1: The Habsburg Monarchy
In parts one and two of 'Anatomy of Austria-Hungary'(Anatomy of the Emperor's Throne), we provide an overarching 'history of events' before delving into the regional histories of the composite lands that compromised the 'Kaisertum' (Austria/Austria-Hungary), in a manner inspired by Fernand Braudel's Identity of France.
In this episode, we discuss the long history of the possessions of the Imperial House of Habsburg; from their ascension as Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire until the early reign of Franz Joseph I and the battle of Koniggratz (1452-1866).

The Rise and Fall of Austria or the Habsburg Empire / Österreich
Austria was ruled by the Habsburg dynasty from 1278/1282 to 1918. Therefore, historical Austria is also known as the Habsburg Empire or the Habsburg Monarchy. The Habsburgs made Austria a great power in 1477, when they inherited much of what is now the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Soon afterwards they inherited many more lands by their marriage policies. During the 16th century, the Habsburgs ruled over large parts of Europe. Charles V reigned over perhaps a quarter of the European population (not to speak of his enormous American colonial empire). The centuries afterwards Austria remained a great power until World War I, when the nationalistic thoughts in Europe finally divided the old empire into many small states.
It's important to put in mind that Austria has always been a "pa...

The Origins of the Habsburgs Explained
We all know of the Habsburgs as a mighty dynasty ruling over great kingdoms and empires, but rarely do we hear anything about where they came from, or how they originally rose to power. This is my attempt at telling their early history, from humble beginnings as counts, to eventually being chosen as kings of Germany.

Lessons From The Collapse Of The Habsburg Empire | Thomas Sowell
Identity politics has become a driving factor on the left, especially in the US. Politicians and Intellectuals are dividing the people based on various identities and pitting them against each other.
To see where this road could lead, Thomas Sowell explores the events that unfolded between Germans and Czechs in the 20th century. From the town of Budweis, Bohemia in the Habsburg Empire to the end of World War 2, the story of those two groups should warn Americans of the harms that identity politics can inflict on the fabric of a country.

Meet the House of Habsburg
This video is filled with simplifications and generalizations. It should be regarded as a brief introduction to the vast subject that is the history of the Habsburg dynasty.
The Habsburg dynasty is arguably the most influential of the european royal houses. Vast empires from the danube stretching even to the Americas, whole countries named after their figureheads, such as the Philippines, patronage of artists such as Diego Velázquez and Mozart, all of this are testaments of the mark left by the House of Habsburg on the modern history of our planet.
This video will cover (almost) the entire history of the Habsburgs as kings and emperors of Europe, from their rise as local nobles from Switzerland to their downfall in World War 1, in an oversimplified manner like a casual approach to this va...

The Habsburg family ruled central Europe since the early medieval times to World War I. To keep themselves in such high positions, the Habsburgs had to develop unique strategies to fight their political enemies. To keep the family pure, they often married within their family, which resulted in a very weak genetic pool and many mental and physical problems.

It's important to put in mind that Austria has always been a "part" of Germany until the 19th century. Indeed, the German Empire didn't exist until 1871, but the Germans (Austrians included) more or less realized they shared a similar language and culture, and the medieval Holy Roman Empire actually was for the most part a German state until it fell apart in the fatal 13th century. Since 1452, the Habsburgs were (with one short exception) the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire, which was by now virtually a very loose confederation of states. However, the position of the Holy Roman Emperor gave the Habsburgs privileges and some sort of loyalty from the German princes, although some monarchs—most notably the Prussian kings—openly contested Habsburg primacy. The Austrians were finally abandoned outside the German Empire in 1871.
Music:
Johann Strauss II - An der schönen blauen Donau (English title: The Blue Danube), composed in 1866.
Mistakes:
-The French province of Roussillon should be red from 1516 to 1556, on the eastern border with Spain.
-3:22 'Silicy' should be spelled as 'Sicily'.

👑The Monarchist Channel is exploring the history of monarchies as well as status of monarchism in the World today.
This is a pan-monarchist channel, which means it does not focus on one country or one royal family or one monarchial tradition alone but on the world-wide monarchist cause.
On this channel we will refrain from taking sides in major dynastic disputes, because the hope is to unite monarchists rather than divide them. In France, for example, the monarchist cause has long been bitterly divided between the supporters of the “Legitimists”, “Orleanists” and “Bonapartists”. We don't do that here.
I also invite non-monarchists for a healthy and open-minded debate.
Enjoy the channel and I look forward to speaking to you in the comment section!

This episode of Ten Minute History (like a documentary, only shorter) covers the birth, rise, stagnation and swift fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Beginning with the 1848 Revolutions through the 1867 compromise this episode will take a look at the political and social issues the empire had. It covers the reign of Ferdinand, Franz Joseph and Karl I (Charles I) and how the empire launched the First World War which would ultimately be its downfall. The episode finishes by cover the treaties which were signed after the war and carved up the empire into the nations of eastern and central Europe.
Ten Minute History is a series of short, ten minute animated narrative documentaries that are designed as revision refreshers or simple introductions to a topic. Please note that these are not meant to be comprehensive and there's a lot of stuff I couldn't fit into the episodes that I would have liked to. Thank you for watching, though, it's always appreciated.
Recommended books:
A Concise History of Austria - Steven Beller. A fantastic book which covers all of Austrian History whilst pointing out the relevant parts of Hungarian history, too.
The Last Years of Austria-Hungary - Mark Cornwall.

This video will cover (almost) the entire history of the Habsburgs as kings and emperors of Europe, from their rise as local nobles from Switzerland to their downfall in World War 1, in an oversimplified manner like a casual approach to this vast subject in an animated style.
I hope you enjoy it!
wow this video really took something of 6 months to complete sorry for the delay :)
