Lincolnshire Ghosts
Lincolnshire is the venue for this chapter of the Nationwide Ghost Tour of Great Britain, by the famous Ghost Hunter and Historian, Richard Felix.
Stories which will raise the hairs on the neck of Lincolnshire people, include accounts of supernatural experiences and apparitions from most of the major towns of the county; including Lincoln, Boston, and Skegness.
Lincolnshires notoriously flat countryside has made it a natural home for many airfields, and we also recount many stories associated with ghosts that still haunt the sites of previous disasters involving pilots and ground crew.
After watching this film the viewer will understand why Lincolnshire has been dubbed the most frightening county in England.

Why is that so much hullabaloo and brouhaha about Skegness being a good town or bad to live or visit in England or the entire UK? It is not honestly not easy to ignore all those hubbubs and furor. What is more? Apologies to those who may need to know more about the Skegness in Lincolnshire. Please lend us some seconds to tell you more about this place at the center of this controversy. And that is exactly where we are starting from.

This town is 69 kilometers east of Lincoln and 35 kilometers northeast of Boston. Skegness is the largest settlement in East Lindsey while also incorporating Winthorpe and Seacroft to form a larger built-up area with the resorts of Ingoldmells and Chapel St Leonards.
Skegness is on the A52 road on which it connects with Boston and the East Midlands. It is also on the A158 road where the town connects with Lincoln. There is a Skegness railway station with trains plying the Nottingham to Skegness line, via Grantham.
Is Skegness the Worst Seaside Town in England?
We do not want to be the judge on this matter, we will propose our position so that you can choose whether or not to agree with us. We shall refer to the popular survey that sets tongues wagging. This is not the first time the poor old Skegness will be poorly rated.
However, in the most recent survey involving more than 4,000 holidaymakers, Skegness was ranked the worst seaside town in the United Kingdom. The survey asked them to rank the seaside towns they have visited. They were specifically required to rank all features of those resorts. This iconic beach resort in Lincolnshire achieved a score of just 49 percent. With that, it is at the bottom of the pile again.
It would seem difficult to agree that this traditional English seaside escape, got such a ranking. What has gone wrong and makes it look like things have gone downhill with this resort in recent years? Okay, let us look at those features rated and see if we would agree with the number of stars they were given.

https://wn.com/Skegness,_Lincolnshire_–_The_Worst_Seaside_Town_In_England
Why is that so much hullabaloo and brouhaha about Skegness being a good town or bad to live or visit in England or the entire UK? It is not honestly not easy to ignore all those hubbubs and furor. We know you must have heard about this at one time or the other; especially now when the Internet currently is agog with the debate on which one is the best seaside town and the worst seaside town in England or in the UK as a whole. And this may have caused to you wonder if truly Skegness, Lincolnshire is the worst seaside town in England, according to popular opinion. KIRTON IN LINDSEY: North Lincolnshire Parish #22 of 56
Here we have a town, situated half on top, and half on the side of the ridge known of the Lincoln Cliff, and at times on this walk around the town, that ridge and its unforgiving slope certainly come into play. The B1398 Lincoln to Scunthorpe road passes through the town, as does the B1400 which runs down the Northern side of the ridge to Messingham as the road to Cleatham
This is generally a maze of narrow, sometimes windy and sometimes footpathless streets, and every single one has something on it of interest. SCOTHERN: West Lindsey Parish #46 of 128
The village we’re visiting today has a good sense of community with over a third of respondents to a survey in the spring of 2015 stating that the aspects of life they most liked in it were the size and make-up of the village; the peacefulness and village feel and community spirit and friendliness. I can’t say I disagree with any of that, knowing the place as I do.
It’s somewhat of a compact village surrounded by countryside and fields used for a variety of agricultural purposes. The name means "the thorn-bush of the Scot or Scots", suggesting it has some links to the Scottish. Scothern" frequently appears in many records as "Scothorne". You may also see it as "Scottern".
The village has a long history and dates back to the Domesday book. Records from 1842 show that the village was a thr...

CHERRY WILLINGHAM: West Lindsey Parish #127 of 128
WEST LINDSEY PARISH #127: CHERRY WILLINGHAM
With just two left to visit in West Lindsey, we now come to Cherry Willingham, the largest one that remains, and one of Lincoln’s most residential satellite villages. Often known to the locals as Cherry, as opposed to its more formal name, Cherry Willingham lies four miles outside the Lincoln city boundary, with only the tiny Greetwell village separating it from the brand new Lincoln Eastern Bypass. Cherry Willingham is built on the northern acclivity of the Vale of Witham. Its name literally means "Homestead of the Willas people, where the Cherries grow".
Much like nearby Nettleham, Cherry is twinned with a French village, in this case Le Grand Luce in Pays de la Loire. The village has spread outwards from an original settlement which began ...

This area was historically part of the West Riding of the Parts of Lindsey. In Kelly's Directory of Lincolnshire, both the 1900 and 1913 versions list the parish as being in West Lindsey. However, West Lindsey’s boundaries would change and this area became part of North Lincolnshire in 1996. Its name stands as something of an historical testament to Lincolnshire’s old divisions
It had something called a “Bridewell” - a slang term for a correctional institution. It was partially demolished and its stone was re-used in other buildings in the town. There’s an interesting bit of local folklore pertaining to Ash Well, and there’s loads to discuss at the former RAF base to the South which is where I was able to have a go on a flight simulator.
There’s LOADS here…enjoy Kirton Lindsey – or if you will, KIRTON IN LINDSEY.

As a civil parish with town status, naturally this is one of the largest in terms of population in the district with well over 3,000 people. The name Kirton is an interesting one. It’s the “in Lindsey” part that’s intruiging.

Records from 1842 show that the village was a thriving, self-contained community with a variety of trades. It may have grown since, but the village core retains something of a medieval street pattern and properties that date largely from the 18th and 19th Century.
Richard Ellison built a Public Elementary School here in 1837. It could hold 130 children. The modern day school takes the Ellison name. There is a small garden centre, and this is the only kind of retail facility the village currently has, other than the Bottle and Glass public house and Mark Harris Commercials
Let’s not forget the Welton Oil Field. There’s a huge site with plenty of nodding donkeys here. Welcome to SCOTHERN.

The village has spread outwards from an original settlement which began behind the current Church. Iron Age remains have been found there in the past. Now very residential, Cherry is a great little commuter village – and its still growing. Running through the modern village is a railway line – the Lincoln to Grimsby line which we’ve seen countless times throughout the district.
The village can be split into three distinct areas – the two main ones being directly North and South of that line. The third area is known as Hawthorn, a small hamlet which used to be on the main road between Reepham and Lincoln, now cut off from the city by the eastern bypass.
So let’s have a walk around it, and you can bet as a local, I enjoyed every step.

GAINSBOROUGH | In todays full tour of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire we have a look around this market town and head to Gainsborough Old Hall, The Riverside Walk and the Town Centre streets to see what's here. Also watch Grantham - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txSjV32hqB4
So we head into deepest Lincolnshire for a look around Gainsborough, a quiet little market town that is situated 18 miles (29 km) north-west of Lincoln, 16 miles (26 km) south-west of Scunthorpe, 20 miles south-east of Doncaster and 39 miles (63 km) east of Sheffield.
Gainsborough is also England's furthest inland port at over 55 miles from the North Sea!
Noteable and famous people from Gainsborough include actor Dame Sybil Thorndike, actor John Alderton and Bill Podmore the TV producer of Coronation Street
Back in July 1958, BP discovered oil at Corringham, then at Gainsborough in January 1959! Am surprised JR Ewing didn't move in with Sue Ellen and take it all over 🤣
Gainsborough was capital of England and Denmark!!
Historically, Gainsborough is the "capital that never was." Towards the end of July 1013, the Dane Sweyn Forkbeard and his son and heir Cnut (Canute) arrived in Gainsborough with an army of conquest. Sweyn defeated the Anglo-Saxon opposition and King Ethelred fled the country. Sweyn was declared King of England and returned to Gainsborough. Sweyn and Cnut took up high office at the Gainsborough Castle on the site of the present-day Old Hall, while his army occupied the camp at Thonock (now known as Castle Hills). However, Sweyn died, or perhaps was killed five weeks later in Gainsborough. His son Cnut established a base elsewhere. So Gainsborough was named as capital of England and of Denmark for five weeks in the year 1013!
Gainsborough Town Council was established in 1992, and in the same year Gainsborough's first mayor was appointed.
Beside Riverside Walk are Whitton's Mill flats, which won a Royal Town Planning Institute award for the East Midlands. Marshall's Yard also received an award, for regeneration.
West Lindsey District Council had its offices at the Guildhall, Lord Street, but moved in January 2008 to a £4.3 million new-build in Marshall's Yard.
Silver Street is home to many Gainsborough shops. Elswitha Hall is the birthplace of Halford John Mackinder, founder of the Geographical Association.
A water tower in Heapham Road was built in 1897 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
Gainsborough Town Hall, which was built in 1892, is now an entertainment venue with seating for up to 150 people
