Hines Edward Ward, Jr. (born March 8, 1976) is a retired South Korean-born American footballwide receiver and current NBC studio analyst who played 14 seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Georgia. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft, and he became the team's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yardage and touchdown receptions. Ward was voted MVP of Super Bowl XL, and upon retirement was one of only thirteen NFL players to have 1,000 or more career receptions.
Aside from his career in the NFL, Ward has appeared in various forms of television and film media, including the reality TV series Dancing With The Stars, and brief cameos in the 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises and in the television series, The Walking Dead. He is currently a studio analyst for NBC's Football Night in America.
"As a receiver, you just have to continue blocking to help the running backs out, and when called upon on third down and passing situations, you got to come up big like we did."
"I'm going to Disney World! And I'm taking the 'Bus'!!"
"We'll do whatever we have to do to win, ... We like catching the ball, but the big thing is getting that 'W' every week. I'll take that over anything else, any day."
"I love football. I've always said that if I'm going to play, I'm going to play it full out. I'm not going to try not to get hurt, because that's when injuries occur."
"It's great to be back - I missed it. It was just day three for me, and we're getting better. Ben is making good reads and we need to make some plays for him."
"It's really important for me. The vets aren't going to play much next week, so this is really my test before the season starts."
"It felt good. It's still only my third day of practicing and getting a chance to get out here and participate in a live game. It's good to be back."
"The fans are the reason why I play the way I play. They really appreciate the way I play the game. I missed it. I missed two weeks."
"I've got to get on the same page with him, ... Instead of doing gassers, I might as well do route-running for conditioning and catch the ball at the same time. It was tiring, but we accomplished something."
"When I signed the deal, I wasn't a Pro Bowl player, ... To go to four straight Pro Bowls, you deserve some type of raise. They said, 'Come into camp and we'll continue negotiations,' and that's why I'm here."
