Roy Hogsed (born December 24, 1919 in Flippin, Arkansas; died March 1978) was an American country music and rockabilly singer. He is best known for his song "Cocaine Blues", which he took to number 15 on the country music charts in 1948. Although he was active in the music business for only seven years, "Cocaine Blues" has been widely covered.
Hillbilly is a term (often derogatory) for people who dwell in rural, mountainous areas in the United States, primarily in Appalachia and the Ozarks. Due to its strongly stereotypical connotations, the term can be offensive to those Americans of Appalachian or Ozark heritage. "Hillbilly" first appeared in print in a 1900 New York Journal article, with the definition: "a Hill-Billie is a free and untrammeled white citizen of Alabama, who lives in the hills, has no means to speak of, dresses as he can, talks as he pleases, drinks whiskey when he gets it, and fires off his revolver as the fancy takes him." The stereotype is two-fold in that it incorporates both positive and negative traits: “Hillbillies” are often considered independent and self-reliant individuals that resist the modernization of society, but at the same time they are also defined as backward, violent, and uncivilized. Scholars argue this duality is reflective of the split ethnic identities in “white America."
The Hillbilly Tomato, also known as the "hillbilly potato leaf tomato", scientific name Solanum lycopersicum, is an heirloom cultivar originating from West Virginia in the 1800s. This fruit is considered a beefsteak tomato weighing 1-2 pounds. It is round, heavily ribbed and its skin and flesh is orange- yellow with red streaks. The flavor is described "sweet and fruity" and is low in acid.
The Hillbilly tomato plant stands anywhere from 52"-84" tall when fully established, needing 85-94 days of growth before it reaches its full maturity. The plant is a low maintenance crop and does not require extra attention as long as it is planted properly, particularly after any season of frost. It requires full sun with a minimum of six hours daily. This plant also requires water but is drought tolerant, and mulching can help to ensure an even supply of moisture to the tomato plant. There are some problems that may occur with the hillbilly tomato plant which include pests and diseases. You can control some of these problems by crop rotation.
The Hillbilly 100 is an annual dirtSuper Late Model "Crown Jewel" race held every year on Labor Day weekend. The Hillbilly Hundred, promoted by famed event promoter Carl Short, is the oldest running super late model event and brings enormous history and tradition to the state of West Virginia. Started in 1967, the event was held at Pennsboro Speedway every year until 1998 when the race was moved to Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia. The race was moved to West Virginia Motor Speedway in 2010 then moved to I-77 Raceway Park in 2012 where it is currently held. The 2009 event had a purse in excess of $125,000, with $1,000 to start the feature and $41,000 to win. As of 2015 the Hillbilly 100 pays $25,000 to win. The event is currently sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
Other events included in the two-day Hillbilly weekend are:

Roy Hogsed - Its More Fun That Way
Roy Hogsed (1919-1978) forged one of the most original sounds in postwar country music, a tight and exciting small group sound that often anticipated the energy and drive of rockabilly and rock 'n' roll. He is best remembered for his hit version of the notorious "Cocaine Blues" and most identified with the accordion and guitar lead and slapped-bass rhythm of his original Rainbow Riders Trio. Ironically, however, some of his best work, like "Snake Dance Boogie," "Let Your Pendulum Swing" and "Ain't A Bump In The Road" occurred in a looser, slightly larger band context. A good-time feel and infectious joy characterized his performances from start to finish. 50s Hillbilly Version of American Patriotic Songs & Anti-Communist Song - Capitol Records - 1201 (1950) The war song, "Don’t Bite the Hand That’s Feeding You," was aimed at convincing immigrants of the importance of staying loyal to the United States during World War I.
The song was composed by Jimmie Morgan and the lyrics were written by Thomas Hoier.
The piece was published in New York in 1915 by Leo Feist.
Roy Clifton Hogsed (December 24, 1919, in Flippin, Arkansas - March 1978) relocated to San Diego at the beginning of his career, it was an American Country music singer.
He is best known for his song "Cocaine Blues", which he took to number 15 on the Country Music charts in 1948.
He was responsible for one of the most original sounds in post-war country music, often throwing in elements of the not-yet articulated styles of Rockabilly and Rock & Roll.
His Rainbow Riders Trio combined accordion, guitar and slapped-bass rhythm to help produce hits like his version of "Cocaine Blues."
Several other hits were made by him with a larger band format, including "Snake Dance Boogie," "Let Your Pendulum Swing," and "Ain't a Bump in the Road."
His career lasted from 1947, when he made his first singles for Coast Records to 1954, when he made his last record for Capitol.
He had a limited impact on the larger Country Music scene, largely because of his location in San Diego instead of another musical powerhouse like Nashville or L.A., but his music remains a fascinating anomaly regardless.
Although he was active in the music business for only seven years, "Cocaine Blues" has been widely covered.
Roy Hogsed co-wrote and was the first artist to record the song "Gonna Get Along Without You Now" (1951) made famous by Teresa Brewer (1952) Patience and Prudence (1956)
Skeeter Davis (1964) Trini Lopez (1967) and Viola Wills (1979).

The Arkansas-born, San Diego-based Hogsed's recording career was relatively brief, spanning 1947-54, and his greater impact may have been limited by his largely local orientation, but he left an uncommonly enjoyable legacy.
50s Hillbilly Bopper - Unissued Capitol Recording (1952) Producer Ken Nelson.
Recorded November17, 1952 at Capitol Recording Studio, 5515 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, California with Roy Hogsed (vocal, guitar, leader) Jasper Donald Hogsed (lead guitar, steel guitar, fiddle) Addison "Phil" Ransom (bass) Myron Sautier (piano) Roy Harte (drums)

Once upon a time on a dark lovers' lane Had a big jog o' whiskey and a full moon to blame I asked if you could tell me what you were thinkin' of You didn't even blush when you said" hillbilly love" I knew that you weren't jokin' when you started to proceed To take the kind of lovin' only hillbillies need But just about that time came a light from above The officer spat when he saw hillbilly love Chorus: Hillbilly love, it came from the east It ain't no kinda lovin' for no man or no beast Hillbilly love, it moved to the west It's the kinda lovin' that we all love the best They dragged me down to central, was the worst of my fears Stood me right on up in front of 12 of my peers Judge asked the sheriff what was I accused of Someone screamed when the sheriff said "hillbilly love" Sheriff gave a hand, picked the judge up off the floor Judge stood on up and said to please tell him more Sheriff said ain't kidding when push came to shove he could tell by the smell it was hillbilly love Chorus. I prayed to be delivered, I cried and then I wailed But they gave me my deliverance in the Horton County jail I'm hopin' that someday I'll get a pardon from the Gov.,
