"Holy Roller" is a term for some Christian churchgoers of the Holiness, and Pentecostal traditions. The term is sometimes used derisively by those outside these denominations, as if to describe people literally rolling on the floor in an uncontrolled manner. However, those within these Wesleyan traditions have reclaimed it as a badge of honor; for example William Branham wrote: "And what the world calls today holy-roller, that's the way I worship Jesus Christ." Gospel singer Andrae Crouch stated, "They call us holy rollers, and what they say is true. But if they knew what we were rollin' about, they'd be rollin' too."
Similar disparaging terms directed at outspoken Christians but later embraced by them include Jesus freaks or, from former centuries, Methodists, Quakers, and Shakers.
Holy Roller (foaled 18 October 1992) by the Biscay stallion Sanction out of the mare Secret Blessing, was a large AustralianThoroughbredracehorse of the mid-to late-1990s. He won 12 of his 26 races and a developed a cult following amongst Sydney race fans. Bred and owned by Woodlands Stud, Holy Roller stood 18.1 hands compared to the average thoroughbred at around 16 hands. His career highlights included wins in the Bill Ritchie Handicap and the Crystal Mile. Video of his last win, in the Waterford Crystal Mile here.
Holy Roller was born at Woodlands Stud Denman, New South Wales, where it took his dam over one hour to get him out. The foal arrived at 0240 and did not stand until 0320. Both dam and foal were exhausted and lay for almost an hour recovering. The foaling night watchman was a 6ft young man, and when the foal finally stood, he reached the mid-chest level of the watchman. Comments at the time included: "VERY big foal, enormous knees, fetlocks, etc."
His dam, Secret Blessing, was an average size mare, about 16hands, but very wide and roomy. Most of her progeny had been fairly large - her daughters tended to be wide like her, such as Genuflect, but Immense was tall and wide but not as big as her half-brother Holy Roller. His sire Sanction is a fairly tall horse, 16.1h.
Holy Roller is a retrospective compilation by The Reverend Horton Heat that was released by Sub Pop in April 1999, shortly after the band left Interscope Records amidst the label mergers of the late 1990s.

In American football, "the Holy Roller" (also known as The Immaculate Deception by San Diego Chargers fans) is the nickname given to a controversial game-winning play by the Oakland Raiders against the San Diego Chargers on September 10, 1978, at San Diego Stadium (now Qualcomm Stadium) in San Diego, California. It was officially ruled as a forward fumble that was recovered by Raiders tight endDave Casper in the end zone for a touchdown, ultimately giving Oakland the 21–20 win. However, there have been differing interpretations of how this play should have actually been ruled, and it has remained a controversial play for fans of both teams involved. The NFL amended its rules after the 1978 season in order to prevent a recurrence of the play.
The play
With 10 seconds left in the game, the Raiders had possession of the ball at the Chargers' 14-yard line, trailing 20–14. Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler took the snap and found himself about to be sacked by Chargers linebacker Woodrow Lowe on the 24-yard line. Stabler fumbled the ball forward, and it rolled towards the Chargers' goal line. Raiders running back Pete Banaszak appeared to try to recover the ball on the 12-yard line, but could not keep his footing, and pitched the ball with both hands even closer to the end zone. Raiders tight endDave Casper was the next player to reach the ball but he also evidently could not get a handle on it. He batted and kicked the ball into the end zone, where he fell on it for the game-tying touchdown as time ran out. With the ensuing extra point by placekicker Errol Mann, the Raiders won 21–20.
