit which would’ve resulted in a pricey dry cleaning bill. Thankfully, I managed to stay upright. Some great filming by director Tim Cash to capture the scene. ‘The Astronot’ streams on Prime at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083VY7P7B/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=filmhub&qid=1579169472&s=instant-video&sr=1-15

With a career that highlights the lives of those “in between”—from street children to the culturally marginalized—Oscar-nominated director Mira Nair approaches filmmaking with the “heart of a poet and the skin of an elephant.”
Learn more about this class, Mira Nair Teaches Independent Filmmaking: https://www.masterclass.com/mn
Spurred on by rejection, she’s fought to illuminate untold stories and voices since her career began as a documentary filmmaker in the late 1970s. Her first feature film, Salaam Bombay!, landed an Academy Award nomination and her Golden Lion for Monsoon Wedding made her the first Indian woman to win the Venice Film Festival’s prize for best movie.
Mira Nair furthered her fight to bring new stories and new perspectives to the film industry in 2004 by founding a free film school in Uganda to train and launch new, diverse talent. The Maisha Film Lab’s mantra follows Mira’s oft-repeated sentiment: “If we don’t tell our own stories, no one else will.”
Mira Nair’s MasterClass on independent filmmaking will teach you to embrace the power in your own roots, to refine and develop your unique voice and style, to create cinematically rich films with limited resources, to elicit powerful emotional performances from actors and non-actors, to effectively lead a set, to build your creative community, and to protect and maintain your creative vision.
Through 17 video lessons and a customized workbook tailored to each chapter, Mira teaches you to:
• Find your most powerful idea
• Refine your unique voice as a filmmaker
• Draw the best from actors, professional or not
• Effectively run a set and lead a crew
• Strategically select locations
• Choose the most powerful action scenes
• Build a bank of valuable imagery
• Take advantage of “cheap time”
• Thoughtfully approach production and costume design
• Incorporate sound and music that elevates
• Preserve the authenticity of your story and still resonate with wider audiences

Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - http://amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - http://amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post http://amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - http://amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - http://amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - http://amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - https://goo.gl/56LnpM

Dream scene from ‘The Astronot’ film. In this scene, we filmed in a petrified forest as winter set in. I nearly took a tumble in the astronaut suit which would’ve resulted in a pricey dry cleaning bill. Thankfully, I managed to stay upright. Some great filming by director Tim Cash to capture the scene. ‘The Astronot’ streams on Prime at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083VY7P7B/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=filmhub&qid=1579169472&s=instant-video&sr=1-15
