Diatonic (Greek:διατονική) and chromatic (Greek:χρωματική) are terms in music theory that are most often used to characterize scales, and are also applied to musical instruments, intervals, chords, notes, musical styles, and kinds of harmony. They are very often used as a pair, especially when applied to contrasting features of the common practice music of the period 1600–1900.
These terms may mean different things in different contexts. Very often, diatonic refers to musical elements derived from the modes and transpositions of the "white note scale" C–D–E–F–G–A–B. In some usages it includes all forms of heptatonic scale that are in common use in Western music (the major, and all forms of the minor).Chromatic most often refers to structures derived from the chromatic scale, which consists of all semitones. Historically, however, it had other senses, referring in Ancient Greek music theory to a particular tuning of the tetrachord, and to a rhythmic notational convention in mensural music of the 14th through 16th centuries.
The chromatic scale is a musical scale with twelve pitches, each a semitone above or below another. On a modern piano or other equal-tempered instrument, all the semitones have the same size (100 cents). In other words, the notes of an equal-tempered chromatic scale are equally spaced. An equal-tempered chromatic scale is a nondiatonic scale having no tonic because of the symmetry of its equally spaced notes.
The most common conception of the chromatic scale before the 13th century was the Pythagorean chromatic scale. Due to a different tuning technique, the twelve semitones in this scale have two slightly different sizes. Thus, the scale is not perfectly symmetric. Many other tuning systems, developed in the ensuing centuries, share a similar asymmetry. Equally spaced pitches are provided only by equal temperament tuning systems, which are widely used in contemporary music.
The term chromatic derives from the Greek word chroma, meaning color. Chromatic notes are traditionally understood as harmonically inessential embellishments, shadings, or inflections of diatonic notes.
Chromatic, a word ultimately derived from the Greek noun χρῶμα (khrṓma), which means "complexion" or "color", and then from the Greek adjective χρωματικός (khrōmatikós; "colored"), may refer to:
Steward is a village in Lee County, Illinois, United States. The population was 256 at the 2010 census, down from 271 in 2000.
History
Steward, Illinois, was named for Wesley Steward, who in 1855 came to this area in Alto Township to settle the land owned by his father, Marcus Steward. John Grimes built the first house in Alto Township in Plum Thicket in 1847, located east on the outskirts of the village as it is today. In 1861, Mr. Steward married and built the first farm house in the location of Steward, which is still standing. The town is located in the west central part of Alto Township and the northeast part of Lee County. Mr. Steward was influential in getting the Chicago and Iowa Railroad, now known as the Burlington Northern, through the township extending from Hinckley, Illinois to Rochelle, Illinois completed in 1870. The Village Hall on Main Street is one of the oldest buildings in existence and the jail cellsbought in 1903 and housed in the building are still one of the few reminders of the early days (not used). In 1872 Mr. Steward built the first elevator at the east end of Main Street run by steam. The history of the elevators in Steward over the years is a story in itself. The first house in Steward after the town's formation is on John Street, also standing today, built in 1872.

GUITAR SCALES Made Easy
Music theory and guitar go together like peanut butter and a cookbook. While it's totally possible to surpass the beginner level of guitar without music theory, you can massively speed up your progress and understanding with some basic music theory.
If that sounds like something you want to do, you came to the right place!
In this video we break down the chromatic scale, the major scale, how to build triads, and basic guitar intervals. It's a lot of information as fast as possible, but also in a very easy to understand way (hopefully).
In future videos we'll be breaking down the circle of fifths, the CAGED system and more, but in order to understand that, you have to start here. Well you could also start with theory books, or go to music school, or another alternative, but this is a go...

Remember to share this with someone who is struggling with chromatic scales whether you are a student or teacher!
There are 2 rules to playing chromatic scales:
1. Play only with the fingers 1, 2 and 3.
2. Always play black notes with the finger 3.

Well you could also start with theory books, or go to music school, or another alternative, but this is a good place to start.
Anyway, enjoy. Watch twice if you want. Send to your friends, or your mom, or your friend's mom.
