Billboard Hot Country Songs is a music chart published by Billboard magazine in the United States, ranking the most popular country songs. It is one of the most prestigious and influential country music charts globally, providing a measure of the most played, sold, and listened-to country songs. The chart was launched on January 8, 1944. Originally known as ""Most Played Juke Box Folk Records,"" it has undergone several name and methodology changes over the years.
The methodology for determining the positions on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart has evolved over time. Currently, the ranking of songs on the chart is based on three main components: radio airplay, sales, and streaming. Radio airplay measures the audience reach of the songs on U.S. country radio stations. Sales include both physical and digital sales of the songs. Streaming accounts for the number of times the songs are played on streaming platforms. These components are combined to calculate each song's position on the chart every week.
The first song to reach the number one position on the then-called ""Most Played Juke Box Folk Records"" was ""Pistol Packin' Mama"" by Al Dexter, on January 8, 1944. Over the years, the chart's name changed several times, including ""Most Played in Juke Boxes"" and ""Hot Country Singles,"" before becoming ""Hot Country Songs."" Originally, the chart was based solely on jukebox plays. In 1958, the methodology was updated to include radio airplay and single sales. In 2012, the methodology was further modified to incorporate streaming data.
The Billboard Hot Country Songs chart plays a crucial role in the country music industry, influencing which songs receive more exposure and, consequently, greater commercial success. It has seen numerous record-breaking achievements by various artists. For instance, George Strait holds the record for the most number-one songs on the chart, with 44 hits. The chart continues to be an essential reference for measuring the success of country songs and an important indicator of trends in the genre."

It has seen numerous record-breaking achievements by various artists. For instance, George Strait holds the record for the most number-one songs on the chart, with 44 hits. The chart continues to be an essential reference for measuring the success of country songs and an important indicator of trends in the genre."

The Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, launched on January 8, 1944, ranks the most popular country songs in the U.S. Initially named "Most Played Juke Box Folk Records," the chart has undergone several name and methodology changes. It now combines data from radio airplay, sales, and streaming to determine rankings. The first number-one song was "Pistol Packin' Mama" by Al Dexter. The chart evolved from jukebox plays to include radio airplay and sales in 1958, and streaming data in 2012. It remains a key indicator of success and trends in country music, with George Strait holding the record for the most number-one hits.

Yeeeeee Haaawwwww mungojerry311 has put up a Country Chart from 1985 ! Here is the link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11SjVyyj4dg And don't miss his early 60's #1 Pop Hits too :)
We are getting closer to the end of the year !!! Slowly but surely...
Again, Lewis has made his prediction for the December 9th, 1978 chart and here it is ....
10 songs debut in the Top 60
1. If I Had It To Do All Over Again - Stoney Edwards
2. You Were Worth Waiting For - Don King
3. How I Love You (In The Morning) - Peggy Sue
4. Stone Wall (Around Your Heart) - Gary Stewart
5. How Deep In Love Am I? - Johnny Russell
6. Old Flame, New Fire - Hank Williams Jr.
7. The Girl At The End Of The Bar - John Anderson
8. Fooled Around And Fell In Love - Mundo Earwood
9. Maybellene - George Jones and Johnny Paycheck (Top 60 debut)
10. Come On In - Oak Ridge Boys (Highest Debut in the Top 60 and Top 100)
Biggest Movers:
You Don't Bring Me Flowers - Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius
Why Have You Left The One You Left Me For - Crystal Gayle
I Just Can't Stay Married To You - Cristy Lane
I Really Got The Feeling/Baby I'm Burnin' - Dolly Parton
Oldest Single In The Top 60:
Probably "Sleeping Single In A Double Bed" - Barbara Mandrell - 14 weeks in the Top 60
If not "Sweet Desire/Old Fashioned Love" - The Kendalls and "That's What You Do To Me" - Charly McClain both of which have spent 12 weeks in the Top 60.
So how did I do with these predictions? Do you think that there will be 10 songs that debut this week in the Top 60?
Lewis (drummerbraves)
Well Lewis :) Let's see ? And I forgot to note, I used the wrong album cover for the current single by The Statler Brothers in my last video. It was from their 1978 Album "Entertainers...On And Off The Record. I have Lewis to thank for the correction and those noted in the video :)
Back in 1971 , a woman peaked at #52 with "Country Girl With Hot Pants On" .... and that was her last time in the TOP 60. But this week she finally scores her 1rst Top Ten Hit ! What is the longest running #1 Single by a Female in the 1970's ? Hint : It's a tie ! and a man debuts at #10 on the Country Album Chart with his 14th Top Ten Album to date !
Last week: Kenny Rogers was up 2 to #3 with "The Gambler". Up a notch to #2 "On My Knees" by Charlie Rich (With Janie Fricke) and up 1 to #1 "I Just Want to Love You" by Eddie Rabbitt. Will Eddie Rabbitt keep wishing at #1 or will Charlie Rich get up off his knees and HOP to the TOP ???? (I'm a rapper and didn't know it ! )
7 Songs enter the Top 60 (That answers one of the predictions)
Falling out ?
Two Lonely People - Moe Bandy
Little Things Mean A Lot - Margo Smith
What Have You Got To Lose - Tom T. Hall
Juliet And Romeo - Ronnie Sessions

Country music is one of the most popular genres of music in the United States, and old country songs are appreciated by fans of all ages. No list of the top country songs of all time would be complete without the classic country music of legendary artists like Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline.
Sometimes called country western, or country and western music, classic country songs are steeped in Americana and tell the story of ordinary, loving, hard working, often hard drinking, and sometimes long-suffering people, just like many of us. Sometimes the best country songs are deceptively simple sounding in their portraits of American life, but that's what makes classic country so endearing - and so relatable.
Out of all the classic country western singers, Johnny Cash had some of the biggest crossover success. The singer/songwriter eventually tapped into rock, gospel, folk, and other genres, but is best remembered for classic country songs like "Ring of Fire," "Folsom Prison Blues," and "I Walk the Line." He and wife June Carter Cash - classic country music royalty in her own right - were together best known for their duet of "Jackson," a No. 2 hit on the Country Music charts in 1967.
Patsy Cline may now be remembered as one of the women in classic country, but she fought her for it, particularly in era that didn't accord female country western singers the same advantages of their male counterparts. Though she didn't live to fully appreciate her legacy (Cline was killed in a plane crash at age 30), her old country songs like "Crazy" and "I Fall to Pieces" are counted along with the best country songs of all time.
Hank Williams, considered by some to be the godfather of 20th century country music, performed popular country songs of his era that still influence musicians to this day. "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "Hey, Good Lookin'" are but two examples. Those old radio hits are as ingrained into American culture as apple pie.
What are your favorite country music songs that are considered classics? Vote up good country songs from the best of old country music, or add one that makes you cherish the best classic country songs. If you like both older and newer country music, vote on the best country artists of all time.

Will this annoying winter ever end ? A 3rd ice storm blew into Dallas last week and I had been oh so careful not to slip on the ice the first 2 times. Not so lucky this time though...... I didn't just slip on the ice....my feet flew out from under me so fast I landed on my head ! I fell so hard It knocked my hat off and it landed about 20 feet from where I was ! You would think a fall like that would knock some sense into me ?
It didn't ! HEH HEH ! All this talk about ice ! Woo-HOO !
Where was I ?
It was anything but cold in Willie Nelson's world this week ! 3 Singles in the Top 20 and COUNT THEM ! 4 ALBUMS IN THE TOP 7 ! WOWSER !
At #2 - Always On My Mind
At #5 - Poncho & Lefty with Merle Haggard (moved up 7 to become Willie Nelson's 26th Top Ten Album.....and Merle Haggard's 34th Top Ten Album (If I'm not mistaken..Merle Haggard was leading the list of Most Top Ten Albums at this point in 1983.
At #6 - W W II with Waylon Jennings
At #7 A Winning Hand with Kris, Dolly & Brenda
That had to set some kind of record. If I had all the issues I could go back and check :(
4 Albums in the TOP 7 !!!!! 2 Singles in the TOP TEN ! Oh, I gave it away :( My bad.
Last week: Michael Murphey was up 1 to #3 with "Still Taking Chances" up 1 to #2 "Why Baby Why" by Charley Pride and up 1 to #1 "Faking Love" by T.G. Sheppard & Karen Brooks (I actually bought the 45 at Walmart $1.07 I think) Will Michael Murphey have a 2nd chance at #1 or will T.G & Karen keep Faking Love at #1 ?
6 New Songs enter the Top 60 (2 of them by Vern Gosdin ?) Ooops I spoiled it again !
And a song crashes onto the Top 100 chart at #39 !!!!! WOW OH WOW !
Falling Out ?
Poor Boy - Razzy Bailey
(Lost His Love) On Our Last Date - Emmylou Harris
You Could've Heard A Heart Break - Rodney Lay & The Wild West
With You - Charly McClain
The Jim Reeves Medley - Jim Reeves
Going Where The Lonely Go - Merle Haggard
