The Industrial Revolution (18-19th Century)
Introduction to some of the elements of the Industrial Revolution, more on this subject to come!
The economic developments of the 1800s saw the development of agrarian and handicraft economies in Europe and America transform into industrial urbanised ones.
The term to describe this phenomenon would be known as the ‘Industrial Revolution’ and was first used by French writers, but made popular by English economic historian Arnold Toynbee.

The Long 19th Century (Revolutions, Unifications, and War) - A Complete History Overview
The Long 19th Century is a jam-packed journey through the 1800s in Europe, stretching from the mid-1700s to 1914. We pick up where we left off after the Napoleonic Wars. It serves as the first episode in our Late Modern megadocumentary, and should be the first piece in our look at history across the world from 1800 - 1945.

Women in the 19th Century: Crash Course US History #16
In which John Green finally gets around to talking about some women's history. In the 19th Century, the United States was changing rapidly, as we noted in the recent Market Revolution and Reform Movements episodes. Things were also in a state of flux for women. The reform movements, which were in large part driven by women, gave these self-same women the idea that they could work on their own behalf, and radically improve the state of their own lives. So, while these women were working on prison reform, education reform, and abolition, they also started talking about equal rights, universal suffrage, temperance, and fair pay. Women like Susan B. Anthony, Carry Nation, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the Grimkés, and Lucretia Mott strove tirelessly to improve the lot of American women, and it worke...

Victorian Era Couple Live Like It's The 19th Century | Extraordinary People | New York Post
On this episode of Extraordinary People, a quirky couple is obsessed with the Victorian era. Sarah and Gabriel Chrisman wear 1880s-inspired clothing, cook with a wood stove and live their everyday lives, in Port Townsend, Washington, as if it’s the 19th century. “I found a way to do a little bit of the time travel,” said Sarah, a writer. She and her librarian husband — who rides a penny-farthing bicycle around town — hope to inspire others to pursue their dreams, whatever they may be.

19th Century Reforms: Crash Course US History #15
In which John Green teaches you about various reform movements in the 19th century United States. From Utopian societies to the Second Great Awakening to the Abolition movement, American society was undergoing great changes in the first half of the 19th century. Attempts at idealized societies popped up (and universally failed) at Utopia, OH, New Harmony, IN, Modern Times, NY, and many other places around the country. These utopians had a problem with mainstream society, and their answer was to withdraw into their own little worlds. Others didn't like the society they saw and decided to try to change it. Relatively new Protestant denominations like the Methodists and Baptists reached out to "the unchurched" during the Second Great Awakening, and membership in evangelical sects of Christian...

On September 2, 1913 a woman boarded a small rowboat in the Hudson River and set out on a fishing trip. As she fished alone in the middle of the river, she suddenly felt something hit the side of her boat.
At first she thought it was probably just some driftwood, but then she took a closer look, and to her horror, she realized that what she was looking at was a human head. Over the next several days, more body parts would be discovered and the investigation into the murder would lead to an unlikely suspect…a local priest named Father Hans Schmidt. And the world was about to learn just how evil Father Hans really is.

What Your Life Would Be Like in the 19th Century
What was life like in the 19th century? Imagine this: Your best friend lives in another city, and one day he asks you to come over urgently. Today, all you need is to buy a plane ticket, and you’ll be there in a matter of hours. But…. what if you lived in the past, where there were no smartphones or airplanes? The trip would be much more eventful.
Well, first of all, you'd have to drink a large amount of water before going to bed to wake up early. Native Americans used this method before the alarm clock was invented. In the outhouse, you would find a corn cob instead of toilet paper. Don't ask how, but a lot of people used it even after the paper appeared...

The second chapter deals with Unifications. We focus on the unification wars of Italy and Germany, but also touch on the other major states, and the Crimean War. We also take a look at the advances in science and the arts with the romantic and realist movements.
The final chapter deals with Stability. We delve into the Second Industrial Revolution, new alliances, new breakthroughs in science, new art movements with impressionism and the transition to modernist art, and as we reach the turn of the century, a new type of society called mass society, and instability in the Balkans.

Welcome to Late Modern series of the World History Summarized project! The entire project is meant to summarize broad topics in history and balances political history and events, with social/daily life, and culture. If you've watched our History of the World documentary, the project is a perfect next step. The videos are standalone, but presented in a chronological fashion. This series "the Late Modern" takes place after our megadocumentaries "The Ancient World", "The Medieval World", and the "Early Modern". It will be divided into 6 or 7 videos about the Late Modern period (c. 1800 - 1945) all over the world, and will be called Phase 4. Once these videos are completed, we will move onto Phase 5, the FINAL PHASE of the project, but this series will be considered completed, and compiled into ONE MEGA-DOCUMENTARY containing all 6 or 7 parts.

Relatively new Protestant denominations like the Methodists and Baptists reached out to "the unchurched" during the Second Great Awakening, and membership in evangelical sects of Christianity rose quickly. At the same time, Abolitionist societies were trying to free the slaves. Americans of the 19th century had looked at the world they were living in and decided to change it.

► 19th Century Photographs Brought To Life
► Welcome back everyone. If you enjoy looking at old photographs, please stay tuned for some exclusive content coming up on this video. After receiving such a good feedback on two of our earlier videos on Victorian portraits, we wanted to bring you something even more unique today. We've gathered a collection of 19th-century portraits that appear to come to life as they glide across your screen. The portraits were given a quick restoration, colorization and some facial motion, using some of the latest tools in AI technology. I hope you find this presentation enjoyable, since it was a labour of love to create. As always, we value your opinions and comments, so please don't hold back. Let's get started!
Please check the video to see fashion, clothing and hairstyle of 19th century men and women in a mixture of daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and tintypes.

In the outhouse, you would find a corn cob instead of toilet paper. Don't ask how, but a lot of people used it even after the paper appeared...

Century of Service - NOWLIN - "The President's Own" U.S. Marine Band
Written by Capt. Ryan Nowlin, U.S. Marine Band
On Aug. 13, 1918, in Washington, D.C., 40-year-old Opha May Johnson was the first of about 300 women who initially enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve (USMCR) for service during World War I. They served in clerical and administrative positions and marched in parades. “After the Armistice the women were released from active duty by mid-1919 and transferred to the in-active reserve for the duration of their enlistment. One platoon of women Marines was called back to active duty for one day on Nov. 11, 1921, to escort the Body of the Unknown Soldier to his final resting place in Arlington National Cemetery,” said Nancy Wilt, the national historian of the Women Marines Association and Director/Curator of the Women of the Corps Collection. “I hav...

Lyrics:
Get off the bus
The band and the boys and me
Yesterday it was Denver
Tonight it’s Memphis, Tennessee
Runnin’ off of cocaine
Couple hours of sleep
Can’t remember all the halls
Cause they look the same to me
Just out here makin’ a livin’
With this six string in my hand
And this 21st century honky tonk American band
Play just about anywhere
Draw it on down on a map
Different scene the same old jeans the same old pussy cats
Tell mama I miss her
And I’ll be back one day
I don’t think old Waylon Jennings
Would’ve even done it this way
Just out here makin’ a livin’ tryin’ to pay the record company man
And this 21st century honky tonk American band
And the wheels keep rollin’ on and on
And I hear them moanin’ that lonesome song
Ever since Hank sang to me
I knew I was born to be in a
21st century honky tonk American band
Little girl in Tallahassee said
Boy can I please you
We balled all night long
And I woke up with amnesia
Hey baby what’s your name
I’ll call you if I can
But I’m in a 21st century honky tonk American band
And the wheels keep rollin’ on and on
And I hear them moanin’ that lonesome song
Ever since Hank sang to me
I knew I was born to be in a
21st century honky tonk American band
And I feel like going home
I could sure use me a sunny day
And I know I’ve been away too long
Cause I’m the same but they’ve all changed

A perfect collection that encapsulates "The Italian American Golden Era" of Italian American music. Here you will experience the magic of these classic hits, heartfelt ballads and velvety vocals with the unparalleled artistry of these iconic crooners. So come with me and let us journey through these timeless sounds of the Great Italian American Songbook. Let's celebrate the great music of Italian-American singers from our Italian Heritage, we'll Feature all the major stars and maybe even a few you didn't know were Italian.
From 1947–1954, there were 25 Italian-Americans who had chart-topping hits in the world of American Popular Music. You may say that the Great American Songbook was shaped, at least in part, by these Italian interpreters. On these Videos/Playlist we'll salute the Italian-American crooners hearing both well-known standards as well as songs from their Italian heritage.
In the later twentieth century Italian American vocal artists continued to exert a major influence on popular culture in the United States. While famous Italian American singers such as Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, and Dean Martin, Louis Prima, Tony Bennett, Jerry Vale, Al Martino, Vic Damone, Connie Francis and let us not forget Russ Columbo (all Italian-American crooners owe a great deal of debt to, who was the first Italian-American crooner) were influenced by their Italian heritage in their English-Language recordings, recordings of Italian-language songs sometimes became hits for various American popular singers, such as the traditional song, "Santa Lucia," "O Sole Mio" and Maria Mari" by Giovanni Capurro and Eduardo di Capua, also "Volare," by Franco Migliacci and Domenico Modugno.
Italian-Americans continued to stay relevant in the industry during the late 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, and even to today. Artists such as Frank Zappa, Jim Croce, Bruce Springsteen, Ronnie James Dio, Peter Criss of Kiss, Madonna, Jon Bon Jovi, and Lady Gaga are all of Italian descent.

“I have tremendous respect for the women of WWI who by the thousands lined up across the country to become members of the Marine Corps and serve a country that had not given them the right to vote,” Wilt continued. “It is amazing the service of the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, the military women of WWI, and the thousands of other woman volunteers who harvested crops, rolled bandages, and knitted cold weather sweaters and mittens for units.”
Wilt wrote a letter to Marine Band Director Col. Jason K. Fettig to ask the Marine Band to honor the centennial with a march since the nearly 24,000 women Marines of World War II marched to Louis Saverino and Emil Grasser’s “March of the Women Marines” and the 1970s women Marines danced to Saverino’s “Women Marine Waltz.” Fettig agreed and selected Assistant Director Capt. Ryan Nowlin to musically mark the occasion. “I spent an hour and a half on the phone with her to get my musical ideas, all of which are inspired by the story of these first women Marines answering the nation’s call in 1918,” Nowlin said. “I wrote these melodies constantly rising in pitch to symbolize that always reaching, always growing, that determined spirit of these women who volunteered in 1918. It is truly an honor to write the march in recognition of the century of service of women in the United States Marine Corps.”
